When your parents give you pocket money every week, how do you deal with it
Read the story and talk about its main idea.
Mary and her cousins would go every month for a big family meal at their grandparents’ house. Their grandfather often gave them a few coins, saying, “You can buy yourself something.” None of them saved their money. They spend it all! The grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents thought this was not good — the children would never learn to manage their pocket money. So they decided to have a test. They wanted to see what the children could get with the coins within a year.
Tom, the smallest kid, spent all his money on sweets.
Jim was strong-willed. He wanted to win the test. He saved every cent. He was the clear winner.
新课讲授
Reading
Then there was Mary. She loved the violin, but the family couldn’t pay for her violin lessons. So Mary went to her neighbour, a violinist. Mary offered him all the coins, asking the violinist to teach her how to play. It wasn’t much money, but seeing Mary’s excitement, the violinist agreed. He taught her happily for months. Later, the two played together in the park. They were very successful, and Mary was able to buy her own violin. Years later, Mary became a very famous violinist.
Spending money on self-improvement brings long-term rewards.
