Choosing a major is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make while you’re in college. It’s important that you make your choice confidently and after some consideration.
There’s Nothing Wrong With Being “Undecided”.
Between 20% and 50% of college freshmen enter school without a declared major. Keep in mind that there’s nothing wrong with remaining “undecided” or “undeclared” for the first few
years of your college career. You can use this time to decide what you’re interested in. Also, keep in mind that even if you do declare a major your freshman year, you can always change your
mind. About one-third of first-time college students change their major within three years. Even
more, over 60% of college graduates say they would go back and change their major if they could, primarily to pursue their passion areas and expand their job opportunities.
Explore Your Passions and Abilities.
Set aside some time to really explore your passions and take stock of your unique abilities. With an undeclared major to start, you can take time to really develop into what interests you. Join clubs around campus to connect with fellow students who share your interests. Take electives in
areas that you might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience. For example, when else
might you be able to take a poetry course or an art history seminar College is the perfect time to step out of your box and expand your horizons. As a student with an undeclared major, you’re
uniquely positioned to do just that.
Consider Employment Opportunities.
While it’s important to choose a major that interests you, it’s also critical to choose a
college major that will provide you with future employment opportunities. Statistically, the
college majors that tend to have the most earning power are in STEM. These majors might include health sciences or computer engineering. Business majors can also expect a higher than average
earning potential. That being said, employers frequently recognize that graduates who majored in the liberal arts have valuable soft skills, too, including strong communication, written and verbal skills, and leadership abilities. The key is to pick a major that will be marketable for the career
you’re interested in pursuing.
Talk to an Academic Advisor.
If you need a little guidance, set up an appointment with an academic advisor or career
counselors. Career development counselors and academic advisors can help you narrow down
your options. If you have an idea of, what classes you’ve most enjoyed and what career paths are most appealing to you, working with one of these professionals might be the final push you need to pick a major.
Still have some doubts now You can submit your questions Here.

One Saturday, Mary and I were playing with a ball and suddenly the ball went into a big
man’s house. We went to his house and asked him if he could let us in to get our ball. He said,
“No.” We felt helpless. Then I had an idea. There was a water tank (水箱) behind the man’s house. I looked at it and told Mary that we could climb onto the water tank and jump over the wall. Mary agreed, but we were both wearing skirts. So we decided to get our ball the next day.
The next morning Mary and I went to the water tank very early. We were both wearing
shorts. Mary first climbed down into the man’s house by herself and I followed her. We looked for the ball and found it under a bed. Along with the ball were some gold bars! In a rush, we climbed back with the ball.
When we reached Mary’s house, the TV was on. It was news time. We couldn’t believe our ears when we heard that 20 gold bars were stolen from a gold shop. They showed a picture of the gold bars which were exactly the same as the ones we had seen under the big man’s bed. We
rushed to tell Mary’s mother about the gold bars and she called the police immediately. The police came at once and caught the man. They found the gold bars in his house.
Several days later a police officer came and said, “Thank you children for helping us catch the thief. Here is the reward for you.”
We opened the gift box and were greatly surprised. There were some detective (侦探的)

Gifted students in the Wichita Falls Independent School District in Texas had the
opportunity to travel to STEM facilities and learn coding and other technical skills, but the
transportation is not convenient. “We just started talking about, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we were able to design a mobile STEM lab ’ ”says Dr. Peter E. Griffiths, the district’s associate
superintendent. Educators soon realized that they could retrofit an old bus into a mobile STEM lab, which would provide increased access to career and technical education (CTE) experiences for students.
Districts sold off buses when the vehicles became too old. Griffiths and his colleagues
decided to retrofit one of those old vehicles. “Give me your ‘best worst’ bus,” Griffiths said to the transportation department. Soon the process of transforming began. Griffiths reached out to
Reuben Rodriguez, the owner of a local car company, and explained what they wanted to do. Rodriguez agreed to work with the district on the price on condition that they could send CTE students to lend a hand with some of the building work. And bringing the bus from the dream stage to fruition has taken a lot of joint efforts of educators and the community.
Called STEAM Machine, the bus looks like a device from a video game or a real-life Lego truck, and rides as a mobile maker space. “It has two touch screen TVs outside. It comes complete with drones and drone obstacle courses that will help students learn about coding in an enjoyable way,” Griffiths says. “Those are things that a lot of these kids have never experienced before.”
To drive the bus, the district has hired a retiring teacher who will take the bus to various
schools and engage in different lessons with students and educators. “We were so concerned about kids losing out on experiences before, and this is a solution. We aren’t going to let this go. The
STEAM Machine will be equipped with all the necessary materials and resources, and it may change the way students learn and engage with their education,” Griffiths said.
57 .What is the main purpose of the mobile STEM lab
A .To develop students’ interest in STEM research.
B .To replace traditional school buses with electric ones.
C .To provide fun activities for students during long trips
D .To enable students to get more learning chances.
58 .What was Rodriguez’s requirement for transforming the old bus
A .Educators needed to pay him in advance.
B .Some students could help with the building work.
C .The old bus should be equipped with high technology.
D .The district must provide him with necessary materials.
59 .What does Griffiths say about the STEAM Machine in Paragraph 3
A .It brings students fun learning experiences.
B .It awakens students’ curiosity about bus driving.
C .It protects students’ health with its special design.
D .It saves students’ time by reducing traffic on the road.
60 .What’s Griffiths’ attitude towards the future of the STEAM Machine
A .Doubtful. B .Worried. C .Hopeful. D .Unclear.
61 .Which of the following best describes the features of the STEAM Machine
A .Safe and long-lasting. B .Fashionable and comfortable.
C .Creative and educational. D .Cheap and eco-friendly.

Smartphones are our constant companions. For many of us, their glowing screens are a
ubiquitous (十分普遍的) presence, drawing us in with endless distractions. They are in our hands as soon as we wake, and command our attention until the final moments before we fall asleep.
Steve Jobs would not approve.
In 2007, Jobs took the stage and introduced the world to the iPhone. If you watch the full speech, you will be surprised by how he imagined our relationship should be with this iconic (标志性的) invention. This vision is so different from the way most ofus use these devices now.
In his remarks, Jobs spent an extended amount of time demonstrating how users could
utilize (应用) its touch screen before detailing the many ways Apple engineers had improved the
age-old process of making phone calls. “It’s the best iPod we’ve ever made,” Jobs exclaimed at one point. “The killer app is making calls,” he later added. Both lines drew thunderous applause.
The presentation confirms that Jobs imagined a simpler iPhone experience than the one we actually have more than a decade later. For example, there was no App Store when the iPhone was first introduced, and this was by design. Jobs was convinced that the phone’s carefully-designed
native features were enough. He did not seek to completely change the rhythm of users’ daily
lives. He simply wanted to take experiences we had already found important — listening to music, placing calls, generating directions — and make them better.
The minimalist (简约主义者) vision for the iPhone Jobs offered in 2007 is unrecognizable today — and that is a shame.
Under what I call the “constant companion model,” we now see our smartphones as
always-on portal (通道) to information. We have become so used to it over the past decade that it is easy to forget the novelty (新奇) of the device. It seems increasingly clear to me that Jobs
probably got it right from the very beginning: Many of us would be better-off returning to his original minimalist vision for our phones.
Practically speaking, to be a minimalist smartphone user means only using your device for a small number of features that do things of value to you. Otherwise, you simply put it away
outside of these activities. This approach removes this gadget (小玩意) from the position of a constant companion down to a luxury object, such as a fancy bike, that gives you great pleasure when you use it but does not dominate your entire day.
Early in his 2007 keynote jobs said, “Today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone.” What he didn’t add, however, was the follow-up promise: “Tomorrow, we’re going to reinvent your
life.” The smartphone is fantastic, but it was never meant to be the foundation for a new form of existence. If you return this innovation to its original role, you will get more out of both your
phone and your life.
62 .According to Steve Jobs, what was the main selling point of Apple’s first iPhone
A .It allowed its users to have access to the Internet.
B .It was actually an iPod that could make phone calls.
C .It was installed with applications by third-party developers.
D .It could fulfill people’s desire to multitask in their daily lives.
63 .According to the article, a minimalist smartphone user is likely to .
A .expect to reinvent his life with the device
B .buy the latest model of iPhone and see it as a luxury
C .spend more time working than playing with his device
D .remove the unnecessary applications from the device
64 .The underlined word “it” in the 7th paragraph probably refers to
A .the native features of smartphones B .the information on the Internet
C .the novelty of the device D .the constant companion model
65 .What can be inferred from the passage
A .The minimalism of iPhone helps users bring out the best ofthe device.
B .Jobs expected iPhone to be the foundation for a new form of existence.
C .Smartphone users have changed their life to enjoy pleasant experiences.
D .The invention of App Store has made smartphones luxury objects.
66 .The author’s purpose in writing the article was to .
A .tell readers why Steve Job created the iPhone
B .remind readers not to be addicted to their smartphones
C .show readers that smartphones can greatly change their lives
D .encourage readers to block Internet access on their smartphones

Researchers have built the smallest fully programmable autonomous robots ever created. These machines can swim through liquid, sense their surroundings, respond on their own, and operate for months at a time. Powered entirely by light, the robots contain minicomputers that allow them to follow programmed paths, detect local temperature changes, and adjust their
movement in response.
As is known, fish and other large swimmers move by pushing water backward, generating forward motion. The tiny robots take a very different approach. These robots generate an electrical field that gently pushes charged bits in the surrounding liquid. As those charged bits move, they
drag nearby tiny water molecules with them, effectively creating motion in the liquid around the robot.
True autonomy requires more than movement. A robot must also be able to sense its
environment, make decisions, and power itself. All of those parts must fit onto a chip that is only a small part of a millimeter across.
One of the biggest problems was power. “The key challenge for the electronics,” Blaauw, a researcher, says, “is that the solar boards are tiny and produce only 75 nanowatts (纳瓦) of power.” To make the system work, the team designed specialized circuits that operate at extremely low
voltages (电压), cutting power consumption by more than 1,000 times.
Space was another major limitation. The solar boards take up most of the robot’s surface,
leaving very little room for computing hardware. To solve this, the researchers redesigned how the robot’s software works. “We squeezed what would usually require many instructions for
movement control into a single, special instruction to reduce the program’s length to fit in the robot’s tiny memory space,” Blaauw explains.
Together, these advances produced what the researchers believe is the first sub-millimeter robot capable of real decision-making. “This is really just the first chapter,” says Blaauw. “We’ve shown that you can put a brain, a sensor and a motor into something almost too small to see, and have it survive and work for months. Once you have that foundation, you can layer on all kinds of intelligence and functionality. It opens the door to a whole new future for mini-robots.”
67 .What mainly powers the tiny robots
A .Batteries. B .Water flow. C .Solar boards. D .Electric fields.
68 .What guarantees the robot’s true autonomy
A.Big memory space. B.Integrated key parts.C.Long program length. D.Single movement step.
69 .What was the key challenge for the robots’ electronics
A .Limited memory space. B .High voltage requirements.
C .Extremely low power supply. D .Unstable temperature control.
70 .What is the main significance of the research according to Blaauw
A .Creating long-lasting micro-batteries. B .Developing new solar power systems.
C.Achieving full automation in large robots. D.Enabling intelligence in nearly invisible robots.
After an exhausting swim practice on a cold winter evening, I received an invitation from my friend Lucy, asking me to attend a dance. At the top of the invitation, Young Angels was
written across the page. Young Angels was organizing a dance to raise money for community service projects. I thought it was such a great idea that I not only wanted to attend it, but also wanted to become involved.
This was over two years ago and since then, I have become a lead member in Young
Angels of America. At each dance, teens not only have fun with their friends but are also informed about different charities. Knowing that I have taught others how they can get involved makes me feel satisfied and delighted.
The most memorable experience of my time in Young Angels was the Middle School
Winter Dance in 2007, when we had a special child help organize the dance and participate in the event. This child was Lily. Lily had a dreadful disease that will eventually kill her. Lily had the
best attitude towards life: she enjoyed every moment and made the best ofit. Lily got me inspired to help others and never take any moment for granted.
I now have a dream. I want to inspire as many children as possible to volunteer. So many kids don’t realize how easy it is to make a difference to the world. I am only 15 years old and I have organized over five events, getting nearly 1,000 children involved. I want to be the angel to inspire that passion in others to make the difference that I feel as I have made to my community.
71 .What’s the purpose of the dance organized by Young Angels
72 .How did the author feel about her influence on others
73 .What does the underlined word “dreadful” in Paragraph 3 mean

7 .A

Many of us would be better-off returning to his original minimalist vision for our phones. (我似乎越来越清楚,乔布斯可能从一开始就做到了:我们中的许多人最好还是回到他最初对手机的极简主义设想)”和最后一段中的“If you return this innovation to its original role, you will get
more out of both your phone and your life. 故选 A 项。
Many of us would be better-off returning to his original
minimalist vision for our phones. (我们中的许多人最好还是回到他最初对手机的极简主义设想)”和最后一段中的“If you return this innovation to its original role, you will get more out of
both your phone and your life.
根据第四段中“One of the biggest problems was power. “The key challenge for the electronics,” Blaauw, a researcher, says, “is that the solar boards are tiny and produce only 75 nanowatts (纳瓦) of power.” (最大的问题之一是电力。研究人员 Blaauw 说:“ 电子设备的关键挑战在于太阳能电池板非常微小,仅能产生 75 纳瓦的功率。”)”可知,微型机器人的主要动力来自功率很小的太阳能电池板。故选 C 项。
68.细节理解题。根据第三段中“True autonomy requires more than movement. A robot must also be able to sense its environment, make decisions, and power itself. All of those parts must fit onto a chip that is only a small part of a millimeter across. (真正的自主性需要的不仅仅是移动。机器人还必须能够感知环境、做出决策并为自身提供动力。所有这些部件都必须安装在一个直径仅为一毫米几分之一的芯片上)”可知,集成关键部件保证了机器人的真正自主性。故选 B 项。
69 .细节理解题。根据第四段中““The key challenge for the electronics,” Blaauw, a researcher, says, “is that the solar boards are tiny and produce only 75 nanowatts (纳瓦) of power.”(研究人员Blaauw 说:“ 电子设备的关键挑战在于太阳能电池板非常微小,仅能产生 75 纳瓦的功
根据最后一段中 Blaauw 的话“We’ve shown that you can put a brain, a sensor and a motor into something almost too small to see, and have it survive and work for months.
Once you have that foundation, you can layer on all kinds of intelligence and functionality. It
opens the door to a whole new future for mini-robots.
71.To raise money for community services projects. 72.She was /felt satisfied and delighted.
73.Horrible. 74.To inspire as many children as possible to volunteer. 75.(Open). I think the author’s dream can inspire many children to take part in volunteer work and make a difference to the world.
Young Angels was organizing a dance to raise money for
To raise money for
community services projects.
根据第二段中“Knowing that I have taught others how they can get involved makes me feel satisfied and delighted.(知道我已经教会了别人如何参与进来,让我感到满足和高兴)”可知,作者对她对别人产生的影响感到满意和高兴。 She was /felt satisfied and delighted.
根据画线词后文“disease that will eventually kill her”可知,莉莉得了一种可怕的疾病,最终会要了她的命。 Horrible.
根据最后一段中“I now have a dream, I want to inspire as many children as possible to volunteer.(我现在有一个梦想,我想激励尽可能多的孩子去做志愿者)”可知,作者的梦想是鼓励尽可能多的孩子参加志愿活动。 To inspire as many children as possible
to volunteer.
I think the author’s dream can inspire many children to take part in volunteer work and make a difference to the
world.
