Wang Yongxian, who was born in 1950 in Taiyuan, the capital of north China’s Shanxi Province, is a Chinese expert in the restoration of ancient Chinese buildings. Since 1972, Wang has restored over 100 precious ancient buildings.
At the age of 22, Wang joined the Cultural Relics Working Committee of Shanxi Province, working on surveys and restoration of ancient buildings. For years, he roamed the wilderness, devoting himself to the preservation of temples and pagodas (佛塔).
At that time, many valuable historical buildings had suffered severe damage from natural elements, leaving them ruined and on the edge of collapse. Wang saw himself as a “firefighter” in the front line, racing against time to rescue these structures.
In his early 20s, Wang once dreamed of a more attractive city life and even considered changing his job. But witnessing the devotion and sacrifice of senior experts changed his mind. One day, while accompanying Chinese architectural historian Luo Zhewen to inspect the Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian County, Wang watched as Luo — despite being in his sixties — climbed shaky beams inside the tower without any safety railings. This commitment deeply moved him. “I must pass the mission of preserving ancient buildings to younger generations, turning our pioneers’ spirit into action.” Wang said.
Thanks to the painstaking efforts of Wang and his colleagues over the decades, an increasing number of ancient buildings across Shanxi, such as Foguang Temple, Chongfu Temple, Guandi Temple, Jinci Temple’s Shengmu Hall, and Xuankong Temple, have been revitalized and opened to the public.
After retiring from his job, Wang’s love for ancient architecture has not diminished a bit. He immersed himself in research, learned woodworking techniques, created models of Dougong, and published many monographs and papers. “I have had an inseparable bond with ancient buildings throughout my life. I feel deeply pleased to contribute a little to the conservation of ancient architectural culture.” Wang said.
24. Which of the following best describes Wang according to the first two paragraphs
A. A highly skilled craftsman. B. A knowledgeable architect.
C. A dedicated preservationist. D. A widely influential historian.
25. What does paragraph 3 indicate about the ancient building restoration
A. It is a slow and complex process. B. It has significant cultural impacts.
C. It needs great efforts and funding. D. It is extremely important and urgent.
26. How did Luo’s deed influence Wang
A. It pushed him to change his major. B. It started his love for ancient buildings.
C. It inspired him to stick to his work. D. It fueled his desire to become an architect.
27. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the passage
A. Challenges of Restoring Ancient Architecture
B. Lifelong Dedication to Restoring Ancient Buildings
C. The Path to Becoming an Architectural Preservationist
D. The Role of Senior Experts in Cultural Heritage Preservation

Israel was accused of using white phosphorus bombs (白磷弹), a banned bomb, in the Palestine-Israel conflict in October. However, the Israeli military later claimed in a statement that it didn’t use such a weapon, reported Reuters.
White phosphorus is a highly free-burning chemical that can create intense heat, light and smoke, reaching over 1,000℃ when burned. The flame it produces is difficult to put out, leading to deadly burns on the human body.
The chemical is also poisonous. Those coming into contact with it may suffer heart, kidney or bone damage. And bomb-hit areas are likely to be polluted by white phosphorus, resulting in long-term environmental damage.
The news sparked public concern about destructive weapons. International Humanitarian Law (IHL) bans any weapon “of a nature to cause overmuch injury or unnecessary suffering”. Such a weapon can cause indiscriminate harm, injuring or killing soldiers as well as civilians.
The Geneva Conventions (《日内瓦公约》) and their Additional Protocols, which form the core of International Humanitarian Law, have set requirements for all countries to follow about how wars are carried out. For example, the use, production, stockpiling (储备) and selling of biological and chemical weapons are forbidden.
Chemical weapons, such as mustard gas, are poisonous. They can cause temporary or permanent damage to people and have various effects, such as severe eye pain, breathing difficulty, and blisters (水疱) on the skin. Biological weapons, usually developed from viruses or bacteria, attack the human immune system, often with deadly consequences.
Other international conventions also have made relevant rules, which apply to the countries that have agreed to them. For example, according to the IHL database, any action expected to result in widespread, long-lasting destruction of the environment is prohibited.
“During the Vietnam War, the US military employed a highly effective defoliant (落叶剂) called Agent Orange.” Zhang Gaosheng, a researcher at China Institute of International Studies, told CCTV News. “This resulted in the destruction of about 20 percent of Vietnam’s forests, leading to significant damage to the ecosystem.” The usage of the chemical was subsequently banned, he added.
28. What is the primary concern regarding the use of white phosphorus bombs in wars
A. The intense heat and light produced.
B. The difficulty in putting out the flame.
C. The harm to people and the environment.
D. The damage to buildings and infrastructure.
29. What does paragraph 6 mainly talk about
A. The development of biochemical weapons.
B. The long-lasting impact of biochemical weapons.
C. The urgency of prohibiting biochemical weapons.
D. The consequences of using biochemical weapons.
30. What is Zhang Gaosheng’s attitude to the usage of the defoliant
A. Favorable. B. Opposed. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful.
31. What’s the purpose of the passage
A. To call on public not to use weapons.
B. To appeal for peace between Palestine and Israel.
C. To give the reasons why the use of some weapons is being stopped.
D. To introduce the chemical weapons used in the Israeli military.
D
Inspired by how ants move through narrow spaces, scientists have built a robot that can pass through narrow passages, climb over steps, and move on the grass and loose rock.
“Insects are really a decent inspiration for designing robot systems that can perform various movement behaviors,” says Nick Gravish, a roboticist at the University of California, San Diego. Ants adapt their gesture to crawl through tiny spaces so they won’t be disturbed by uneven earth or small obstacles. For example, their legs collapse a bit when they hit an object, and they continue to move forward quickly.
Gravish’s team’s robot is about 30 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters long with four wavy limbs (肢). Each limb is made up of six nested tubes that can draw into each other. What’s more, the limbs don’t need to be actively powered or adjusted to convert their overall length. Instead, springs play a crucial role because they allow the legs to become short when the robot passes through a narrow space and stretch back out in an open space.
The robot can modify the width and height of its body to attain a larger range of body sizes than other similar robots. The leg parts contract themselves to let the robot crawl through small tunnels and stretch out when the robot is under low ceilings. This adaptability lets the robot get into spaces as small as 72 percent of its full width and 68 percent of its full height. Next, the researchers plan to actively control the firmness of the springs that connect the leg parts to tune the motion to earth types without consuming too much power.
The researchers think that such small-scale, minimal robots are easy to produce and can be quickly adjusted to explore complex environments. However, the researchers think that these robots are, for now, too breakable for search-and-rescue, exploration or biological monitoring. The new robot takes a step closer to those goals, but getting there will take more time.
32. What inspired Gravish’s team to design the robot
A. Ants’ ability to do a variety of movements.
B. Ants’ ability to move on uneven earth freely.
C. Ants’ ability to remove different obstacles.
D. Ants’ ability to adapt their gestures in tiny spaces.
33. Which of the following determines the flexibility of the new robot
A. The springs on its legs. B. The tubes on its body.
C. Its short and wavy legs. D. Its small power capacity.
34. What does the underlined word “modify” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Expose. B. Expand. C. Challenge. D. Change.
35. What will the researchers probably do next
A. Perfect the function of the robot.
B. Find easier ways to produce the robot.
C. Look for inspiration from other insects.
D. Test the robot in more complex environment.

When life feels off course, it can be confusing and scary, but take a deep breath. 36 Here are several strategies that can help you handle uncertainty and get you back on track.
Do some self-reflection.
Sometimes life wanders off course. You know that you’ve lost your way, and you just don’t know how to find your footing again. Don’t worry. Start with a little self-reflection. It can help to assess your current situation. Think about what’s working and what isn’t. 37
See the big picture.
When life goes off the rails, you may try to rely on brainpower to fix it. Yet overthinking can trap you in a loop (循环), making it harder to solve the real issue. Instead, step away, and you’ll see the whole picture. 38 Once you know the “what”, the “how” becomes clearer.
39
Sometimes, you just need to get things off your chest. Sharing your struggles with someone who truly listens brings comfort and clarity. That compassionate space allows you to express everything, reframe your thoughts, and change your focus. Sometimes, all it takes is saying it aloud to see the way forward.
Be gentle with yourself.
Life is hard, but being hard on yourself only makes it worse. 40 So, be gentle with yourself. Growth takes time, especially outside your comfort zone. Just try to do the best you can. This mindset will help you recognize your efforts, develop patience, and accept personal growth, no matter the circumstances.
A. Talk to someone.
B. Set small, achievable goals.
C. That distance gives you insights.
D. You can regain control and find your way again.
E. Constant self-criticism can fuel depression and anxiety.
F. Review your successes and struggles to see your path forward.
G. Stepping back for a moment lets you identify what’s really bothering you.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Shawn Singleton, a traffic policeman in North Carolina, was sitting in the police car, keeping an eye on the road ahead. Suddenly, his radar (雷达) sounded an alarm: a car up ahead was going at 61 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone. He turned on the siren (警笛) and blue lights, and then pursued the car at a controlled distance.
The car signaled and slowly pulled over to the side of the road. Shawn stepped out of his car. He walked up to the driver’s window and tapped it gently. The window was rolled down quickly. A woman asked in a defensive and angry tone, “What did I do I didn’t do anything wrong!” Shawn explained in a calm voice, “Ma’am, my radar indicated you were speeding just now. Could you please show me your driver’s license and vehicle registration ”
“That’s impossible! I watched the speedometer (速度表) the whole time!” the woman raised her voice. Instead of arguing, Shawn waited patiently until she handed over her driver’s license. Shawn learned from her driver’s license that the woman’s name was Katelyn. He said gently, “Katelyn, I know you might be angry right now, but I have to give you a ticket for speeding according to the law.” Suddenly, Katelyn’s eyes turned red, and her voice shook, “Can’t I have a bad day ”
Shawn looked at Katelyn’s teary eyes and tightly pressed lips. He guessed something unpleasant must have happened to her. “Katelyn,” he asked, “it seems like you’re carrying something much heavier than a speeding ticket. Would you like to talk about it ”
Katelyn looked into his eyes — no longer the strict look of an officer, but filled with a quiet understanding. She explained that she owned a small family restaurant, a place she had poured her heart and savings into. But lately, it felt like everything was falling apart. Despite her best efforts, rising costs and slow seasons had driven customers away. Her dream was close to slipping away.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
After hearing Katelyn’s story, Shawn decided to issue a different kind of ticket. A few weeks later, Shawn found himself on the road where Katelyn’s restaurant was located.

第一节
One possible version:
Hello, everyone,
I firmly believe that AI can be a valuable tool for assisting with homework when it is used appropriately.
Firstly, AI can personalize the learning experience by tailoring practice problems to our needs, significantly boosting study efficiency. Secondly, when used responsibly, AI acts more like a research assistant than a shortcut. It can help organize ideas and suggest resources, while the critical thinking and analysis are still our responsibility.
In conclusion, AI is a powerful learning aid, but we must avoid over-relying on it. Let’s use technology wisely!
That’s all. Thank you.
第二节
One possible version:
After hearing Katelyn’s story, Shawn decided to issue a different kind of ticket. He chose a written warning rather than a fine. Handing Katelyn the paper, he explained that the warning would go on record without financial consequences. “Ma’am,” he said firmly, “don’t give up on your dream. Tough times never last, but tough people do.” Deeply touched, Katelyn searched through her purse and pulled out a business card. “Thank you for your kindness. Please come and try a meal on me someday,” she offered sincerely before driving away.
A few weeks later, Shawn found himself on the road where Katelyn’s restaurant was located. His mind kept drifting back to Katelyn and her struggles. He couldn’t help but wonder if her restaurant had managed to stay afloat. He decided to stop by. As he walked in, Katelyn greeted him with a warm smile. “I’m so glad you came!” she said. Her restaurant had turned a corner thanks to a loyal customer base she’d built, and Shawn was proud to see that Katelyn hadn’t given up. Over a meal, they shared stories and laughed, and Shawn knew that sometimes a little kindness could change everything.
