Improving fitness was Dion Leonard’s inspiration for starting marathon recreationally together with his wife
Lucja, and then as race competitors. After finishing sixth in a South African race, he traveled to China to compete in a
155-mile race across the Gobi Desert. On the first day, he noticed a small stray (流浪的) dog wandering around the
campsite, where amused competitors fed her with their own limited supplies. On day two, Dion and the dog took some
time to warm up to each other, and she even tried to chew his running equipment. Dion soon named her Gobi.
Besides having completed a race requiring remarkable physical strength together, they also overcame emotionally
trying circumstances when tasked with saving a severely worn-out competitor, ultimately costing them first place in the
race. Through thick and thin, Dion and Gobi survived together and had no intentions of parting ways at the finish line.
Determined to adopt Gobi and take her back to his home in Scotland, Dion launched a crowdfunding campaign that
proved wildly successful. He later donated all extra funds to stray dog rescue organizations. However, disaster struck:
Gobi went missing in Urumqi while awaiting an official approval to leave China.
Despite the language barrier and the city’s 3 million population, Dion immediately flew back to search for her. By
then, their heartwarming story had gained international media coverage, inspiring hundreds of Chinese volunteers to join
in his search. Thankfully, Gobi was found. The reunion did more than bring them back together; it helped people of
different cultures grow closer together as well.
The pair now live happily in Tucson. Dion has written and published books documenting his and Gobi’s story —
the children’s book tells a visual story through Gobi’s eyes while the adult book (a New York Times bestseller called
Finding Gobi) addresses themes such as Dion’s upbringing that drove him not to leave Gobi behind. The different angles
educate about everything from the value of exercise to animal welfare to overcoming obstacles.
24.What can be inferred from the first paragraph
A.Dion quickly formed a bond with Gobi.
B.The organizers provided limited supplies.
C.Gobi amused runners by chewing equipment.
D.Dogs were encouraged to accompany runners.
25.Why did Dion launch a crowdfunding campaign
A.To finance his search for Gobi.
B.To help rescue other stray dogs.
C.To cover the cost of bringing Gobi back home.
D.To obtain an approval for Gobi to leave China.
26.Which of the following best describes Dion’s books
A.Critical and cross-cultural. B.Motivational and time-honored.
C.Innovative and fantasy-rooted. D.Heartfelt and multi-dimensional.
27.What is the main idea of the text
A.Animal protection is always on the way.
B.A friendship can go beyond boundaries.
C.Traveling a thousand miles makes a man.
D.Differences can be bridged with joint efforts.

Fancy letting a machine mediate (调解) your argument It could be the latest application for AI. Scientists at
Google’s DeepMind project designed what they call the Habermas Machine, a large language AI named after German
philosopher Jürgen Habermas.
The system works by taking written views of individuals within a group and using them to generate a set of group
statements designed to be acceptable to all. Group members can then rate these statements. The most popular statement is
then returned to participants to assess. Next, the AI mediation system generates revised statements, which participants
again rate. The system then selects the winning statement.
The team used the system in a series of experiments involving a total of more than 5,000 participants who
responded to various topics. The researchers found the initial group statement from the Habermas Machine was preferred
by participants 56% of the time over a group statement produced by human mediators.
Part of the model’s success, researchers say, lies in its determination to give special weight to dissenting opinion.
It was not the case that participants always switched opinion to support the majority view. Rather than siding with the
majority, it allowed minority voices to feel heard.
The AI mediation system “offers a new approach to collective deliberation (审 议 ) that avoids some of the
limitations of in-person deliberation, including its cost, limited scale, the potential for mediator bias.” the researchers
conclude. However, the AI mediation process may lack some of the benefits of in-person discussion, they write, such as
“nonverbal clues and the opportunity to build interpersonal relationships with other discussants.” Machine seldom offers
participants the chance to explain their feelings.
In addition, the researchers note that the AI mediation system could generate an ill-informed output if asked to
synthesize (合成) human opinions that are based on limited or biased information. Thus, the researchers conclude that if
their system is used in the real world, it should be “embedded in a larger deliberative process, including careful selection
of participants to ensure that a balanced and diverse community is represented in the debate.”
28.What is Habermas Machine aimed at
A.Simplifying rating system. B.Facilitating greater agreement.
C.Managing interpersonal conflict. D.Honouring the German philosopher.
29.What does the underlined word “dissenting” in paragraph 4 mean
A.Informed. B.Novel. C.Differing. D.Decisive.
30.What may be the disadvantage of the AI-mediated discussions
A.They lack shared collective wisdom.
B.They raise participants’ opportunity cost.
C.They fail to tap into participants’ potential.
D.They rarely promote empathy among participants.
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Risks of AI mediation. B.Future AI developments.
C.Tips on AI mediation use. D.Ethical concerns about AI.

Junk food is now a staple(主食) of many Americans' diets. Advertising campaigns from the snack food
companies, often featuring sports stars, send the message that we can neutralize any negative effects of consu
ming their products simply by getting more physical exercise. But recent studies show a lack of exercise is n
ot to blame for rising obesit rates. Bad diets are.
Interventions to help reduce junk food consumption are especially important for children and teena
gers. Prevention is better than cure because obesity is so difficult to treat. Sinfortunately, while health educat
ion has shown some success among young children, teens have been harder to reach.
Now a large-scale study has tried an innovative approach to change teenagers' attitudes towards healthy
eating, and the results are promising.)-The researchers argued that previous interventions have probably bee
n unsuccessful because of a major flaw: they focused on a future, healthier you and assumed that this would
be enough motivation for teenagers. In contrast, the new intervention cleverly exploits teenagers’ instinct for
rebelliousness and autonomy, and the value they place on social justice.
To do this, researchers had students read an article on the food industry. It revealed a secret about the m
anipulative and deceptive strategies used to make junk food more addictive and characterize the product
s as healthy. The article also explained how advertising campaigns specifically target very young and poor p
eople, causing harm for these vulnerable groups. Afterwards, the participants read a fictional survey of teens
who wanted to“fight back against the companies by buying and eating less processed food”.
After the intervention, participants associated healthy eating with autonomy and social justice. The teen
agers also rated healthy eating as being more appealing. Importantly, there were also some promising effects
of the new intervention on actual behavior. A day later the students were offered a choice of snacks and drin
ks in a seemingly unrelated context. The teens chose healthy snacks and drinks (such asfruit or water) more
often over unhealthy options (like biscuits and soda). Apparently associating a healthy diet with teenagers' o
wn values seems to be a promising avenue to prevent obesity.
32. What do we learn about advertising campaigns from the snack food companies
A. They convey the idea that their products are OK if consumers exercise more.
B. They send the message that bad diets are responsible for Americans obesity.
C. They usually feature sports stars to emphasize the benefits of their snack foods.
D. They claim that lack of exercise is to blame for the increasing obesity rates.
33. What does the passage say about health education
A. It has shed light on teens' instinct for rebellion and autonomy.
B. It has placed much more emphasis on aware than on prevention.
C. It has contributed little to the campaigns against obesity
D. It has largely failed to turn teens away from junk food.
34. In what way is the new intervention innovative
A. It emphasizes people's sense of social responsibility.
B. It cleverly exploits teenagers' personal weaknesses
C. It takes advantage of teenagers' natural inclination.
D. It promises immediate rather than future benefits.
35. What conclusion can be drawn from the new research
A. A totally different approach could be adopted to combat advertising campaigns for snack food.
B. An effective intervention has to be found to persuade teenagers to switch to a healthier lifestyle.
C. Obesity can be hopefully prevented by building links between teenagers' values and healthy eating.
D. An innovative way to beat obesity is to expose food companies' manipulative and deceptive practices.

" Come on Jeb, turn off that video game and take Suey out for a walk," Jeb's mother called from the liv
ing room.
" But Mom, I just started the game," Jeb replied unhappily.
" Getting some fresh air with Suey outside is better than sitting around and playing games," Mom insist
ed.
"I don't think so," Jeb mumbled, sinking deeper in his chair.
Disappointed, Jeb's mom sighed and said nothing more. It might have seemed selfish, but to be fair to J
eb, it was the weekend. He'd finished his morning math club and had already done a number of chores aroun
d the house. Couldn't Mom or Dad just take the dog out
As Jeb kept playing, he started feeling more and more annoyed. He thought it was because of the game,
but really, he was upset with himself. Shouldn't I just be able to relax in my own way Jeb thought. Then h
e realized Dad was already out buying groceries, and that his mom's arthritis made it hard-even dangerous-fo
r her to take the dog out.
He sighed, feeling the weight of responsibility settle over him. Reluctantly, Jeb turned off the game, sto
od up and called out," Alright, Mom, I' ll take Suey out!" His mom called back, her voice soft with gratitude.
" Thank you, Jeb. I appreciate it."
Jeb grabbed Suey's leash and whistled for the golden retriever. Suey bounded over, his tail waggin
g excitedly, and Jeb couldn't help but smile." Alright, boy, let's go for a walk!"
Outside, the fresh air cleared Jeb's mind. The sun was shining, and the neighborhood buzzed with life.
Suey ran eagerly, pulling Jeb along their usual route. Suey led him to the park, where a group of kids were pl
aying soccer. One boy tripped, and the ball rolled toward Jeb. Without thinking, he kicked it back-straight in
to the goal.

1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Para l: The kids cheered, and one yelled, " Wanna join "

作文第一节:
One possible version:
Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you my experience of shooting a short video on rural
revitalization.
Last weekend, my classmates and I went to a nearby town. We filmed the modern
greenhouses where farmers grew organic vegetables, the new rural library full of readers, and the
happy faces of villagers as they talked about their better lives.
This experience made me realize how much the countryside has changed. I’m proud of the
progress rural areas have made, and I’ve also learned the importance of recording and spreading
these heartwarming stories.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节参考:
Para l: The kids cheered, and one yelled, "Wanna join "
Jeb hesitated for a moment, glancing at Suey, who was happily sniffing around the edge of the
field. The boy who had tripped ran over, grinning. "We need one more player! We're
short-handed." Jeb looked at the ball, then at the eager faces. A smile spread across his face. "Sure,
why not " He handed Suey's leash to the boy's sister, who promised to watch him. Jeb jogged onto
the field, his earlier annoyance completely forgotten. For the next half hour, he laughed, ran, and
even scored a goal. The fresh air and exercise felt amazing, and he realized his mom was right—
this was way better than video games.
Para 2: "How was your walk " asked Mom when Jeb got back home with Suey.
Jeb, his face flushed and a wide smile on his face, kicked off his shoes. "It was awesome, Mom!"
he exclaimed, his voice full of energy. "We went to the park, and I ended up playing soccer with
some kids from school! Suey watched the whole time." He ruffled the dog's fur, who panted
happily. "I'm actually kind of tired now, but in a good way." His mom smiled, a look of quiet
satisfaction on her face. "I'm glad you went, Jeb. Sometimes, the best plans are the ones we don't
make ourselves." Jeb nodded, grabbing a glass of water. He knew she was right.
