①Have you ever seen a wooden barrel (桶) It is made of many wooden pieces held together by metal rings. The Wooden Barrel Effect, also called the “Cask Effect”, is a famous idea that comes from watching how a barrel works.
②Think about a barrel with wooden pieces of different lengths. Some pieces are long, but one piece is very short. When you fill this barrel with water, what will happen The water will rise until it reaches the top of the shortest piece. Then it will begin to leak out(渗透). No matter how long the other pieces are, the barrel can never hold more water than the shortest piece allows.
③The effect teaches us something important. In a team, the weakest part often decides success. For example, in a basketball team, if one player keeps missing passes, the whole team may lose games. The team’s performance is limited by its weakest member.
④This also works for personal growth. Each of us has strengths and weaknesses. Our weaknesses are like the short piece. To make progress, we should find our “short pieces” and improve them. For instance, a student who may do well in math but struggle with English needs to devote more time and energy to improving his English skills.
⑤However, there is another way to think about it. Sometimes, instead of fixing the short piece, we can change how we use the barrel. We can tilt it so that water flows to the longer pieces. This means we can make good use of our strengths while managing our weaknesses.
⑥In short, the Wooden Barrel Effect reminds us that success needs balance. Whether in teamwork or personal development, we should focus on weaknesses while making the most of our strengths.
16. What decides how much water a barrel can hold
A. The longest piece of the barrel. B. The total number of pieces.
C. The shortest piece of the barrel. D. The average length of all pieces.
17. According to Paragraph 4, what is a student supposed to do if he is weak in English
A. To spend more time and energy improving English.
B. To only focus on subjects he is good at or interested in.
C. To give up studying English and work on math instead.
D. To ask teachers to give easier homework to avoid hard work.
18. What does the underlined word “tilt” mean in Paragraph 5
A. Keep...off. B. Turn...around. C. Lift...up on one side. D. Fill...up.
19. What can we infer from Paragraph 5 about dealing with weaknesses
A. Fixing weaknesses is always the perfect choice.
B. Weaknesses will disappear if we don’t focus on them.
C. Strengths become weaker when we focus on weaknesses.
D. Success can be achieved by making full use of our strengths.
20. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage
A. ①②③/④⑤/⑥ B. ①/②③/④⑤/⑥ C. ①/②③/④⑤⑥ D. ①②/③④/⑤/⑥
C
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有一项为多余选项。
There are many products posted on social media(媒体), and you might believe an electric toothbrush, Luna facial cleaning massager, a flight ticket to Phuket and so on will bring you a better life. But for many graduates or those who have worked for only one or two years, the money they make cannot keep up with their expense(支出). 21 Here’s how:
Keep running or doing yoga
It seems to be a challenge to afford a health center costing over 10,000 yuan a year. But you can buy a pair of sports shoes or a yoga mat instead. Running in a park or doing yoga at home using free online resources is really a kind of quality(质量) life. 22
Go to museums or libraries
Chasing young good-looking stars, watching their films and buying expensive tickets for their
concerts are popular with many young people. 23 You seem to fail to think about going to museums or libraries in your cities. Why not have a try What you need to do is to choose themes that you are interested in, make an online appointment in advance and then enjoy your weekend.
24
Shopping online is easier, faster and cheaper. But for some young people, sometimes what they buy online is not what they really need and the needs are created by the producers. For example, many buy new clothing and they don’t wear.
25 Money is not the only thing that can drive your quality of living, but your optimistic attitude towards life and self-disciplined(自律的) way of life are.
A. Stop over-spending online.B. Exercise is more worthy than holding a membership card at an expensive health club.C. So, how can we save some money and improve quality of life D. Making money and saving money are not the final goal of life.E. To live a quality life requires more money than self-discipline.F. However, this would do little to improve your spiritual life and increase spending.

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made a great invention-the telephone. For the first time in history, people could talk to someone far away just like they were in the same room. But today, phones can do much more than just make calls!
The story of mobile phones began with two-way radios. These early devices had a big problem-they only worked when people were close to each other. In the 1940s, smart scientists found a way. They built tall radio towers across the country to pass signals easily.
Everything changed in 1973 when Dr. Martin Cooper made the first real mobile phone call. During the 1980s, mobile phones became smaller but were still very expensive. Only rich business people could afford them, and the phones looked like big plastic bricks.
The 1990s brought another big change. Phones became cheaper and smaller, fitting easily in pockets. Soon, almost everyone had one. Text messaging became popular. People started writing short messages instead of making phone calls. Meeting time became more flexible(灵活的) because you could just text “I’ll be 15 minutes late.”
Now we have smartphones-like powerful mini-computers in our pockets. We use them to take photos, watch videos, play games, and even help with housework! Messaging apps let us send videos and long messages easily. While phones help us stay connected, some people worry that we spend too much time on them.
Looking back, it’s amazing how phones have changed. From Bell’s simple telephone to today’s smartphones, this has truly changed our lives. What will phones be able to do next Only time will tell!

Is AI bad for new music
The world’s oldest musical instruments are more than 40,000 years old. For thousands of years, humans have been making music for pleasure and to express themselves.
Recently, there has been a rise in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create music. AI makes music by analyzing(分析) many different songs, learning patterns and details, and then mixing pieces together in creative ways. Some AI music has become so popular that it has been shared widely online.
However, some people think using AI to create music isn’t truly original(原创的) or creative because it makes songs out of old music. What do you think Is AI bad for creativity
Yes-AI music isn’t creative.
Using AI might be cheaper than paying a musician. If companies can use AI to produce popular music that makes lots of money from people buying and listening to it, it could put musicians out of work. If musicians can’t earn money from music, there will be far fewer of them creating new songs. Anyway, listening to music that was made by a computer isn’t the same experience as listening to human-made music. When musicians create songs, they put real feelings and experiences into their work, which builds a deep connection with listeners through their music. Music produced by AI isn’t truly original, as it simply takes pieces from songs that have already been published. Therefore, it cannot be considered creative.
No-AI can help spark(激发) new ideas.
When people turn on their radio or headphones and a great new song comes on, it makes them feel good. A catchy tune(曲调) brings people together to sing and dance. If people are enjoying music, who cares whether it was made by a human or a machine Music makers already use computers, which help to perfect sound and mix different parts of a song. Like computers, AI can also help spark ideas. It won’t replace musicians but they can work with it. Building on music created by AI could save time. It could allow more music to be produced and it could lead to new and special styles of music. AI could create exciting tunes that humans could never have dreamed of.

Better Sleep
Sleep is very important for people’s health. However, many people especially students face all kinds of sleep problems today.
Many students sleep too late and have trouble falling asleep quickly. Another common problem is that they often wake up many times at midnight and can not get a full deep sleep. These problems can lead to stress, low energy, and poor performance at work or school.
To improve sleep quality, we should go to bed at a regular time. We also need to avoid using mobile phones before bed. Also, don’t drink coffee, tea, or other drinks in the evening. What’s more, we can listen to soft peaceful music to calm our mind before sleeping. Good sleep keeps us healthy and energetic. Let’s pay more attention to our sleep from now on.
