Yang Ting, who changed from being a law graduate to a teacher, and finally to a businesswoman, is opening a Hanfu dressing and makeup store in the busy shopping street of the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City in Xi’an.
“People hardly talked about Hanfu several years ago,” said Yang, “They didn’t even know whether it meant clothes worn by the Han Chinese throughout history, or clothes specifically worn during the Han Dynasty.” The Hanfu clothes seen in her store are not exactly what ancient Han people once wore, and have been changed for easy wear. However, they play a positive role in helping people understand the authentic Hanfu shown at places like museums, which may not suit modern tastes and lifestyles.
In a conversation, Yang explained that the process of dressing up in Hanfu and having makeup done was not complicated (复杂的). It begins with selecting the desired style of clothing, followed by turning to makeup artists for the perfect look, which typically takes about an hour. The individualization of makeup and styling is based on the customer’s preferences and facial features. Yang said, “We provide many styles, meeting each individual’s preferences.”
The store has gained praise for its unique offerings, attracting visitors not only from different parts of China but also from countries such as South Korea, Russia and Nigeria. Yang recalled an example where visitors from Nigeria even live-streamed (网络直播) their experiences, introducing Hanfu to their audience. “For foreigners, Hanfu holds a mysterious attraction,” Yang said. “When we introduce different styles of clothing from different dynasties, they listen attentively, showing a great interest in traditional Chinese culture.”

Researchers completing one of the largest studies on the possible environmental influences of deep-sea mining (采矿) found a bit more than they expected on the ocean floor: 4,350 animals, each at least larger than 0.3 millimeters. From these, they finally found out 788 separate species (物种) of unique sea animals.
While the team found that harvesting minerals (矿物质) from over 13,000 feet below the ocean’s surface may not be quite as harmful as at first thought, the damages still cause serious concerns.
Despite being one of the most unwelcoming environments for humans on the planet, there is a rapidly growing business interest in the deepest parts of the sea. Unfortunately, this interest is frequently less about environmental protection and more about deep-sea mining.
One of the most attractive targets for deep sea mining is the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ). In addition to being rich in minerals, the CCZ is also one of the world’s least understood habitats (栖息地). In 2022, sea biologists mentioned the discovery of over 5,000 new species during research trips to the area.
With so much variety of living things left to explore, environmentalists have repeatedly voiced worries about the environmental influences of deep sea mining on areas like the CCZ. However, there is hardly any research into the topic.
“Important metals are needed for our green change and they are in short supply,” Dahlgren, study co-author, said. “Several of these metals are found in large numbers on the deep-sea floor, but until now, no one has shown how they can be taken out or what environmental influence this would have.”
To learn more about the possible effects, Dahlgren and his teammates surveyed a nearly 50 mile area of the CCZ. “Since most species have not been described before, molecular (分子的) data is very important in helping studies of biodiversity (生物多样性) and ecology on the seabed. So, there is a clear need for direct study of the influences of mining on the number of sea animals and biodiversity at the seafloor,” Dahlgren explained.

The world has been changing very quickly since the introduction of generative (生成的) artificial intelligence (AI). Generative AI now helps write stories, create art and answer questions, and it can even copy people’s voices. It’s being used in schools, offices, music and movies. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has updated its rules, saying films that use AI are now allowed to win awards. Simple daily tasks like taking a pencil, opening a book, or carrying a backpack became great challenges for him, which often made him feel sad.
When Scott learned about Jackson’s problem, he decided to do something to help. He didn’t tell Jackson or anyone else except his wife, keeping the project a secret. “I was worried that this task might be too hard for me,” Scott said. “I didn’t want to make him and his family hope for something that I couldn’t finish. I wanted to surprise him with a real solution, not empty promises.”
To make a better prosthetic hand, Scott spent much spare time researching and designing. He stayed up late for information, read articles on prosthetic technology, and even asked engineers worldwide for advice. He studied existing models and adjusted every detail to fit Jackson’s small hand.
At the school’s Back to School Bash, Scott showed Jackson his primary model and asked softly, “Would you like me to make one just for you ” Jackson was joyful, and with his mother’s permission, the project started. After months of work, an improved prosthetic hand was finished — light but strong, with soft foam inside for comfort, and working completely by mechanics, easy for Jackson to control.
