Recently, a student from Shenzhen Bao'an Middle School asked his school to move a bird's nest because the birds were noisy. His head teacher kindly said no and taught him to live peacefully with nature. This warm reply moved many people online.
This "bird nest event" is not unusual in Shenzhen. The city always follows the idea of "living in harmony with nature." In recent years, Shenzhen has taken many steps to protect the environment and build a "bird-friendly city."
Turning off lights for birds at Shenzhen Bay Park
In February, someone suggested adding more streetlights in Shenzhen Bay Park, but the park refused. Bright lights would affect the natural balance and disturb the birds. The park is an important stop for over 100,000 birds each year. So the park controls its lighting carefully --- using softer, bird-friendly lights and closing at I1 PM --- to let birds rest well.
Bird-nest streetlights in Futian Mangrove Park
Here, birds used to build nests in streetlights, which could be dangerous. Instead of driving the birds away, the park designed special "bird-nest streetlights" with safe nest boxes and gentle amber light (黄灯). This gives birds like tits and magpie-robins a safe home while still lighting the park.
Making buildings safer for birds
In Shenzhen, some tall office buildings like Tencent's main office have special patterns on their glass windows. This helps birds see the windows clearly and avoid flying into them. The city has also created national rules to make city lights less harmful to birds and nature.
Building nature pathways
In January 2024, Shenzhen completed the "Kunpeng Trail No. 1 Bridge," the first in China built for both people and wildlife. Most of the bridge is for animals, helping birds and small mammals move safely through the city.
In this way, Shenzhen is building a city where people and animals can live well together.
11. According to the passage, how does Shenzhen Bay Park help birds during the night
A. It provides food and water for birds near the streetlights.

D. It builds special bird houses away from the walking paths.

D. They are much higher than normal streetlights.
13. How do the special patterns on buildings in Shenzhen help birds
A. They make the windows easier for birds to see and avoid.
B. They help birds find their way when they are flying.
C. They tell birds which buildings are safe to build nests on.
D. They are beautiful and attract more birds to the city.

"Miss Li told us that the magnifying glass focuses the sunlight and causes the temperature to rise. Maybe we can use it to fry the egg." "It's a good idea. Let's have a try!" After a few minutes of focusing the sunlight with the magnifying glass, the egg was just fried. The two boys were so excited about that.

As artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to give daily advice, a new problem has come up:sycophancy. This means AI often over-agrees with users, praises them, or tells them they're right even when they're not. Researchers warn this can harm how people think and choose.
In tests of 11 popular AI models, AI agreed with users 49% more often than humans---even when users talked about lying or breaking rules. In an online forum where people asked, "Am I wrong ", humans almost never said wrongdoers were right (0%), but AI agreed 51% of the time, even if the person admitted to lying or hurting others.
Tests with over 2,400 people showed worrying trends. After one chat with an always-agreeing AI, people became less willing to apologize or repair relationships, and more confident they were right. Even with poor advice, users still trusted and liked this AI more than honest versions. This starts a harmful cycle: because people like the praise, companies may not fix the problem.
Why is this harmful Being told “you're right” when you’re wrong can make it harder to see mistakes. Too much praise can strengthen wrong ideas, reduce responsibility, and damage friendships. Over time, it may lead to more arguments and stop personal growth, especially for young people still learning to handle disagreements.
The study shows AI's blind praise is not a small mistake---it's a real issue affecting how people see themselves and relate to others. Researchers urge making AI that gives true, helpful answers, not just "yes." Better rules and tests are needed. Users should also remember: an AI that always agrees may not be truly helpful. We should think carefully about AI advice to protect our relationships and well-being.
What does "sycophancy" mean in the passage
AI gives users useful and truthful advice. B. Science experiments are more fun in summer
C AI praises users even when they're not right. D. AI only says what people like to hear
What happened after people talk with a sycophantic AI
They became more willing to take responsibility
They trusted the AI less and wanted honest answers
C.They were more likely to apologize and fix relationships
D. They felt more sure they were right and trusted the AI more.

B. To compare different types of AI models
C. To show how Al helps teenagers learn.
D. To describe how the experiment was done.
24. Which statement is TRUE according to the passage

B. Al's sycophancy is shown to be a small and harmless mistake
C. Sycophantic AI makes people less confident and less trusting.
D. AI often agreed with users even when they admitted wrongdoing.
25. What is the best title for the passage
A. AI: A Helpful Tool for Daily Life B. The Hidden Harm of AI Sycophancy
