六、阅读理解
A
I am really enjoying my trip to the UK! Staying with Aunt Mary has been great fun. Yesterday, I learnt a lot about manners here.
It was Aunt Mary’s birthday yesterday so we went to a very famous restaurant in London. Aunt Mary told me to wear smart clothes and shoes, because the restaurant had a “dress code”. That means you can only eat there if you are wearing smart clothes! The restaurant is one of the most popular in London, so we had to queue for about ten minutes. British people do not mind standing in queues.
The menu was in French, not English! However, the waiter was very polite and friendly. He told me what the dishes were and helped me choose something. There were three different types of knives and forks to eat with. You must start with the knife and fork from the outside first. After the main course(主菜), we also enjoyed some dessert which is a kind of sweet food eaten at the end of a meal, such as pudding, ice-cream, pancake and so on. When we finished, we put the knife and fork next to each other in the middle of the plate.
The food was very delicious. After the meal, Uncle John paid for the meal and left the waiter a “tip”. This is some extra money for good service.
It was such a treat to visit such an expensive restaurant. I am very lucky! Manners here can be very different from those at home. However, I know that not every restaurant in the UK is like that. You may see people eating with hands in some fast food restaurants.
( )1.Why did Uncle John leave the waiter a “tip”
A. Because he was rich. B. Because the waiter was so poor.

Uncle Tom sang a song about angels and Heaven with Eva in the garden.
“Uncle Tom, sometimes I see those spirits,” said Eva. “They come to me in my sleep. I’m going there.” Eva pointed her finger to the sky and said, “To the bright spirits.”
Uncle Tom’s heart almost stopped. He looked at Eva. She didn’t look well she was often tired, her breath was short, she had a cough, and she was getting very thin.
Miss Ophelia noticed this too, and she tried to tell Eva’s father, St Clare.
“Stop that!” St Clare said. “Don’t you see that the child is only growing up It’s what happens to children of her age.”
“But she has that cough!”
“That’s nothing. Maybe she has a little cold,” St Clare said.
Eva’s health got even worse. She became very weak and she could hardly leave the house, so St Clare sent her to the hospital.
In a week or two, it seemed that Eva’s health improved greatly. St Clare was happy and he was sure Eva would get better. But Miss Ophelia was not so sure, and neither was Eva herself. One afternoon, when St Care called Eva to give her a present, “Papa, I am going to leave you soon.” said Eva, and she started crying.
“Oh, my dear!" said St Clare, "you’re just tired and a little weak because of the illness. You will be perfectly fine soon.”
“No, Papa” said Eva, “I won’t get better. I am not sad. I’m sorry for you, Papa, and my friends, but I want to go!”
“Why do you want to go Are you unhappy, Eva ”
“Oh, I feel sad for our slaves (奴隶): they are all good and kind to me. I wish, Papa they were all free.”
“Don’t you think we treat them well ” said St Clare.
“But what will happen to them if anything happens to you There are very few men like you, Papa. Some people buy the husbands but not the wives, some people buy the mothers and sell the children. What terrible things people do! Papa, isn’t there any way to make all slaves free ”
“Slavery is a very bad thing, but I don’t know what to do about it.” said St Clare. “Promise me that Uncle Tom will be free as soon as I’m asleep.” said Eva.

China is a nation of etiquette(礼仪)with a history of thousands of years. Chinese people are widely known as one of the most hospitable people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they will not only be served(招待)carefully but deeply moved by the warmth as guests.
When you step into a Chinese family, the host will first greet you warmly and quickly make a cup of tea-either jasmine(茉莉花)tea or mellow green tea, which is a traditional way to show respect. Then, a plate of snacks will be placed on the table, such as sweet candies, crispy biscuits and local specialties. There will always be family members chatting with you, asking about your journey or hobbies, to make sure you never feel left out.
Meanwhile, other family members will busy themselves in the kitchen preparing a feast. Chinese people believe that treating(招待) guests to a rich meal is the best way to express hospitality. They often cook far more dishes than the guests can eat, including meat, vegetables, soups and desserts. During the meal, the host will let the guests start eating first. What surprises Western guests most is that the host often picks food for them with serving chopsticks, a behavior full of care that rarely exists(存在)in Western dining culture.
Even after you finish eating and say you are full, the host will still say gently, “It seems you didn’t eat much. Please have a little more.” This kind of enthusiasm(热情)comes from the depths of Chinese culture. As Confucius said thousands of years ago: “It is a great pleasure to meet friends from far away.” This ancient wisdom has been passed down and has become an important part of Chinese tradition.

A. There are many kinds of snacks. B. Guests are the first to eat.
C. The host picks food for guests. D. There are many dishes on the table.
( )10. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The history of Chinese etiquette.

The Xiaoxitian scenic area (景区) in Xixian County Linfen City, Shanxi Province is one of the shooting locations of the popular game “Black Myth: Wukong”. The famous scene “Seeing the future, why not worship ” in the game is set here. In this scenic area, there are many extremely beautiful painted sculptures in the Mahavira Hall. These may have inspired the game’s scene design.
Recently, a new kind of mythology (神话) has been gaining popularity among young people, especially those who love video games and animation. It’s called “Black Myth: Wukong”. Wukong in the game is not the same as the Monkey King we know from the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. In this new version, Wukong has a darker, more mysterious personality. He still has powerful abilities, but he also faces many challenges. The story of Wukong takes place in a magical world full of strange creatures and exciting adventures. It combines traditional Chinese culture with modern elements. Many young people find this world fascinating and enjoy exploring it through video games, animations, and even comic books.
The Xiaoxitian scenic area is not very large. The core scenic spot, the Mahavira Hall, is only 169.6 square meters. But inside this hall, there are more than 1,900 painted sculptures of different sizes, ranging from the largest three meters tall to the smallest as small as a thumb. After nearly four hundred years, these sculptures are still intact (完好的) and look brand new.
It is known as the “Museum of Hanging Sculpture Art in China”. Its unique artistic value and connection with the popular game have made the Xiaoxitian scenic area attract a large number of tourists. During this year’s National Day holiday, the number of tourists to the Xiaoxitian scenic area has increased by 20 times compared to the same period last year.
