Christ’s Hospital, a school in the English countryside, catches people’s eyes. The students there don’t just “wear a uniform”. They wear history actually.
When you see the uniform for the first time, it feels like you’ve stepped onto the scene (场景) of a historical play. The uniform includes a long blue coat, a pair of trousers, yellow socks and white neck bands. The girls wear the same coat, but with a matching skirt. The uniform has remained unchanged for over 470 years, making it one of the oldest school uniforms in the world.
Why is the uniform blue and yellow Its history can date back to 1552, when it first opened its doors to poor children who lost their fathers in London. From the beginning, students were provided clothing through public charity — and the blue and yellow colors were chosen because the dyes (染料) were a little cheaper than the others at that time. If the uniform looks a little familiar, you’re not imagining things. The long coats, special colors and historic feeling give this school energy — like a real magic school. It’s the kind of place where you may expect someone to walk by casting a spell (念咒语).
Today, Christ’s Hospital is home to around 900 students, with the same numbers of boys and girls. The cost is around 36,000- 40,000 per year, but few families pay full price. It’s actually one of the UK’s most famous charity schools.

Regent honeyeaters are beautiful black and yellow birds in southeastern Australia. There used to be a large group of them, but now they’re dying out. The honeyeaters are imperilous because large areas of the forests where they live have been cut down. Scientists think there are only about 250 regent honeyeaters left in the wild.
Scientists may have found a best way to help the birds survive — by getting older birds to teach younger birds how to sing. This is because male (雄性) regent honeyeaters use this song to attract (吸引) mates. As there are so few of the birds left in the wild, some zoos in Australia have been raising regent honeyeaters in captivity (圈养). The goal is to release (释放) these birds into the wild after they can sing well.
But without hearing any adult male honeyeaters sing, young birds in captivity can only develop a very basic song that scientists describe as “strange”. Scientists know that young birds normally learn the song by listening to older males. The zoos had two older birds who had been born in the wild and knew the song. The scientists decided to try to use these birds as teachers. They put each of these birds, as a teacher, into an area with several younger birds. That worked well. After about three months, the younger birds began to sing the correct song. Now, over half of the male honeyeaters raised in zoos can sing the correct song.
Scientists hope that as they release more and more honeyeaters who know the right song...

There are warm ocean sea waters and beautiful views on the western coasts of Greece. But the area has a serious problem: many beaches are covered with plastic and fishing nets (网). The rubbish mainly comes from fish farms that people don’t use anymore. They are called “ghost (幽灵) farms” by Healthy Seas, a group that protects the ocean.
Ghost farms are not only ugly but also dangerous. Swimmers may get hurt by the waste, sea animals may be caught in the nets and local tourism may be influenced. What’s worse, it’s harder for fishermen to make a living.
In 2021, the group started a project called Operation Ghost Farms. The project aims to improve the local environment, help the local people and make more people know about environmental problems. This year, Healthy Seas spent eight days cleaning up the Greek island Ithaca, where a fish farm had been left unused for 10 years. Forty-five volunteers took part in this activity. They collected more than 167,000 pounds of rubbish, including nearly 84,000 pounds of plastic. So far, the Operation Ghost Farms has cleared away over 620,000 pounds of waste.
How does Healthy Seas organize cleanups First, it finds ghost farms. Then, the group leaders talk to local governments and get permission (允许) to do a cleanup. Then it asks volunteers to do the cleanup. They clear the rubbish and try to recycle what they have found.
