If you’re looking for new headphones (头戴式耳机) and want to try something different, House of Marley could be a good choice for you. As a company created by the Marley family to carry on Bob Marley’s love for both music and the planet, the company creates attractive and timeless products that are good for the earth. Today we tried out a new type of over-car headphone which you could get with high quality at a really fair price.
Battery
Offering 32 hours of playback with noise canceling turned off, and 26 hours turned on, the headphones will get you through several days of listening to good music without charging (充电) the batteries. You can use them longer if you put them on airplane mode. And the quick-charge technology will allow you to enjoy a two-hour playback after just 15 minutes of charging.
Sound
The most important thing here is the sound. It has a lot of sound quality for you to choose from, with clear sound that will sound great on a classical track. You can also design the sound to your liking on the app.
Material
Made of wood and reusable aluminum (铝), the headphones weigh quite a bit but it’s not to say that they’re uncomfortable. The special ear pads (衬垫) fit around the ears closely, and the underside of the headband also has lots of soft pads so you can’t feel uncomfortable even afterhours of listening. Costs: RRP 199.
If over-ear headphones aren’t your thing, you can’t go wrong with our other excellent products.

22.What is special about the new type of headphone
A.It has long battery life.
B.It works best in airplane mode.
C.It can be fully charged in 15 minutes.
D.It can recognize environmental noise easily.

People have been trying to create glowing (发光) plants for decades. The challenge is making the glow bright enough for our eyes to see. Last year, US biotech company Light Bio launched the Firefly Petunia, the first genetically engineered glowing plant to go on sale. It claims that the plant’s brightness is “similar to moonlight,” but judging from photos on social media, it’s nowhere near as bright as a full moon.
There is a reason why this is so difficult. Plants get their energy from light, but photosynthesis (光合作用) is wildly inefficient. It’s estimated that most plants capture less than 2 percent of the light that falls on them, and they need part of it to survive and grow. That leaves precious little to transform back into light.
Given this fact, plants will never glow bright enough to take the place of streetlights. To solve this, a few groups have instead been trying to physically add phosphors (磷光体), a type of light-storing material that glows in the dark, to adult plants, which are much more efficient than photosynthesis. The problem is getting the phosphor chemicals evenly distributed inside the leaves. But now it’s found that such distribution is easily achieved in certain plants, so brightly phosphorescent plants of various colors are created by adding phosphors into each leaf by hand.
However, making plants glow by physically adding phosphors into them is considered “cheating.” At the very least, the glow will become weaker if these plants survive and grow larger. There is also a potential environmental concern when the plants die and are thrown out.
If the plants were genetically engineered to make their own long-lasting phosphors that are fully biodegradable, it would be a different story. In fact, giving plants this ability might even boost the efficiency of photosynthesis. Being able to temporarily “store” light could help keep the light steady, transform unusable wavelengths into usable ones, and allow photosynthesis to continue into the night. One day, perhaps entire fields will glow in the dark.
24.What makes it hard for plants to glow brightly
A.The low light-use efficiency of photosynthesis.
B.Plants need most captured light to survive and grow.
C.Photosynthesis transforms only part of sunlight into usable energy.
D.Plants’ leaves cannot store enough light.
25.How do some groups improve the brightness of the plants
A.By adding phosphors into the leaves.
B.By using adult plants that are more efficient than seedlings.
C.By manually adjusting light conditions.
D.By distributing chemicals evenly inside the leaves.
26.What can we learn about phosphorescent plants from the passage
A.They need careful light management.
B.Their glow fade over time.
C.They can cause environmental pollution.
D.They are less bright than expected.
27.What’s the function of the last paragraph
A.To discuss the difficulties of making plants glow.
B.To explore potential future applications of glowing plants.
C.To explain current experiments with glowing plants.
D.To highlight environmental concerns of glowing plants.
A broader phenomenon swept over the developed Western world in the early 2010s. Rates of depression, anxiety and self-harm rose sharply. Why
In the summer of 2022, Jonathan Haidt was working on a book project about how smartphones and social media rewired society in the 2010s. He quickly realized that the impact of social media on kids could not be explained in one chapter — it needed a book of its own. Hence, The Anxious Generation is Volume 1, in a sense, of the larger project.
Haidt begins The Anxious Generation by examining adolescent mental health trends. What happened to young people in the early 2010s that caused the rise of anxiety and depression around 2012 He offers an explanation by telling two stories: the decline of play-based childhood and the rise of phone-based childhood. He shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s. He presents more than a dozen mechanisms by which this “great rewiring of childhood” has affected children’s social and brain development, covering everything from lack of sleep to divided attention, addiction, loneliness, social comparison, and perfectionism.
Most important, Haidt issues a clear call to action. He explains how parents, school, governments, tech companies, and young people are trapped in “collective action problems”, and then proposes four simple rules that might set us free: giving children far more time for outdoor play with mixed-age groups; involving them in stable real-world communities rather than online networks; delaying smartphones and restricting social media access until at least high school.
He emphasizes that change is possible if society acts together. We cannot afford to ignore his findings about protecting our children — and ourselves — from the psychological damage of a phone-based life.
28.Why did Jonathan Haidt decide to write The Anxious Generation
A.To expand his original project.
B.To address an issue worth fuller study.
C.To explore how smartphones reshape society.
D.To replace his previous research with a new focus.
29.What does the underlined words “great rewiring ” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.The lack of outdoor play.
B.The popularity of social media.
C.The increase of mental illness.
D.The switch from play to phones.
30.What does Haidt emphasize as essential for protecting children
A.Stabilizing social networks.
B.Banning smartphones before college.
C.Relying mainly on individual parents.
D.Making joint efforts across social groups.
31.Where is the text probably taken from
A.A biography of a famous writer.
B.A book review in a literary magazine.
C.An introduction to a social science book.
D.A psychology research paper in a journal.
We were promised a future of easy living, where our homes would know what we need before we ask. The refrigerator would order milk before it ran out, the temperature control would learn our preferred setting, and we would control it all with a simple voice command. This is the attractive promise of the smart home, a central part of our imagined high-tech future. But for many people who tried it first, the reality has been less like a science fiction dream and more like a stress test.
The idea is exciting: connected sensors creating an energy-saving, safe, and perfectly responsive environment. In theory, your home becomes an intelligent being, learning your daily habits and likes. You come home, and the lights gently turn on to show a path to the kitchen, where your favorite music is already playing. The main idea is to use technology to make life simpler, to make it smooth and natural.
However, the current reality is often broken into pieces and frustrating. Consumers find themselves dealing with a messy collection of devices that don’t work well together. To complete a simple task automatically, one might need to use three different apps: one for the lights, one for the locks, and another for the music. This complexity creates a digital wall, turning a promised convenience into a boring task. This problem has been called the “fake intelligence” of smart homes. A refrigerator with a big touchscreen might look impressive, but its main job is still keeping food cold. When that screen is used to make shopping lists or look at the internet, but the door seal breaks after a year, the “smart” feature becomes a useless, and often costly, extra.
The basic problem lies in a lack of common rules across the industry. Devices from different makers often refuse to talk to each other, creating a situation where nothing connects in our living rooms. The dream of a truly connected, intelligent home remains just out of reach, stopped by compatibility (n. 兼容性) issues and a focus on fancy features over real problem-solving. The question is no longer just “Can we make it smart ” but “How do we make it work together smoothly, reliably, and simply ” Until that question is answered, the smart home risks remaining a collection of clever, but ultimately separate, gadgets, rather than the natural, life-improving companion we were promised.
32.The underlined word “stress test” in Paragraph 1 probably means _________.
A.A scientific experiment on smart home devices.
B.A situation testing one’s patience and causes frustration.
C.A training program for learning to use new technology.
D.A medical check-up designed for people who are stressed.
33.What is the “exciting idea” of smart homes
A.Homes will become larger and more expensive.
B.Homes will no longer need electricity to function.
C.Homes will be controlled by robots instead of humans.
D.Homes will use smart sensors to learn habits and respond.
34.Why does the author mention the example of using three different apps
A.To show smart homes are convenient.
B.To prove smart devices lack flexibility.
C.To explain smart home setup procedures.
D.To illustrate the complexity of current smart homes.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A.Smart Homes: The Gap Between Promise and Reality
B.Smart Home: The Reality Check
C.Smart Refrigerators: A Guide for Buyers
D.Smart Homes: A Dream Come True
Life doesn’t always seem fair. Some people are just born with the ability to attract anyone they meet easily. Well, it might seem like a magical power, but actually there are various factors at work. 36 The answer is: to a large extent, yes you can.
But first, the bad news. People initially judge each other based purely on physical appearance. With just a glimpse of a face, people make snap judgments about each other’s likeability, trustworthiness and confidence. How should we deal with this 37 People perceive a smiling face as more trustworthy, warmer and sociable. It sounds like common sense, doesn’t it Smile and others will smile with you.
What other tricks might we have 38 Consequently, three things we can do to signal that we are not a threat: raise our eyebrows quickly, tilt (仰起) our heads slightly, and once again, to smile.
So we’ve looked at body language, but of course what you say is hugely important too, unless you want to just stand there grinning foolishly. The golden rule of friendship is if you make people feel good about themselves, they’re going to like you. In other words, you should not talk about yourself and all your wonderful achievements. 39
Finally, finding common ground is good to form a connection. Charming people are very skilled at seeking out shared interests or experiences to bond with others. Simple things like asking where someone’s from really can open up a discussion and allow you to find areas in common. And if all else fails, you can fall back on that most British of topics: the weather. 40
A.It can break the ice.
B.What effective strategies can we employ to become charming
C.There’s one incredibly basic tool: your smile.
D.Alternatively, you need to display interest in them.
E.So, can you develop exceptional charm
F.Mutual interests are the foundation for building connections with others.
G.Our brains frequently scan the surroundings for signs of friend or enemy.

It was 1 a.m. on Christmas morning, but for Marisa Shumaker, it was still Christmas Eve. Like so many other parents, she had holiday magic to make.
For weeks, her 4-year-old daughter, Aubree, had been asking for one thing only for Christmas: a “real piano keyboard”, not just some small one made for little kids. Now that Aubree was asleep, Shumaker pulled the box from its hiding spot in their home in Bel Air, Maryland, ready to unveil the 61-key keyboard with full-size keys — perfect for beginners like Aubree. Shumaker figured she’d assemble the stand and bench, and set it all up so it would be ready to play when Aubree woke up and discovered her surprise. But when she opened the box, only the stand and bench were inside. No keyboard.
Panic overtook her as she realized what she hadn’t noticed before: The keyboard was sold separately.
The night before, mother and daughter had watched the movie The Santa Clause. At one point, two of the main characters talk about the gifts they desperately wanted when they were kids but never received, which made them doubt the existence of Santa.
“That scene immediately played in my mind,” says Shumaker. She recalled how happy she was as a little girl, about Aubree’s age, when she got her first guitar as a gift. What would Aubree think when she came downstairs and found only a bench and stand — no keyboard
There must be some way to fix this, she thought. Maybe an online retailer could deliver a keyboard by morning. Maybe she could creep out to a store, if one was still open. She looked into both options, but no luck. Now desperate, Shumaker posted in a neighborhood Facebook group: “I’m about to cry,” she wrote, explaining the situation.
Andy Spencer, who lives 5 miles from Shumaker, was crawling into bed just before 2 a.m. when he saw her plea. He thought of the keyboard his wife had gotten for her daughter, Hailey, two years earlier. They still had it, and honestly, Hailey had hardly ever played it.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
Spencer got out of bed and headed down the hall to see whether Hailey was awake.

The two messaged back and forth, agreeing to meet at a grocery store across the street from Shumaker’s home.

M: We collected 18 kilos of paper last week, not bad.
W: Better, but the goal was 25. Let’s place a collection box outside the lecture hall.
M: Smart. I’ll make a poster that says “One Sheet Helps”.
2.A
M: Have you read the latest economic report predicting slower global trade
W: Yes, but its projections are too pessimistic. Emerging market data is missing.
M: I agree. It ignores new growth sectors in those markets.
W: Precisely. A more careful analysis is needed.
3.B
W: Why did you change your major to biology It’s quite challenging with all the experiments.
M: I want to be a doctor, and biology is important for that career, so it’s worth the effort.
4.C
W: In China, when newborn babies celebrate their first birthday, objects are placed around them and left for them to grab.
M: I know it’s an important tradition. The items chosen are supposed to give some indication as to the child’s future.
5.C
M: They may be proud of their new equipment, but I’m disappointed. Their nurses aren’t friendly, and everything seems to be running behind schedule.
W: Not to mention it’s noisy because no one observes visiting hours.

M: Remember that interview I had last month
W: Yeah, for that fantastic job with the great benefits
M: Yeah, well, they offered me the job, but I’ve decided not to take it at last.
W: Why not It’s a great chance.
M: Well, it’s a good job, but I’d have a lot of responsibility. I’d be very busy and stressed out. The job I have now is good. It gets busy sometimes, but I still have time to relax and hang out with my friends. I have a comfortable lifestyle. I don’t want to give that up.
W: I see your point. Who wants to be stressed out all the time

W: You got a job offer from that big company in the city. That’s great news.
M: Yeah, but I’m not sure if I should take it. The location is far from my home. It would take me at least an hour to drive there.
W: But the salary is good and it’s a great opportunity for your career. You could ask for a few more days to think about it. You don’t have to decide right away.
M: That’s true, but I don’t want to spend so much time on the road. It’s hard to maintain a normal work life balance.
W: I understand. Maybe you can go to the office first to see if it might be worth doing.
M: Good idea.

W: Good morning! Ready for another day at school
M: Not really! I was up late last night finishing my book report. I’m glad you’re here. Now, I don’t need to worry about missing our stop while sleeping here.
W: Ha-ha! Here. Check the news with me. That will keep you awake.
M: On Weibo No thanks. I prefer the old-fashioned TV news.
W: Really Why
M: I just think it’s more balanced. It’s all too easy to get into an “information cocoon” online.
W: A “cocoon”. Isn’t that the little home a bug makes when it’s turning into a butterfly
M: Exactly. Social media programs present you with information they think you’ll like. In terms of the news, that means you won’t often see stories that disagree with what you already believe.
W: Right, I see. And that’s why it’s called a “cocoon”, because it’s like hiding yourself away in a soft, comfortable place.
M: Exactly!
W: I see. That’s a good point!

W: Well, although there are various choices, I definitely say YouTube. It has great content. I like to read news on it. It provides me with the latest news from all over the world.
M: You kidding I cannot stand YouTube. There are advertisements all the time. It really ruins the experience for me.
W: I agree with you. That is the only problem with it, especially when an advertisement appears between what you are watching. It is annoying. However, it can recommend what you like according to your browsing history. That’s my favorite feature. What is your favorite then
M: I prefer Vimeo for videos. For music, I use Beatport a lot. It specializes in electronic music. It is updated fast, but there is one thing that I think can be improved.
W: In what way
M: Well, you can’t hear a full song on the website. I’d like that to change.
W: That’s a good point. Maybe you should try to contact them.
M: I guess so.

根据第一段中“As a company created by the Marley family to carry on Bob Marley’s love for both music and the planet, the company creates attractive and timeless products that are good for the earth.”(作为一家由Marley家族创建的公司,为了延续Bob Marley对音乐和这个星球的热爱,该公司创造了吸引人且永恒的产品,这些产品对地球有益。)
根据第二段中“Offering 32 hours of playback with noise canceling turned off, and 26 hours turned on, the headphones will get you through several days of listening to good music without charging the batteries.”(在关闭降噪功能的情况下,这款耳机可以提供32小时的播放时间,而在开启降噪功能的情况下,可以提供26小时的播放时间。 故选A项。
根据最后一段中“The special ear pads (衬垫) fit around the ears closely, and the underside of the headband also has lots of soft pads so you can’t feel uncomfortable even after hours of listening.”(特殊的耳垫紧密贴合耳朵,头带的下方也有很多软垫,所以即使听了好几个小时,你也不会感到不舒服。)

根据第二段中的“Plants get their energy from light, but photosynthesis (光合作用) is wildly inefficient. It’s estimated that most plants capture less than 2 percent of the light that falls on them, and they need part of it to survive and grow. That leaves precious little to transform back into light.(植物的能量来源于光,但光合作用的效率极低。据估计,大多数植物只能吸收照射在它们身上的光能的不到2%,它们需要其中的一部分来生存和生长。这就使得能够重新转化为光能的量少之又少。)”可知,植物难以发出明亮光芒的原因是光合作用效率极低,植物捕获光能少,并且需要将部分捕获的光能用于自身的生存和生长,导致没有足够的能量用于发光。
25.细节理解题。根据第三段中“To solve this, a few groups have instead been trying to physically add phosphors (磷光体), a type of light-storing material that glows in the dark, to adult plants, which are much more efficient than photosynthesis.(为了解决这个问题,一些研究小组转而尝试在成熟植物上直接添加磷光体,这是一种能在黑暗中发光的储光材料,磷光体比光合作用更为高效。)”
根据第四段中“At the very least, the glow will become weaker if these plants survive and grow larger.(至少,如果这些植物存活下来并长得更大,发光会变得更弱。)” 原文只是说“There is also a potential environmental concern(存在潜在的环境担忧)”,并没有确定会造成环境污染,C项的表述太绝对。
根据最后一段中“If the plants were genetically engineered to make their own long-lasting phosphors that are fully biodegradable, it would be a different story. In fact, giving plants this ability might even boost the efficiency of photosynthesis.

根据第二段“He quickly realized that the impact of social media on kids could not be explained in one chapter — it needed a book of its own. Hence, The Anxious Generation is Volume 1, in a sense, of the larger project.(他很快意识到,社交媒体对孩子的影响无法在一章中解释清楚——它需要一本书来阐述。因此,从某种意义上说,《焦虑的一代》是这个大项目的第一卷)”可知,Jonathan Haidt决定写《焦虑的一代》是为了解决一个值得更深入研究的问题。
29.词句猜测题。根据第三段“He shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.(他展示了“以玩耍为基础的童年”在20世纪80年代开始衰落,以及在21世纪10年代初被“以手机为基础的童年”的到来所取代的过程)”可知,“great rewiring”指的是从玩耍到手机的转变。
根据最后一段“He emphasizes that change is possible if society acts together.(他强调,如果社会共同努力,改变是可能的)”可知,Haidt强调跨社会群体共同努力对于保护儿童至关重要。

根据第一段中“This is the attractive promise of the smart home, a central part of our imagined high-tech future. But for many people who tried it first, the reality has been less like a science fiction dream and more like a…(这就是智能家居所具有的诱人魅力,也是我们所设想的高科技未来的重要组成部分。但对于许多率先尝试这一技术的人来说,实际情况却远不如科幻小说中的梦想般美好,更像是一次……。)”可知,第一段通过转折词“But”将智能家居的“科幻般美好承诺”与“现实”形成对比,第三段进一步明确指出当前智能家居的现实是“broken into pieces and frustrating(支离破碎且令人沮丧)”。因此“stress test”在这里指考验人的耐心、带来挫败感的状况。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The idea is exciting: connected sensors creating an energy-saving, safe, and perfectly responsive environment. In theory, your home becomes an intelligent being, learning your daily habits and likes.( 这个想法令人兴奋:联网传感器构建一个节能、安全且反应灵敏的环境。理论上,你的家会成为一个智能体,了解你的日常习惯和喜好。)”可知,智能家居令人兴奋的核心理念是通过联网传感器打造智能环境,学习用户的日常习惯并自动做出响应。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“To complete a simple task automatically, one might need to use three different apps: one for the lights, one for the locks, and another for the music. This complexity creates a digital wall, turning a promised convenience into a boring task.( 要自动完成一项简单的任务,可能需要使用三个不同的应用程序:一个用于控制灯光,一个用于控制门锁,还有一个用于播放音乐。这种复杂性形成了一个数字屏障,将原本承诺的便利性变成了枯燥的任务。)”可推知,作者举“完成一个简单任务需要三个不同 app”的例子,是为了具体说明当前智能家居设备互不兼容、操作繁琐的复杂性问题。
35.主旨大意题。通读全文可知,开篇提出智能家居的美好承诺;中间详细对比了理想中的智能体验与现实中设备不兼容、功能华而不实的问题;结尾指出行业缺乏统一标准是核心矛盾。A选项Smart Homes: The Gap Between Promise and Reality“智能家居:愿景与现实之间的差距”精准概括了文章“承诺与现实存在巨大差距”的核心主旨,适合作为文章的标题。

36.下文“The answer is: to a large extent, yes you can.( 答案是:在很大程度上,是的,你可以做到。)” E选项“So, can you develop exceptional charm ( 那么,你能培养出非凡的魅力吗?)”
37.上文“With just a glimpse of a face, people make snap judgments about each other’s likeability, trustworthiness and confidence. How should we deal with this ( 仅仅看一眼一张脸,人们就会对彼此的亲和力、可信度和自信程度做出快速判断。我们该如何应对这种情况呢?)”提出问题“我们该如何应对人们仅凭外貌做判断的情况?”,下文“People perceive a smiling face as more trustworthy, warmer and sociable.( 人们会认为带着微笑的脸更值得信赖、更亲切、更善于交际。)” C 选项“There’s one incredibly basic tool: your smile.( 有一个极其基础的工具:你的微笑。)”
38.下文“Consequently, three things we can do to signal that we are not a threat.(因此,我们可以做三件事来表明我们不是威胁。)”出现了因果连词“Consequently(因此)”,说明空格处是后文内容的原因。G选项“Our brains frequently scan the surroundings for signs of friend or enemy.( 我们的大脑会频繁地在周围环境中寻找友人或敌人的迹象。)”
39.上文“In other words, you should not talk about yourself and all your wonderful achievements.( 换句话说,你不应该谈论自己以及你所有的辉煌成就。)” D 选项“Alternatively, you need to display interest in them.( 或者,你需要表现出对他们的兴趣。)”
40.上文“And if all else fails, you can fall back on that most British of topics: the weather.( 如果其他方法都不奏效,你还可以依靠那个最具英式特色的话题:天气。)” A选项“It can break the ice.(它能打破僵局。)” 故选A项。

故填What。
故填has exploded。

It’s well-known to us that the electric bike is becoming more and more popular, but at the same time a lot of problems appear with it.
Many people support electric bikes because they are energy-saving and eco-friendly. Besides, they are economical, convenient and efficient for daily travel. However, other people hold different ideas. They think that the electric bike is dangerous. Many people ride them too fast and don’t follow the traffic rules, leading to terrible accidents sometimes.
As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter opinion. Although the electric bike is fast and convenient, it’s not safe, especially for us senior students.

Spencer got out of bed and headed down the hall to see whether Hailey was awake. Seeing the soft glow beneath her door, he gently knocked, his heart pounding with both concern and hope. Hailey was not only awake — she listened with growing excitement as he explained Shumaker’s desperate situation. Hardly had Spencer finished his story when Hailey agreed to give her almost new keyboard, whose 61 full-size keys would fit perfectly on Aubree’s stand. With her enthusiastic consent, Spencer quickly composed a message. Fingers trembling with anticipation, he wrote, “Where do you live We have a smaller keyboard that we could part with.” Reading the message, Shumaker couldn’t believe how quickly her luck had turned.
The two messaged back and forth, agreeing to meet at a grocery store across the street from Shumaker’s home. Within minutes, the Spencers arrived in the parking lot with the keyboard carefully wrapped and Hailey’s face glowing with anticipation. For Shumaker, relief and gratitude shone in her eyes when she saw the keyboard. Never had she expected that strangers would respond so swiftly and generously. With the instrument gently loaded into Shumaker’s car, a sense of warmth settled over everyone. All the Spencers wanted was a simple photo of a happy Aubree on Christmas morning. And when Christmas finally broke, Aubree’s delighted laughter filled the room as she discovered the surprise, her joy shining brighter than the Christmas tree itself.
