When I was a kid, my two brothers and I would stay with Grandparents for a week during summer vacation. We always looked forward to spending every moment with them, especially Grandpa, the “hero” in our eyes.
Grandpa became blind when he was 20 years old, but it never slowed down the strong-willed (坚强的) man. He worked in a shop every day. Customers would give him money, and he would return the right change and give them exactly what they wanted. He had many friends who visited the shop just to talk to him, and at that time, I helped to hand customers their drinks and snacks. This made me feel grown-up.
He also cooked lunch and washed dishes while Grandma worked. As a boy, I would watch him move around the house from room to room as if he could see. I was so surprised about how he moved from cooking to washing the dishes, never making a mistake.
It seemed like every time I stayed with him, we would visit someone in the evening who was weak or very sick. Although he can’t see things, he never let it stop him from working and being kind to others. His love for people never ended.
During those weeks, he taught me many lessons that I still treasure today. They take me back to those days and remind me how special he was. I miss every moment I stayed with him. To this day, I still dislike hearing someone say, “I can’t do that,” because I knew a blind man who never said those words.
24. Which of the following best describes Grandpa?
A. Active but shy.
B. Strong-willed and caring.
C. Kind but strict.
D. Warm-hearted and humorous.
25. What does the underlined phrase “those days” in the last paragraph refer to?

A. Family is important.
B. We should work hard.
C. Anything is possible.
D. We should help the blind.
27. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A storybook. B. A film review.
C. A guidebook. D. A science magazine.
C
Every morning, a big riverside school in the forest of Borneo comes to life. The caretakers and teachers in the school are from a specialized team, and the students there are orangutans (猩猩) whose parents have gone missing, making it one of the most unusual schools in the world.
The orangutans aged from 2 to 8 years old are divided into five groups according to their skills. They are looked after by the team who feed the babies and teach the older ones to start feeding themselves. There are often problems in the beginning. For example, there was a lesson about how to break open a coconut to drink the milk inside. Several young orangutans couldn’t do that and they got very angry about the whole thing.
Of course, as in any social group, the orangutans have to learn to get on with each other. There are the usual arguments over food when one orangutan doesn’t get what he or she wants. However, with the care of the trainers, they gradually learn to accept each other.
In one of the lessons, the trainers teach young orangutans to climb trees. This is an important skill they need to learn. Some of the orangutans in particular were really scared. It took them a long time to get the courage to climb up and swing from a branch (树枝), but when they finally did it, they were so satisfied with themselves!
The goal of the “education system” is to train the orangutans to be able to live in the wild again and look after themselves. They won’t have to stay at school forever. After the older orangutans are set free into the forest, there is no more connection with the people from the school. They now have to live as wild orangutans again and be accepted by the other orangutans who are already there.
The day when they say goodbye is a difficult one. However the trainers are happy that their job is done. They have successfully taught young orangutans how to live in the wild again—where they belong.
28. Where is the orangutan school?
A. In a forest. B. By a lake.
C. In a zoo. D. In a laboratory.
29. How did the young orangutans feel after learning to climb trees?
A. Surprised. B. Relaxed.
C. Tired. D. Happy.
30. Why is the “education system” set up for orangutans?
A. To offer them an easy life.
B. To train them to be independent.
C. To free them from the past.
D. To keep them away from humans.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Special Forest Team.
B. Wildlife Schools in the World.
C. A School with a Difference.
D. Courses for Smart Orangutans.
D
Construction (建筑) is one of the biggest users of energy and one of the biggest polluters. According to AI Magazine, construction is responsible for using 38% of world energy. The building part alone takes up almost 55% of final energy use and 33% of greenhouse gases. It’s also well known that steel produces too much material waste in building construction.
Because of this big challenge, the future of sustainable (可持续的) construction may lie with AI. AI is able to study building efficiency (效率) performance by grouping data to find the best chances for sustainable material usage. With a tool like AI, the future of sustainable construction could progress much faster than in the past. Besides, AI helps architects (建筑师) work with new tools and sustainable materials to create our better buildings and cities of the future. For example, construction 3D printing guided by AI can offer better choices for building materials to save money, and map out how construction materials could be recycled.
In a professional article, AI is praised as a tool for sustainable construction, “In recent years, AI has become a promising tool for construction. AI can examine a large number of data sets on weather conditions and help to make full use of building systems for energy efficiency, water protection and other goals.”
AI can be used to speed up the future of sustainable construction to set standards for the industry, and make construction more efficient and affordable. Like any other computer, AI is a tool that is particularly good at studying data sets, but for the moment it still requires smart and ethical (有道德的) human beings to lead its work. All of that has to be done with respect for humans, so it’s really up to us to make it work.
32. How is paragraph 1 developed?
A. By listing numbers.
B. By telling stories.
C. By expressing feelings.
D. By making comparisons.
33. How can AI help architects?
A. Produce sustainable steel.
B. Draw maps of dream cities.
C. Invent recyclable 3D printers.
D. Choose sustainable materials.
34. Which best explains the underlined word “promising” in paragraph 3?
A. Facing challenges.
B. Needing improving.
C. Taking years to grow.
D. Having a bright future.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. AI recycles construction wastes.
B. AI may take the place of architects.
C. AI helps sustainable construction.
D. AI speeds sustainable development.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
“What do you think I should do?” asks your friend, as she sits beside you, waiting for your advice. This is no easy situation. Say something your friend disagrees with or something helpless, and you might feel you’ve disappointed her.
It’s human nature to want to offer solutions when someone comes to you with a problem. It’s also easy to fall into the trap of simply saying that “Everything will be OK”. ____36____ But we often say that because we believe we need to say something. This is because we’re glad that our friend has come to us for help, even if we don’t really think we’re able to give it. ____37____ The answer is yes...if it’s done in the right way.
In fact, friends often really only want someone to listen to them. It’s important to try to work out whether they’re actually asking for advice, or simply wanting to talk over whatever is going round in their head. ____38____ There’s no harm in asking whether they’d like you to give suggestions.
It’s also important to be honest. If you’re unable to think of a way to solve your friends’ problem, just say so. Your friends won’t feel upset, and you can still listen carefully and try to put yourself in their shoes. ____39____ You can ask yourself “What would I do if I were to experience the same thing?” Later you can go back to your friends with a few helpful suggestions.
____40____ It can be hard to listen to your friends going over and over the same thing without being able to help them. They will certainly be thankful if you just allow them to “talk it out”, though. Maybe they’re building up courage to take action, and need to convince (说服) themselves they’re doing the right thing. Just being there for them may be all you have to do to make things better.
A. Friendship is the most important to us.
B. This is not actually useful for your friend.
C. So is it a good idea to try to give advice at all?
D. You can find someone else to ask for their ideas.
E. Sometimes a problem doesn’t go away overnight.
F. Talking may make people feel better all by themselves.
G. Then you can go away and try to think of something helpful.

Li Yue was a hardworking but quite shy student. She loved English and had always been at the top of her class in written exams, but speaking in front of others was her greatest fear. This year, to her own surprise, she had made it to the final of the school’s English speech competition. The topic was “The Power of Friendship”, which made her think immediately of Wang Lei. Li Yue had spent weeks preparing, writing, and rewriting her speech with the help of her best friend, Wang Lei. Wang Lei had always been her biggest supporter, encouraging her to step out of her comfort zone. He had practiced with her for countless hours, patiently listening and giving suggestions. Whenever Li Yue felt nervous or looked unsure, he would smile and say, “Believe in yourself — you’re fully prepared”, a sentence that rang loud in her heart like a steady drumbeat.
Standing backstage, Li Yue’s heart was beating quickly and loudly. She could feel her hands getting sweaty. She looked through the curtain secretly and saw the audience, a sea of faces that seemed to go on forever. Then she saw her main competitor, Sun Qian, walking off the stage with a confident smile, and receiving loud applause (掌声). The sound felt like a wave of pressure crashing over her. Suddenly, Li Yue’s confidence disappeared. Her hands started to shake uncontrollably, and the words of her carefully prepared speech seemed to disappear from her mind, leaving behind a terrifying blank. “What if I forget everything? What if they laugh at me? What if I disappoint Wang Lei after all his help?” she thought, fear rising inside her. She took a deep breath, but it did little to calm her nerves. Just then, the host’s voice rang through the speakers, “And now, let’s welcome our next contestant, Li Yue!”

First, jogging can be done almost anywhere, helping us build patience and improve our heart health. Second, ball games such as basketball help us develop teamwork and communication skills. By taking part in such sports, we can reduce stress from our studies and enjoy quality time with friends.
Let’s encourage everyone around us to take part in sports and create a healthier community together!
【答案】
Li Yue slowly walked onto the stage. She felt the bright spotlight shining directly into her eyes. The audience became completely quiet, all eyes focused on her. Just as her mind went blank, she suddenly noticed a familiar figure in the front row — it was Wang Lei, who gave her a warm, encouraging smile and a firm thumbs-up. At that moment, Wang Lei’s words echoed in her ears, “Believe in yourself — you are fully prepared.”
Taking a deep breath, Li Yue calmed down quickly. She no longer focused on memorizing the speech word for word. Instead, she began speaking from her heart, sharing the story of her and Wang Lei. She talked about those late nights spent practicing together, the times Wang Lei patiently corrected her pronunciation, and the warmth she felt during moments of hesitation. Her voice grew steadier and more confident, and the words flowed naturally. When she finished, the hall exploded with applause. At that moment, Li Yue knew she not only overcame her fear but also proved that true friendship is the greatest power of all.
