Sitting on the edge of the world, Sydney is considered as one of the world's greatest cities. Here are some
things you should do and see in Sydney.
1. Explore Sydney's hottest neighborhood
Many big-ticket attractions can be found in or around the Circular Quay area, right by the port. Here, you can

The Hunter Valley, just a two-hour drive north of Sydney, is Australia's oldest wine region. Most vineyards
(葡萄园) are family-owned, focusing on small production. Wine is more personal here.

Langham Hotel has the largest art gathering (more than $1 million worth) in Australia.
Meanwhile, those seeking a more relaxed experience can go camping on Cockatoo Island-just a quick boat
ride from Circular Quay.

I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip
with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost
in the sightseeing that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. In the next morning, we all got out of bed
very early and got to the seaside at 3 o’clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be
when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so
we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but
the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.
Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was
really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the
morning darkness is also one memory I cannot wipe from my mind forever.
Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strong-willed determination,
but what about the result after that It might turn out to be pleasing, unbelievable and satisfying. So, it is really
worthwhile to wait for the best.

The first thing we notice about new people are their faces. The next time we see these people, we remember
them because we remember their faces. This seems like a simple process. However, scientists found that it is not
such a simple process. The section of the brain that is responsible for face recognition seems to work differently for
different people. Some people have great difficulty remembering and recognizing faces, while others almost never
forget a face.
Normal babies are born with a natural ability to recognize faces. In fact, their face recognition abilities are
much better than their parents. Babies are highly skilled at face recognition at six months. But by nine months, they
lose this skill, By nine months, a baby’s face-recognition skills are about the same as an adult’s.
Unfortunately, some people are not born with this ability to recognize faces. The part of the brain that is
responsible for face recognition doesn’t work for them. This condition is called face blindness. People with very
severe face blindness cannot even recognize their own faces. In fact, people with this condition can sometimes be
frightened when they look in the mirror. They don’t recognize their own face, so for a second they are startled
when they see this unfamiliar face.
Face blindness is not always severe. Scientists believe up to 10 percent of the population may be affected by
face blindness to some degree yet many people with mild face blindness might not even know they have it. They
have no reason to know they are different from anyone else until someone points it out. This is similar to people
with color blindness.
Colorblind people can’t see the difference between certain colors such as red and green, until someone tells
them that green and red are two different colors.
There is no cure for face blindness. So for the time being. people with face blindness need to find simple
techniques to compensate for their problem. They can try to recognize people by their hairstyle, their voice, or their
glasses. Hopefully, in the future as scientists learn more about this condition, they will find a cure.
28. The first paragraph is mainly about ____________.
A. the way to improve one’s face-recognition skills
B. the fact that some people have face-recognition problems
C. the simple process of the brain to recognize others’ faces
D. the importance of face recognition in human communication
29. When do people have the keen skills of face-recognition
A. At birth. B. In adolescence.
C. Half a year old. D. Nine months old.
30. The bold word “startled” in the 3rd paragraph is closes in meaning to _______________.
A. confused B. surprised
C. excited D. depressed
31. What does the author think of the problem of face blindness
A. People need to take it seriously. B. It affects a great number of people.
C. It can be cured in the near future. D. Certain techniques can make up for it.

Water is a necessity of life. Rain, especially, helps plants grow and stay green. But too much rain, especially in
cities, can lead to flooding. That can cause waste water systems to overflow and send pollutants into rivers and
other waterways. To fight the problem, several cities in the United States are starting programs like rooftop gardens.
A team at the University of the District of Columbia in the nation's capital has created a garden on the top
of one school building. The garden holds many kinds of plants to help absorb rainwater and grow food at the same
time. Architect David Bell has designed five "green roofs" for the university. He says he is excited about the project
because "it meant doing something more than just dealing with storm water management. It took advantage of a
resource above the city and these flat roofs that aren't doing anything really became something that was about urban
agriculture. " Rainwater is collected in large containers and sent through a system that waters the rooftop garden.
The roof is filled with green life that appeals to insects.
In cities “you don't have that many spaces to choose from and so rooftops are just (unused) space," says
Caitlin Arlotta. She is a student in the school's Urban Agriculture program. The project is part of a research
program to see which plants do well on rooftops. The researchers are looking at plants including strawberries,
tomatoes and sweet potatoes. The university also has other green spaces. "We also have our own farm
experiments," Arlotta said. “ Within each of those growing systems, we want to be able to tell people which sorts
of these crops grow the best. "
Sandy Farber Bandier helps run UDC's Master Gardener program. It seeks to improve cities and make them
beautiful by training people to become Master Gardeners. She says she's been surprised by the garden's output. ”
My biggest surprise was that we produced 4, 250 pounds of produce the first year and was able to spread that to
people in need. " She also likes being able to show people who live in D. C. and others beyond the nation's capital
what and how food can be grown on a rooftop. “This is the future for food. You grow it here, you prepare it in a
commercial kitchen, you distribute through farmers markets, food trucks, and then you recycle. "
32. What do we know about the rooftop gardens
A. Rooftop gardens are very common in average neighborhoods.
B. There are many sorts of plants there which help take in rainwater.
C. They're playing an important role in the city's food supply.
D. Rooftop gardens are no more than containers to collect rainwater.
33. What can we infer from Paragraph 3
A. Rooftops can offer enough space to plant crops.
B. Many plants like strawberries can grow well on rooftops.
C. Some univercity students are participating in the Urban Agriculture program.
D. The plants in rooftop gardens are attractive to many insects.
34. How does Sandy Farber Bandier feel about the future of rooftop gardens
A. Confident. B. Doubtful.
C. Worried. D. Ambiguous.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Rainwater Necessity for Plant Life
B. Green Roofs-The Future of Urban Agriculture
C. The United States' Agriculture Program
D. Rooftop Gardens-Food Paradise
