An ocean is a very large sea. Oceans cover about 71% of the earth’s surface. Then there’s the desert. Deserts are very dry. They are often very hot during the day, but cold at night. A forest is an area with lots of trees. Forests help make our air clean. A mountain is usually very high and covered with rocks and earth. At the Top, it’s often cold. A river is an area of moving water. Rivers carry water from high ground down to lakes or the sea. Finally, a plain, the land is open and flat. Plains cover more than 1/3 of the world’s land area.
