Social workers’ roles in helping individuals and communities have become
necessary. Many disadvantaged individuals and communities need their support. They are
highly valued. The following are some of them.
School social workers
These social workers create strategies to help students’ academic performance and
social development with teachers and parents. They help students with issues such as
bullying (欺凌). School social workers also talk with families to solve absences (缺席)
from class or access to special education resources. While school social workers and
guidance advisers share some similarities, they have some differences. School social
workers focus more on a student’s personal life.
Child and family social workers
These social workers help families protect children. They support families in
finding housing and childcare services and help apply for benefits. When children are
badly treated, they will bring them to a better living situation. Some work to reunite
separated families or organize adoptions (收养).
Health care social workers
These social workers help patients understand the causes of their illnesses and
adjust their lifestyles. They also help doctors understand how illnesses affect their
patients’ mental and emotional health. Social work with the elderly, long-term pain
3
management and medical social work are a few of the strengths of health care social
workers.
Mental health and substance abuse social workers
These social workers help patients who have mental illnesses or addictions. They
educate the patients on how to deal with their condition. Typically, those specializing in
mental health and substance abuse social work are officially clinical (临床的 ) social
workers, allowing them to judge and provide treatment for their patients.
21.What do school social workers do
A.Offer more education chances.

Running has always been my way to just breathe. It used to be that when I ran, my
body sped forward, but my mind found a rare stillness, making me feel strong, grounded,
clear- headed and free.
That changed during the third year of my undergraduate when I was deeply hurt by
someone I trusted — someone I considered a friend. Almost overnight, I withdrew from
the social person I once was. I felt I needed to find a way to deal with it on my own.
Running late at nights and in early mornings became my shelter from that bad memory. I
was searching for a cure in the ache of my muscles and the burn of my lungs. I ran faster
and harder, thinking that maybe if I abused my body, the pain would go away. I pushed
distances and limits I had never tried before. That fall, I signed up for a full marathon.
I remember the moment my right knee gave out 4 months into my training. A sharp
4
pain hit. I collapsed and cried, releasing tears I had held back for months. I could no
longer put pressure on my right knee. Gradually, as I recovered, I started running again.
To my surprise, I felt a shift, subtle (不易察觉的) at first. My runs, once fuelled by pain,
became quieter. The road didn’t demand as much from me. A small, barely heard voice
inside me said, “Enough.” I no longer needed to run for the hurt. I had learned to live with
it, and to carry the pain without letting it consume or define me.
I switched to running a half marathon to allow my body to recover and began
running alongside friends and joining women’s running groups. When I crossed the finish
line, it wasn’t a release but rather a recognition of the strength I had always carried.
Unstopping. I felt like myself again. It taught me to pause, to ask myself what I run for,
and to learn to be kind to the body that carries me every step of the way.
24.What made the author avoid socializing
A.The harm from a friend. B.The search for freedom.
C.The pursuit of a clear mind. D.The need for running.
25.Why did the author run faster and harder
A.To fight for a marathon.
B.To train her muscles.
C.To unlock her potential.
D.To ease her pain.
26.Finally, how did the author feel after her knee’s injury
A.Excited. B.Relieved. C.Challenged. D.Disappointed.
27.What can we learn from the passage
A.Love is a verb. Act it out.
B.Think twice before you move.
C.You hold the seed of your rebirth.
D.Success is built on focus, not fear.

Recently, the Stanford University’s Human-Centered AI Institute (HAI) released the
2026 AI Index Report, which is known as the “annual physical examination” of the AI
field. The 423-page report shows a complex picture of AI development: its ability is
5
exploding, but social governance and ethical (伦理的)frameworks are far behind.
According to the report, AI is promoting its popularization. In 2025, more than 90%
of cutting-edge(前沿的) AI models came from enterprises rather than academic circles.
These models have reached or even surpassed human levels in doctoral-level scientific
questions, multimodal(多模态的) reasoning and math competitions. Generative AI has
achieved a 53% usage rate in three years, which is faster than the popularization of
personal computers and the Internet.
The report also points out that there is almost no gap between China and the United
States in AI model performance. Since the beginning of 2025, the top AI models of the
two countries have taken turns leading the world. By March 2026, the top AI models in
the United States were only 2.7% ahead. However, the United States is still ahead in the
number of top AI models and high-quality patents, while China leads in the number of
AI-related papers, citations(引用) and total patents.
Despite its rapid development, AI also faces many challenges. AI has an obvious
“jagged frontier (锯齿状前沿): it performs well in complex tasks but fails in simple
ones. For example, Google’s Gemini Deep Think model can win gold medals in
international math Olympiads, but the accuracy rate of top models in reading analog (模
拟的) clocks is only 50.1%. In addition, AI safety accidents rose from 233 in 2024 to 362
in 2025, and the environmental cost of AI cannot be ignored.
The 2026 AI Index Report reminds us that while AI is running wild, we need to keep
up with its pace in governance and ethics to make it better serve humanity.
28. What do we know about the 2026 AI Index Report’s position in the AI field
A. It guides people to understand AI ethics.
B. It is a yearly check of AI development.
C. It mainly reports AI safety accidents.
D. It only compares AI between China and the US.
29. What can we infer from Paragraph 2
A. Most cutting-edge AI models came from academic circles in 2025.
B. Generative AI is less popular than personal computers.
C. AI models have reached human levels in some fields.
D. AI development has slowed down in recent years.
6
30. What is the author’s attitude towards AI development
A. Fully supportive.
B. Strongly critical.
C. Objective and cautious.
D. Completely unconcerned.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A. The 2026 AI Index Report: AI’s Development and Challenges
B. The Gap Between China and the US in AI
C. The Advantages of Generative AI
D. How to Solve AI Safety Problems
D
It’s a widely-held belief that kids with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (多动
症 ), ADHD for short, will have a hard time finding jobs later on in life. ADHD is
commonly diagnosed during childhood. It’s best known that kids with ADHD have a hard
time concentrating on a single task or object for long periods of time, and that they can’t
“sit still”. However, that is a pretty narrow view on the disorder.
A new study from the University of Michigan found that adults with ADHD
actually have a unique advantage when doing creative tasks. White and her team worked
with a group of college students, with and without ADHD, and tested them in lab
challenges of creativity. Participants had to compete in an “alien fruit” invention task,
where they were asked to create an example of a fruit that is different from a fruit known
to exist on Earth.
Non-ADHD participants tended to model their creations after specific common
fruits, such as apples or strawberries. These creations were less innovative (创新的) than
those of the second group. This group of participants with ADHD created fruits that
differed more from typical fruits, and were more original. They seemed like rarer fruits.
Overall, the results suggest that people with ADHD rely less on previous knowledge or
examples when dealing with a task.
There are many kids with ADHD in our schools and communities, and it’s up to us
to make things better for them. However, nowadays ADHD is still increasingly and
expensively treated with drugs. Many studies indicate that spending time in nature gives
7
great benefits to ADHD children. We must remember that children with ADHD actually
have very good attention spans—but only for tasks they find interesting. Telling them
what they should do isn’t very effective, and most things we do are simply boring to
them.
32. What do people commonly believe about kids with ADHD according to Paragraph 1
A. They are unable to find a job in adulthood.
B. They can only be diagnosed in childhood.
C. They lack the ability to focus on something.
D. They are more likely to behave aggressively.
33.What was the aim of the “alien fruit” task
A. To test learning speed.
B. To compare creativity.
C. To study teamwork skills.
D. To check rule-following.
34.What is the difference between the two groups
A. Non ADHD creations were more popular.
B. ADHD works were more original.
C. Non ADHD spent more time on task.
D. ADHD fruits followed real examples.
35.What does the author suggest we do to help kids with ADHD
A. Rely more on drug treatment.
B. Offer them nature-based activities.
C. Focus on their personal interests.
D. Set strict rules for them.

The Psychology of Habit Formation
Habits play a crucial role in shaping our daily lives. From the moment we wake up to
the time we go to bed, many of our actions are driven by routines we barely think about.
___36___Psychologists, however, have spent decades studying how habits form and how
8
we can use this knowledge to create positive changes in our lives.
Psychologists have identified a universal pattern in habit creation known as the habit
cycle, comprising three phases: a cue, a repeated behavior, and a reward. Take, for
instance, someone who automatically reaches for snacks when bored (cue), eats cookies
(repeated behavior), and experiences instant comfort (reward).___37___
Another important factor in habit formation is the environment. Studies show that
people who perform a new behavior at the same time and place each day are more likely
to turn it into a habit.___38___ “Rather than relying on the willpower, which comes and
goes, successful habit change depends on designing an environment that encourages the
behavior,” explains Dr. Lisa Carter, a behavioral psychologist.
___39___Many people believe it takes exactly 21 days to form a habit, but research
suggests that the time varies widely depending on the complexity of the behavior and the
individual’s personality. Some simple habits can form in a few weeks, while others may
take several months. The key is persistence and patience.
If you’re looking to change your habits, start small and build gradually. Set clear
cues, establish a routine, and ensure there is a reward to reinforce the
behavior.___40___By applying psychological principles, you can take control of your
habits and shape a healthier, more productive life.
A. This repeating process gradually strengthens the habit, making it automatic.
B. Yet few of us stop to consider how these habits are formed.
C. Such repetition demands lots of mental effort to keep.
D. Without a stable environment, new habits are unlikely to stick.
E. One common question about habits is how long they take to form.
F. Many people mistakenly believe that willpower alone is enough.
G. Small, regular actions are more effective than sudden big changes.

My Friendship with Zoe
My deskmate Zoe and I have been good friends since the very first day of high
school. We shared everything, from snacks to secrets, and I always thought our friendship
would never change. But last week, our close bond hit an unexpected wall. I spent a
whole week carefully making a handmade birthday card for her, drawing cute little
patterns and writing down all our sweet memories together, hoping it would surprise her.
However, on her birthday, my excitement turned to disappointment. When I gave her
the card, she just glanced at it quickly and put it aside without a second look. Then she
turned to other classmates, chatting excitedly about the fancy pen her cousin had sent her,
which made me feel completely ignored. My heart felt broken, and I thought she didn’t
care about my sincere gift or our friendship at all. So I stopped talking to her for days,
even though she tried to start a conversation with me several times.
Yesterday, I had to stay after school to clean the classroom alone because all my
group members left early. It was getting dark, and I was still wiping the blackboard when
the classroom door opened. It was Zoe, holding a small bag in her hand. She said nothing,
just walked over and helped me clean the desks quietly. I was surprised and still a little
angry, so I didn’t thank her. After we finished, she handed me the bag and apologized
softly. I stared at the bag, my anger slowly fading, not knowing what to say.

Spring Break Trips for Students
Since the spring break was introduced for students in compulsory education,
traveling during this break has become a popular trend. More students choose to go
out with their families, either enjoying natural scenery or visiting cultural and
educational sites.
Several reasons account for this trend. Firstly, the spring break offers students a
good chance to relax from heavy schoolwork. Secondly, parents regard such trips as a
great way to broaden children’s horizons and enrich their life experiences. Besides,
the pleasant spring weather is quite suitable for outdoor activities.
Personally, this trend will continue. In the future, more educational and
family-friendly travel styles will be preferred, making spring break trips more
meaningful for students’ growth.

Paragraph 1
I hesitated for a moment and then took the bag from her hand. Inside the bag
was a carefully folded handmade gift, which was a photo frame with our picture
together. She lowered her head and said in a low voice that she didn’t mean to ignore
my birthday card. She told me that day she was too shy to express her true feelings in
front of so many classmates, and she always valued the card I made with my heart.
She had been wanting to say sorry to me these days but didn’t know how to start.
Paragraph 2
After hearing her words, all my anger disappeared at once. I felt deeply
ashamed of myself for being angry with her without asking the reason. I looked into
her eyes and said sorry sincerely, telling her I should have tried to understand her
instead of keeping silent. We smiled at each other and made a promise that we would
talk about our feelings bravely whenever we had misunderstandings. This small
incident made us realize that true friendship needed more understanding and
communication between each other.
