What is the one language that everyone on the earth can speak and understand, even without learning any words Music!
Long before writing was invented, people had already made music. They might have clapped their hands, tapped stones, or hummed using their voices to copy the sounds of nature, like birds singing or rivers flowing. These simple sounds were perhaps their way to express feelings, tell stories, or work together during activities. So, music is as old as humankind itself.
Today, music plays many important roles in our lives, and different types of music serve different purposes. For example, the strong beat of rock music can fill us with energy and excitement, while the soft sounds of classical music often help us relax and focus. Pop music, with its smooth tunes(曲调), is great for sharing fun moments with friends.Furthermore, music is a powerful tool for expressing our deepest feelings—joy, sadness, or hope—when words are not enough. It connects people across cultures and becomes a special part of our personal memories.
For middle school students, music can be a wonderful friend. Try different kinds of music, from folk songs to light instrumental pieces, and you might discover a new favorite. Second, use music wisely: play loud songs with a strong beat to feel energetic before a sports game, and choose calm music to help you pay full attention before studying. And remember that true enjoyment of music comes from not just listening, but also learning, singing along, and even creating. You will find that music is not just sound; it is a key to understanding yourself and the beautiful world around you.
B.根据短文内容,按要求回答问题。(共5小题;每小题2分,计10分)
Have you ever noticed that the same English word can be spelled or pronounced differently In fact, after English travelers arrived in America, the language slowly changed in both places over time, leading to different habits. They are like two tastes of the same delicious ice-cream!
The clearest differences are in spelling and vocabulary. For spelling, British English often keeps more traditional forms. For example, British“colour”,“centre”, and“travelled” become American“color”,“center”, and“traveled”. In vocabulary, everyday objects have different names. What the British call a“football”, Americans call a“soccer”. The British take a“lift” up to their“flat”, while Americans ride an“elevator” to their“apartment”.
Besides spelling and words, there are small differences in grammar. British people might say,“I'm ill in hospital” or“ At the weekend”, while Americans often say,“I'm ill in the hospital” and“ On the weekend”. Pronunciation also differs. For example, the“r” sound at the end of words like“car” is much stronger in most American English.
So, which one is better Neither! Both are correct and widely used. The key is not to mix them up. If you start writing in British spelling, stick with it. Understanding these differences helps you use English better in different situations, whether you're watching a Hollywood movie or reading a book by a British writer. It's all part of the fun of learning English!
