As the saying goes, “Without music, life would be a mistake.” Music is very important in our lives and here are four of the greatest musicians in history.
Ludwig van Beethoven(1770-1827)
Born in Bonn, Germany, Beethoven never held an official position in Vienna. He supported himself by giving concerts, teaching piano, and the sale of his compositions (作曲). Johann Sebastian Bach(1685-1750)

Franz Schubert(1797-1828)

When Jula’s dad passed away, he left her something special — his massive collection of nearly 10,000 vinyl records (黑胶唱片) packed with all kinds of music, from opera to rock to new wave. At first, it felt overwhelming, but one day, she decided to pick a few albums and give them a listen. A friend suggested she share her journey online, so she started posting videos of her reactions. To her surprise, her social media account quickly gained over 322,000 followers.
Jula’s dad, Richard, had loved music all his life. He played instruments, wrote songs, and started collecting records when he was just five years old. Growing up, Jula remembers their home always being filled with music — he would play the Monkeys, the Archies, and Frank Sinatra. When he passed away, his records became one of the few physical things Jula had left of him. She knew she couldn’t let them go.
Listening to these albums has been like rediscovering her dad’s world. She doesn’t research them beforehand — she just plays them and reacts. That’s how she found unexpected favorites like Mozart in the Seventies. Of course, there have been funny moments too, like when she mispronounced David Byrne from Talking Heads as David By-ron!
But her project is about more than just music. Many followers comment that her videos help them deal with their own sorrow, reminding them of loved ones they’ve lost. Others love sharing their memories, like buying a Lou Reed album when it first came out or listening to the Cars in high school.
Through this journey, Jula has learned to appreciate physical music. Holding a record, seeing the scratches her dad made, and knowing they listened to the same sounds makes her feel closer to him. She wonders, “What will future generations have to remember us by Just a streaming (流媒体) library ”
For Jula, these records are more than just music. They’re pieces of her dad’s life — and now, a part of hers too.
4. Why did Jula decide to start sharing videos of reactions online
A. To fulfill her father’s last wish. B. To sell the records and make a profit.
C. To follow her friend’s suggestion. D. To compete with other music influencers.
5. What is unique about Jula’s approach to listening to the albums
A. She listens selectively. B. She listens without advance knowledge.
C. She plays them in her dad’s sequence. D. She researches each album in detail.
6. How do followers feel after watching Jula’s videos
A. Touched. B. Sorrowful. C. Curious. D. Confused.
7. What does Jula learn from this experience
A. Streaming preserves memories better. B. Physical records convey precious memories.
C. Future generations prefer online collections. D. Digital records are more about interpersonal things.

Who do you think is the next big, rising star in the world of music Well, AI seems to be causing quite a stir!
Yes, that’s right! Artificial Intelligence (AI) — computer software that allows machines to think and learn in a human way — is writing music, and the results are amazing!
AI does this by analyzing huge amounts of musical data, using existing samples, styles and types and can learn to create something completely new. There are lots of different AI Music software out there, including Boomy, Beatoven. ai and AIVA.
AI music has been spreading online with users creating songs that contain cloned voices of artists such as Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Kendrick Lamar.
An online creator named “ghostwriter” made the song Heart on My Sleeve, featuring the cloned voices of singers Drake and the Weeknd without their permission. It managed to get 15 million TikTok views, before Universal Music Group successfully asked for it to be taken down.
Is AI music legal There are still no clear laws surrounding the creation of AI music. Whether AI music can be legally protected is still under debate. However, some musicians are happy to embrace AI and want to use it to improve their music.
DJ David Guetta told the BBC that he is “sure the future of music is in AI... but as a tool”. Sting, an English singer, believes that “there’s going to be a battle we all have to fight in the next couple of years, defending our human capital against AI”. He urged artists to be careful, saying “the tools are useful, but we have to drive them”.
Singer Grimes seems enthusiastic about the introduction of AI music, with Rolling Stone reporting that she said people should “feel free to use her voice” and that she’ll “share 50 percent profits on any successful AI created song that uses her voice”.
8. How does AI create music
A. By copying existing songs.
B. By working with musicians together.
C. By learning from human emotions and feelings.
D. By basing the new music on existing musical data.
9. Why was Heart on My Sleeve taken down
A. Because it was not good enough.
B. Because it was too expensive to produce.
C. Because it was illegal to use AI in music production.
D. Because it used popular artists’ voice without their authority.
10. What does the underlined word “embrace” in paragraph 6 probably mean
A. Challenge. B. Change. C. Accept. D. Stop
11. What is Singer Grimes’ attitude towards AI music
A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Curious. D. Unclear.

If you’ve watched the movie KPop Demon Hunters and saw the word “golden”, you may start hearing a fragment (片段) of the tune repeating in your head, over and over. You might even mouth or sing the words “we’re goin’up, up, up”. If so, you have just experienced “involuntary musical imagery”, known as an earworm (耳虫).
The humble earworm has taught music psychologists that repeated fragments of music are recycled from the same mental storage location. In Golden, the music accompanying the words “we’re goin’ up, up, up” is repeated several times. The most catchy feature is “continuous” repetition: a fragment of the music that repeats immediately and without delay, like the repeating chorus of a pop song. Baby Shark and many other songs contain such repetition, and have gone through periods of mass exposure — another important part for earworms because it increases familiarity.
Earworms are more likely to start when a particular set of brain regions is activated, called the default mode network (默认模式网络) . The network is related to daydreaming and mind- wandering, allowing repetitive thoughts to surface more easily. When it comes to song recall, this network is like a naughty teenager who picks their favourite part of the song and spends all night in their room listening to it, over and over again.
The brain parts that control focused attention and know how many times to play the song part and what comes next are kept out of the default mode network. When a song has strong repetition, that becomes the network’s focus. The instructions for mentally replaying the song become more similar to “when you reach the end of the fragment, go back and play it again”, with the “correct” number of repetitions and the other parts of the song nowhere to be seen. The mind is freewheeling, circling around the repeated fragment with no reason to stop.
Some researchers have found people enjoy their earworms, but there are also reports of song fragments being stuck in people’s heads for hours and even days. What if you’ve just had enough of Golden
12. Which of the following is a sign of earworms
A. Daydreaming in class. B. Loud noise in a musical.
C. Music remaining in the ear. D. Song performances in public.
13. What is another key feature of earworms besides repetition
A. Widespread contact. B. Emotional response. C. Fast speed. D. Long length.
14. What do we know about “the default mode network”
A. It works with focused attention. B. It keeps focused attention working.
C. It isn’t controlled by focused attention. D. It leads focused attention not to repeat.
15. What will the next part talk about
A. Why hard to stop earworms. B. The history of earworm research.
C. How to create songs with earworms. D. Practical ways to get rid of earworms.

Xi’an, located in Shaanxi Province, is famous for its rich history dating back thousands of years. One of its most iconic attractions is the Terracotta Army, a vast collection of terracotta sculptures describing the army of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Additionally, you can explore the ancient city walls, which are among the best-preserved in China, and visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a symbol of Xi’an’s Buddhist heritage.
