OK, today we are going to study a thank - you letter written to a teacher. Before that, let's watch a short video expressing gratitude to teachers to help us understand the author's emotions.
Teachers are the ones who light our way, both in study and in life. Thank you for your patience, kindness, and endless belief in us.

Kelly is thankful because of the following reasons:

(1) You helped me a lot, especially after my grandmother passed away. 您帮助了我很多，尤其是在我祖母去世后。(教材 P29 3a)
pass away 去世 (委婉说法)
His grandpa passed away last year. 他的祖父去年过世了。
【拓】还可意为“消失；消逝”。
All the trouble will pass away with time. 所有的麻烦都将随时间消散。

remain v. 继续存在；保持不变
(1)[不及物动词]继续存在；剩余
There are only ten minutes remaining. 只剩下十分钟了。
(2)[连系动词]保持不变；仍然是
其后通常接形容词、名词作表语。
The weather remained cold. 天气一直很冷。
A shortage of energy remains a problem for that area. 对那个地区来说，能源短缺仍然是个问题。
(3)Thank you so much for being not only my teacher but also my friend. 非常感谢您不仅是我的老师，还是我的朋友。(教材P29 3a)

not only... but also... 不但……而且……
(1)用来连接两个相同的句子成分，该结构中的 also可省略。
当not only位于句首时，其后的部分要用倒装语序。
(3)Thank you so much for being not only my teacher but also my friend. 非常感谢您不仅是我的老师，还是我的朋友。(教材P29 3a)
Today, not only he himself, but also his brothers and sisters are leading happy lives. 如今，不仅他自己，他的弟弟妹妹也过着幸福的生活。
not only... but also... 不但……而且……
(2)not only... but also... 连接两个并列成分作主语时，谓语动词与其邻近的主语在人称和数上保持一致，即遵循“就近原则”。
