When I first came across Hirono, he didn’t really stand out to me. He was
among several figurines (小雕像) tucked away in a corner of Pop Mart’s studio. They seemed subtle, almost unassuming, and I didn’t give them much thought at the time.
Little did I know, that was the beginning of a connection I was about to discover.
It wasn’t until I joined Pop Mart as a livestream host last July — as part of my job to learn about every IP in the company — that my true journey with Hirono
began. I still remember the very first set of figures I sold during my first livestream session: Hirono’s “Shelter” series.
This once-distant, unnoticed figure suddenly became the centerpiece of my
work. As I introduced Hirono to others, I began to appreciate the quiet charm hidden
in his world. His expression is always sullen — drooping eyes, slouched posture, an almost “untouchable” aura. Not the cutest or most eye-catching look, I would say, but I came to realize that it’s all a protective shell.
In him, I saw a reflection of myself: the loneliness and confusion that surface under life’s pressure, and the indifferent masks we sometimes put on to cope with reality.
Though I am usually an extrovert, cheerful and bubbly on the outside, the truth is that every story carries untold chapters.
Through Hirono, I allow myself to feel the vast wilderness deep within my heart, and often I see my own emotions projected onto his figure.
One of my favorite series is definitely “Echo”. As a foreign student in China, homesickness quietly lingers in the background of my life. This series reminds me
that these echoes of the past are not just fleeting shadows, but silent companions that resurface when I need them most, giving me strength and allowing me to break free from the weight of reality, even just for a moment.
To me, Hirono is a friend who teaches me to embrace both the loneliness and the light within.
4 .What does the underlined word “unassuming” in paragraph 1 mean
A .Not trying to attract attention. B .Difficult to understand.
C .Poorly made or designed. D .Strangely shaped.
5 .What caused the author to start getting to know Hirono
A.Seeing Hirono in a corner of the studio. B.Working as a livestream host at Pop Mart.
C .Selling Hirono’s “Shelter” series online. D .Being attracted by Hirono’s expression.
6 .Why did the author’s view of Hirono change
A .Presenting the figure to others. B .Understanding its protective shell.
C .Connecting with the “Echo” series. D .Seeing himself in the figure.
7 .What does the author’s experience show
A .Accept your lonely moments. B .Face your inner self.
C .Embrace who you truly are. D .Know yourself first.

Here are two interesting questions. Are you very happy with your life now Are people happier as they get older A study found that people generally become happier and experience less worry after age 50. In fact, it found that by the age of 85, people are happier with their life than they were at 18.
The finding came from a Gallup survey of more than 340,000 adults between the age of 18 and 85 in the United States.
Arthur Stone in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University in New York led the study. His team found that levels of stress were highest among adults between the ages of 22 and 25. Stress levels dropped sharply
after people reached their fifties.
Happiness was highest among the youngest adults and those in their early
seventies. But the people least likely to report feeling negative emotions were those in their seventies and eighties. The survey also found that men and women had similar
emotional patterns as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness, stress and worry than men did.
The researchers also considered possible influences like having young
children, being unemployed or being single. But they found that influences like these did not affect the levels of happiness and well-being related to age.
So why would happiness increase with age One theory is that, as people get older, they become more thankful for what they have and have better control of their emotions. They also spend less time thinking about bad experiences.
The original goal of the study was to confirm the popular belief that aging is connected with increased sleep problems. The survey did find an increase during
middle age, especially in women. But except for that, people reported that they felt their sleep quality, improved as they got older.
8 .What is the purpose of the two questions in paragraph 1
A .To report the findings of a research. B .To introduce the topic of the passage.
C .To explain the reason for happiness. D .To write an outstanding article.
9 .Which age group of adults feel most stressful according to the study
A .The adults in their twenties. B .The adults in their fifties.
C .The adults in their seventies. D .The adults in their eighties.
10 .We can know from the passage that .
A .people in their eighties enjoy the highest level of happiness
B .people are sure to sleep poorly when they get older
C .women of all ages are more likely to be in negative emotion than men
D .stress levels dropped sharply after people reached their seventies
11 .What does the text mainly intend to tell us
A .Young people are more stressful than older ones.
B .The feeling of happiness increases with age.
C .Women are more burdened than men.
D .Sleep quality will improve as people get older.

Many residents viewed bottled water sold in large refillable containers as the
safest choice. However, testing showed that among the 11 water sources examined,
bottled water was the most likely to contain coliform bacteria (大肠菌群). “We found there is a clear gap between what people believe about water safety and what is
actually happening in their homes, and that can have major public health
implications,” said Dr Brooke Ramay, a researcher from Washington State University.
Unsafe drinking water continues to be a serious global health issue. More than 4 billion people around the world lack access to safely managed water, and polluted
water contributes to millions of cases of diarrheal illness each year, especially among children. Polluted water is also increasingly linked to the spread of
antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (耐药菌).
The research team surveyed 60 households, split evenly between urban and rural areas, and collected water samples from several sources, including bottled, piped,
well, spring, and filtered water. The samples were analyzed for coliform bacteria.
Despite being widely trusted, bottled water was six times more likely to test positive for coliform bacteria than other water sources. Only 17% of bottled water samples
met World Health Organization standards for safe drinking water.
The study also highlighted how cultural beliefs influence everyday behavior. People who trust their water source are less likely to boil or treat it, and those who rely on bottled water often skip cleaning water dispensers (饮水机).
“Our results suggest that beliefs about water safety may actually contribute to
pollution because people do not take the same steps with sources they trust as they do with other less trusted ones,” said Ramay. “Understanding how people view water
safety is key to improving public health. When people believe their water is safe, they don’t take extra measures, but when they see a risk, they change their behavior.”
12 .What does Ramay imply in paragraph 1
A .Views on water safety differ from reality. B .Bottled water is probably safe.
C .People know water safety well. D .Home water affects public health.
13 .What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A .Global health issues. B .The effect of polluted water.
C .Water management problems. D .The spread of bacteria in water.
14 .What does the study find about bottled water
A .It has poor test results though trusted by people.
B .It is unimproved when dispensers are cleaned.
C .It meets standards more than other sources.
D .It is the safest choice among all sources.
15 .What might Ramay agree with about drinking water safely
A .Choosing the water you like best. B .Never believing bottled water is safe.
C .Changing the thought of clean water. D .Understanding water safety correctly.

Living in a different country can be a culture shock for many people, so make sure you know about the food, customs and culture of the place you are planning on moving to. 16 . Here is some of my experience of moving from Spain to the UK.
17
The first thing that I did when I got out ofthe airport was to cross the road, but I looked the wrong way! In the UK the cars drive on the lefthand side of the road

how silly I had been.
Time is different
If we are going for a proper night out at the weekend in Spain we might not meet until 10 or 11 pm at night or even later sometimes. This means we might not actually get home until 5 or 6 o’clock the following morning. 19 !
Greet everyone with a kiss
In the UK most men use a handshake to greet other men. 20 . Women may be greeted with a handshake, a hug or a kiss on the cheek, depending on the
situation. In Spain, among my friends, everyone is greeted with a kiss on both cheeks and maybe a quick hug.

I hadjust stepped off the plane after an exhausting business trip in Los Angeles. It was June 13th, and as I stood at the baggage carousel (传送带), waiting for my
luggage, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of relief wash over me. All I wanted was to
go home and see Eric, who’d been waiting to celebrate our 33rd anniversary together. But as I picked up my suitcase, my heart skipped a beat — the diamond from my
engagement ring (订婚戒指) was missing.
“Oh no,” I whispered to myself, my heart sinking. Panic set in. I truly didn’t think I was ever going to see that precious diamond again. It wasn’tjust a piece of
jewelry; it was a symbol of our love and commitment.
Without hesitation, I rushed back to the airline desk, determined to find my
diamond. I reported the loss to an airline staff member, who immediately showed
concern and offered support. A maintenance team, led by Tom Riordan, a dedicated stationary engineer with two decades of experience, quickly acted to help me.
“We’ll do everything we can to find it,” Tom said firmly, his eyes reflecting a
genuine commitment to helping me. His team quickly got to work, moving among the complicated mechanical devices beneath the carousel. I stood there, feeling helpless but grateful for their firm dedication.
After an hour and a half of searching, Tom turned to me with a sympathetic look. “We haven’t found it yet, but the next shift will continue the search,” he said. “Don’t worry, we won’t give up.”
I left the airport that day with a heavy heart, but Tom’s assurance kept a small spark of hope alive within me.

Last week, I participated in a cultural heritage site visit organized by our school’s English club. We visited an ancient temple, learning about its history and architectural features from a
knowledgeable guide.
The experience was eye-opening. I was amazed by the intricate carvings and the rich
history behind the temple. It made me appreciate our cultural heritage more deeply and realize the importance of preserving it.
I also had the chance to interact with fellow club members, sharing our thoughts and
feelings. This activity not only broadened my horizons but also strengthened my bond with my peers.
47 .参考范文:
A few hours later, surprisingly, Igot a call from Tom. “Madam, we have found it!” he
shouted, and his voice was full of joy. I couldn’t believe it. My jaw dropped as Tom explained how the team found the diamond. “It was like finding a needle in a haystack,” he said. I rushed back to the airport, my heart racing with hope. Tom showed a tiny plastic bag containing my
diamond. When I saw it sparkling in his palm, I felt a surge of emotion.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I thanked Tom and his team, over and over again. “You have no idea how much this means to me,” I said. “I travel a lot and go to many airports. But I’ve never
had an experience like this before. You treat me like an important person, not just a random
passenger.” Tom smiled, eyes twinkling with kindness. Reflecting on the experience, I realized how lucky I was to have met such kind-hearted people. Their compassion and teamwork had
turned despair into joyful reunion.
