Scientists have published a new report showing that in 2025, the world's oceans heated up more than ever.
This is the eighth year in a row that ocean temperatures have broken 36 . Researchers say this is strong
evidence that our planet is warming because of human actions, and the effects will 37 for hundreds of
years.
Oceans cover about 70% of Earth and store 90% of the extra heat from global warming. This makes
measuring ocean heat one of the best ways to understand climate change.
The study, written by over 50 scientists from around the world, used lots of different information to
calculate the ocean's heating. This 38 data from research ships, satellites, and floating buoys(浮标).
The team even put sensors on sea animals because they could go to places robots 39 can't.
According to the report, the amount of heat the oceans have taken in is hard to imagine. Scientist John
Abraham, who helped write the report, has a way to 40 the extra energy that the oceans took in-it's
as if 12 atomic bombs(原子弹) exploded in the oceans last year-enough energy to boil the water of 2 billion
Olympic-sized swimming pools.
The warming of the oceans is already having 41 effects. It is linked to stronger storms, more
wildfires, deadly floods, and also the melting ice in Greenland and Antarctica. Rising ocean temperatures are
also damaging coral reefs(珊 瑚 礁), which provide 42 for over 25% of life in the ocean.
Scientists say temperatures will keep rising until we stop 43 greenhouse gas completely. Even
then, it will take centuries for the oceans to cool back down. Still, the researchers believe there's hope. Dr.
Abraham says, "We can solve this problem today, with today's technology."

Most of us like living near other people in a community. Why Early humans lived in large groups called
tribes( 部 落). Tribes were necessary to keep people alive. People in tribes shared food and kept each other safe.
As a result, our brains are hard to connect with other people. Being part of a community - a modern kind of
tribe-i 71 our health and happiness in many ways. Studies show that people who are less connected
survey in the United Kingdom found that nearly ten million people said they often felt lonely. That's one in six
people in the whole country. In fact, loneliness is i 72 year-on-year by about 1.9 percent around the
world. When we are lonely, we feel stressed. Stress can lead to health problems such as heart disease and
weight gain, experts say. A study in 2013 showed that having few social connections is w 73 for your
health than smoking cigarettes.
Being in a community has many positive effects. If we are sick, close social connections help us get better
faster. And they help us sleep better, too. One study showed that being part of a community gives you a 50
percent c 74 of living longer. People who have good social connections do better at school. They are
also more e 75 at work and keep their jobs longer.
There are several ways we can get more of the positive effects from our communities. Using Next-door,a
neighborhood social networking app, is one way. For example, Joan in Spain used Next-door to tell neighbors
that he needed help. He wanted to make a movie. Over forty neighbors volunteered to help. Joan's neighbors
learned new skills while they were working t 76 . They became good friends, too. Dr. Emma who studies
the effects of social connections says there are other ways people can connect in their community. These
include getting a pet and meeting other pet owners, or taking a class and learning something new.
In conclusion, it might take effort, but the a 77 of making connections in your community are
worth munities make us feel good and help us deal with the problem of loneliness. Connect with your
community today.
D. Answer the questions( 根 据 短 文 内 容 回 答 问 题 ) (12 分 )
Have you ever wished you could turn back time and do something differently Maybe you' ve said
something hurtful or failed a test. Everyone makes mistakes; the important thing is not to panic. Remember
that messing up from time to time is part of being human.
Mistakes are important
When you mess something up, it's easy to feel depressed with yourself. However, mistakes give your
brain an opportunity to adjust what it's doing and learn, so you get things right in future. In fact, they are such
an important part of being human that your body often knows that you have made them before you do.
Scientists say when you make a mistake, like falling off a bike, your brain creates electrical activity. This sends
a signal to the rest of your brain before you even hit the ground. Studies show these signals teach you to be
more careful next time.
How can they help
Making mistakes teaches you resilience, which means being able to bounce back ( 恢 复 ) from
disappointments or challenges. England footballer Lauren Hemp, who won the women's Euros with the
Lionesses this summer, says sometimes the team makes"mistake after mistake" in matches, but this just makes
them more determined to play better. "Even when things aren' t going our way, we can still try to turn it
around," she says. What seems like a disaster at the time can sometimes be funny afterwards, so next time if
you say the wrong thing in class, you could 81 .

Face up to failures
The best way to learn from your mistakes is to face up to them, says Professor Pragya Agarwal. Try to
feel comfortable when things go wrong. It might feel like a strange way to deal with failure, but it's"a more
positive way forward", she explains. This is because you often feel embarrassed by your mistakes, so you try
to hide them from others, which makes you more likely to repeat them. When you' re not being hard on
yourself, it's easier to learn and this helps you do things differently next time. Agarwal says.
78. Do Mistakes help the brain adjust and people do things right later
79. What happens in the brain when people make a mistake according to scientists
80. Why does the writer mention England footballer Lauren Hemp in the passage
81. What can be filled in this blank

作文
范文 1
I’m sorry to hear about your problem. Here are some useful suggestions for you.
First of all, you’d better have a sincere talk with your friend. You can tell her that it’s not a
good habit to spend all pocket money on dolls, and it’s unwise to borrow money just for
limited-edition toys. Besides, you can advise her to develop other hobbies, such as reading or
doing sports, which are more meaningful. What’s more, you should refuse to lend her money
directly. If you always help her, she won’t realize her mistake.
In a word, true friendship needs honest communication. I hope these tips can help you solve
the problem.
范文 2
It’s really hard for you to face this situation, but don’t worry. I have some advice for you.
To begin with, it’s not right to lend her money, because it will encourage her unhealthy
consumption habit. Instead, you should communicate with her patiently. Explain that
limited-edition dolls are not worth all her money, and remind her to plan her pocket money
wisely. In addition, you can invite her to take part in some cheap but fun activities, so she will
pay less attention to buying dolls.
I believe your friend will understand you if you talk to her heart to heart.
范文 3
I totally understand your trouble, and I’d like to give you some advice.
Firstly, you shouldn’t lend money to her. If you do so, she will keep wasting money on dolls
and form a bad habit. Secondly, it’s necessary for you to share your opinions with her.
You can tell her that we teenagers should save money and spend it on useful things,
like books or study tools. Finally, you can suggest her making a budget for pocket
money.
As far as I’m concerned, real friends should help each other develop good habits. I hope your
problem will be solved soon.普陀区2025学年第二学期初三英语期中试卷

Lil quickly lay down by the stream, stretched her long tail into the water and said, “Grab my tail, Toby. I will pull you up.”
Toby held on tight and Lil pulled him safely to the bank.
Toby was very thankful. He told Lil that his family had a garden full of carrots and lettuce.
“Come to my home this afternoon”, he said, “and we will share our food with you. “
Lil smiled and agreed.
In the afternoon, Lil visited Toby's home. The rabbit family gave her fresh carrots and crunchy lettuce. Lil also brought some sweet blackberries she found. They sat together and ate happily.
After that day, Lil and Toby became best friends. They often played and shared food in the forest.
The other animals saw their kindness and started sharing too.
Soon, the whole forest was a happy place where everyone helped each other.
Kindness they learned is the sweetest the gift of all.
