A new social media trend (潮流 ) — known as “Becoming Chinese” — is drawing the
attention of TikTok users around the world.
This cultural exchange has led to a wave of people trying out many kinds of Chinese
lifestyles online. These lifestyles often include everyday Chinese self-care habits, such as drinking
warm water instead of cold drinks; wearing slippers (拖鞋 ) indoor instead of walking barefoot;
eating cooked vegetables rather than raw salad greens; and practising baduanjin slow exercise
loved by older people.
The reasons lie in the call for a healthier life from young people and the rising charm of
China on the global stage.
The Global Times noted that the wisdom behind Chinese lifestyles helps people deal with
burnout. For example, these cultures stress getting close to nature and keeping a balance between
yin and yang. The “Becoming Chinese” trend shows that in a fast-changing world, Chinese
lifestyles can bring order, inclusiveness (包容) and calm inside.
“Many young people abroad hold a favorable view of China,” said CCTV. This shows
China's growing soft power. It means foreigners are changing their minds, from viewing Chinese
culture from afar to taking part in it.
US tech magazine Wired saw this trend as part of a bigger story. Chinese technology and
products have been important in Western life for a long period of time, from Chinese phones and
open-source AI models to cultural icons like Labubu. The trend is a natural result of this influence.

One day in autumn Squire Gordon went on a long journey. John went with him and I pulled
the cart (马车). The weather was rainy and windy, cold raindrops getting my thin coat wet and
strong wind making a noise past my ears, but we travelled happily until we came to the old
wooden bridge.
The man at the tollgate (收费处) told us the river was rising fast. “There is going to be a bad
storm tonight,” he said.
We arrived in the town, but Squire Gordon's business took a long time. We didn't leave until
late afternoon. The wind was blowing, making a terrible sound, moving through the tree tops and
sending dead leaves flying all around us.
Suddenly we heard a crack (爆裂声 ), and a huge tree fell across the road in front of us. I
stopped still. I was shaking with fear, but I did not turn round or run away.
“We must go back to the crossroad,” said John, “and drive six miles to the wooden bridge.”
When we got there it was nearly dark. There was water on the middle of the bridge, but the
Squire did not stop. As soon as my feet touched the bridge I knew that something was wrong. I
stopped dead. “Go on, Beauty,” said the Squire.
“There's something wrong, sir,” said John. He got out and tried to lead me forward. “Come
on, Beauty,” he said. But I knew that the bridge was not safe.
Just then the man saw us. “Hey there! Stop!” he cried.
“What is it ” shouted the Squire.
“The bridge is broken in the middle,” he answered. “If you go on to it, you are all going to
drown in the river.”
“Thank God!” said the Squire. “Thank you, Beauty!” said John. We turned around and went
along the road by the river. For a long time no one said anything. Then John said, “Black Beauty
saved our lives. He knew that the bridge was dangerous.” When we returned home, the Squire told
Mrs Gordon, “We are all safe, thanks to Black Beauty!”
That night I had good food to eat and a comfortable straw (稻草) bed. I was happy because I
was very tired. —Adapted from Black Beauty

He Hua Shen was one of the most eye-catching programs at the 2026 CCTV Spring Festival
Gala. It had twelve performers, each standing for a goddess (神) of one month's flower. The show
came from the old Chinese custom of the twelve flower goddesses.
The program is special in many ways. The designers made beautiful costumes in old Chinese
styles with special patterns. For example, Li Qin played the Goddess of osmanthus (桂花 ) in a
nice Song-style dress. Qin Lan was the Goddess of Peach Blossoms and looked lovely.
Besides beautiful looks, the program also had strong cultural meanings. Each flower stands
for good values. Chrysanthemum (菊花) means purity, and lotus (荷花) stands for honesty and
beauty. The show told these cultural stories in a lively way.
Modern technology played an important role, too. Modern AI and 3D effects made the stage
look like a real garden. The great visual experience made it popular with people of all ages,
especially the young.
