To discuss climate change
To learn to identify the style of this text and infer the writer’s purpose
To learn to draw a diagram
To think about how we can do to deal with climate change
Lead-in
1. What can you see in the picture
2.What is the cause of this phenomenon
A large piece of ice is breaking off a large glacier or ice sheet.
Global warming
The rising temperature of the Earth is the primary reason glaciers have started to melt more, and this climate change can be directly tied back to human activity.
What other consequences may global warming bring about
Global warming
melting ice
drought
flood
dying animals
Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed. — Mohandas K. Gandhi
地球能满足人类的需要,但满足不了人类的贪婪。

3. Match the main idea with each part.
Part 1:
(para.1-2 )
Part 2:
(para. 3)
Part 3:
(para. 4)
Part 4:
(para. 5)
The evidence(证据) of dramatic climate change that had an impact on Earth’s ecology
The causes(原因) of the increase in the global average surface temperature
The consequences(结果) of the rise in temperature
The solutions(解决方法) to reducing greenhouse gas emissions
4. Glance at the title, the graph and the picture and then answer the following questions.
1. What do you guess made the polar bear dead
2. What do you think we should do to help solve the problem
Earth becomes warmer, and ice melts, making it hard for it to find enough food to eat.
We should reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
5. Read the third paragraph carefully and fill in the table.
Green-house effect (1)_________ greenhouse effect Referring to heat from the sun warming Earth’s surface as (2)___________ radiation and released back at (3)_______ wave lengths Making Earth (4)__________ life
(5)___________ greenhouse effect Burning (6)_____________ Causing Earth’s surface temperature (7)_________ quickly

6. Read the fourth paragraph carefully and answer the questions.
1. What are the consequences of the global temperature rise
2. Why did the author mention the climate scientists’ warning
The rise in the temperature
led to
results
examples
Because global warming needs everyone’s attention and it is essential that we take appropriate actions.
extreme weather & natural disasters
serious damage, costing human lives
extreme rainstorms, heatwaves
7. What are the solutions to the environmental problems
P5 Continued greenhouse gas emissions will result in further warming and long-lasting changes to the global climate. This requires the attention of people all over the world. Governments need to consider making policies and taking appropriate actions and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We as individuals can also reduce our “carbon footprint” by restricting the amount of carbon dioxide our lifestyles produce. It is our responsibility to seize every opportunity to educate everyone about global warming, along with its causes and impacts, because this is the most serious issue affecting all of us on this planet. So what will you do to help

B. The climate was hot, drying it to be skin and bones.
C. It appeared to have starved to death.
D. Earth’s ecology was worse and worse.
