作文一:
A historical figure in China
Confucius, one of the most influential figures in Chinese history,
lived during the Spring and Autumn Period. He is widely acknowledged as an
exceptional philosopher and educator who dedicated his life to spreading wisdom and
moral teachings. Regardless of the numerous challenges and difficulties he faced he
insisted on travelling extensively across different regions, engaging with people from
all walks of life. Confucius’ ideas , have had a lasting impact on Chinese society and
culture strengthening the very foundation of Chinese civilization.
In conclusion, Confucius’ influence extends far beyond his own era. By carrying
forward his spirit and teachings, we can continue to build a more harmonious society.
作文二:
After a few minutes, the bird seemed to realize that we were not a threat. It began
to eat more freely, and we were able to get closer within arm’s reach. At this time, my
friend caught the bird quickly. The bird struggled in the hand, trying to fly away.
Gently, we examined its injury, and then we wrapped a soft cloth around the bird. We
decided to give up walking forward and take the bird home.
At home, we took good care of the bird. First, we cleaned the bird’s wound, and
then we provided it with food and water. Over the next few days, the bird’s trust in us
grew. As the bird’s wing healed, we knew that we would have to release it back into
the wild . On another fine day for hiking, we set the bird free at the same place where
we saved it. We cherished the bond we had formed. Our mountain adventure was a
reminder of the fine connection between humans and the natural world.

Text 1
M: Hey, Celia. I’m looking for a badminton partner. Barry had to pull out due to
injury. Do you want to join me
W: I wish I could, but I have a basketball practice. You should ask my brother Jim.
He plays badminton.
M: Great. Can you send me his number (1)
Text 2
M: Your cat is so cute.
W: Thanks. She’s honestly one of my best friends. Spending time with her always
makes me feel better when I’m not feeling well. But, on the negative side, I do
spend my life cleaning up cat hair around the house! (2)
Text 3
W: Bye! I’ll see you tomorrow!
M: Oh, are you going home early
W: Not really. I have a medical appointment in the city. So, I thought I might as
well take the afternoon off and go Christmas shopping straight once I’m
finished at the doctor’s office. (3)
Text 4
M: Have you uploaded your profile on the jobs website yet
W: Not yet. I’m not sure what to include since I don’t have much work experience.
M: As well as your high school grades, you should include any after-school
activity and volunteer work you did. (4)
Text 5
M: I’d love to try many dishes from around China.
W: You mean traveling around China to eat at amazing restaurants
M: Yes. Chinese dishes are different in the country’s many specific regions. That
makes Chinese food culture so famous and remarkable! (5)
Text 6
M: I’d love to play a traditional Chinese instrument, but I don’t know what to choose.
W: It depends on how ambitious you are. Erhu, or “the Chinese violin”, is very
difficult to play well. But other instruments, such as xun and Chinese drum, are
pretty easy for beginners.
M: Maybe something in the middle I’m not particularly musical. Thus I’m not
aiming at the top. But I’m always willing to work hard. (6)
W: What about the bawu It’s great for beginners, but it becomes more
challenging as you progress. (7)
M: Sounds perfect!

W: This film reminds me of you.
M: What Are you joking It’s a film about an out-of-control robot hoping to hurt
humans! How does that remind you of me
W: Because you took me to the cinema to watch it when we first met. Do you
remember that
M: Ah, yes, you were so scared that we had to leave before the end. I was really
mad because I really wanted to know the ending. (9)
W: Well, you can watch that part now. It’s coming up. (9)
M: No, I’ll turn it off. Now, I see why you insisted on leaving the cinema. I don’t
want to have bad dreams. (9) Besides, we’re running late. We need to leave for
the restaurant now if we’re going to get there in time.
Text 8
W: Excuse me, is anybody sitting here (10)
M: No. Sorry. Let me move my bag. (10)
W: Thanks! Wow, this subway is really packed!
M: Yeah…They are always busier on match days.
W: Oh, right. I should have realized it when I saw so many people wearing football
shirts! Is there an important game today (11)
M: Right. (11) Though, I’m more of a basketball fan.
W: Ha-ha! I know nothing about sports. I sometimes watch the tennis in the summer,
but that’s it!
M: Are you going far today
W: I’m going shopping on Oxford Street. What about you
M: I’m off to visit some friends in Brighton, so I’ve got to get to the train station.
(12) I’ll probably get a taxi after I get off the subway, I suppose. Unless I can find
a bus.
W: Oh, you don’t need to do that. The train station is only a five-minute walk from
Euston Station. You can just get off there. (12)
M: That’s great! (12)
Text 9
M: Wow, I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of the school year.
W: I know… July is only a month away! (13)
M: Do you have any cool plans for the summer holidays (14)
W: Not really. My parents are going to Spain for a couple of weeks in August, but I’m
staying behind. I’ve organized myself a summer job, waiting tables at a pizza
house. (14)
M: Oh, the place in town They have great coffee!
W: Yeah. It won’t be as fun as relaxing by the pool in Spain! But the idea is to raise
money for college. Are you still working at the local cinema (15)
M: Yeah. I’ll probably take on a few more hours there. I plan to live with my
friends from next semester, so at least I have to be able to afford my room
before that. (15) Otherwise, I’ll probably just hang out with friends and try to get
through our summer reading list!
W: I see. Many students do that on their third or fourth year of university. (16)
Seriously,Mrs. Tyler has given us a lot of books! (16)
M: She has. But they all look pretty interesting. (16)
W: Yes. She understands that learning should be enjoyable…particularly reading.

Worldwide, around 70 countries use the “Daylight Saving Time” system, known
as DST. (17) Every year, clocks “spring forward” an hour in March and “fall back”
each autumn. The idea dates back to 1902, when William Willet, a British builder
suggested changing the clocks to prevent the nation from wasting daylight. In 1916,
one year after Willet died, the German government took up his idea to save money
during World War I. (17) Here in America, DST didn’t properly take effect
countrywide until 1966 when the dates were agreed. This was because many
states had developed different rules about when DST started and when DST
ended. (18) However, the practice has often been unpopular, and many believe it
should end. The main argument against DST is its effect on health and safety.
Losing an hour’s sleep in spring seems to raise the risk of heart attacks and
mental health problems. (19) However, supporters say it has a positive health and
safety effect. Lighter evenings reduce crime and accidents and encourage more active
lifestyles. I believe we should use DST year-round. This would avoid the negative
effects of sudden time changes, while keeping all the benefits of the extra daylight.

Building with 3D printing technology is sparking widespread interest in the construction
industry. Besides reducing waste and our impact on the environment, it can speed up construction
from weeks, or months, to days. To see how the technology can change the world around us, here are
some projects that highlight bold ideas in 3D print building.
Instant Neighborhood
Community building takes on new meaning with the creation of a neighborhood of 3D printed
homes in Tabasco, Mexico, aimed at tackling global homelessness. American non-profit New Story
and tech company ICON built each concrete house from start to completion in 24 hours. New Story
says its aim is to provide shelter for people without homes around the world.
Nested Housing
Shamballa is the idea of Italian 3D print construction company WASP. This project uses soil and
straw to build a home in days that cost only 48 Euros in materials and energy. Its round designs are
based on the wasp (黄蜂 ) nest. Each home features a laboratory with a desktop 3D printer for
making furniture, artistic objects and more.
Think Schools
African island state Madagascar is hosting one of the world’s most forward-thinking school
building projects. Non-profit Thinking Huts is using 3D print technology to provide schools where
children have little or no access to education. Schools are built using local materials and low carbon
concrete in under a week.
Concrete Steps
Researchers at the Swiss University ETH Zurich used concrete 3D printing to build the 16 metre
long curved Striatus footbridge in a couple of days. The project used 500 layers of concrete and 53
hollow blocks, held in place by compression (压缩). This reduces materials by up to 70 per cent, and
the entire bridge can be pulled down and recycled.
21. What could be the inspiration behind the design of Nested Housing
A. A featured laboratory. B. A forward-thinking school.
C. A round wasp nest. D. A long stone bridge.
22. Which 3D construction project can be torn down and reused
A. Instant Neighborhood. B. Concrete Steps.
C. Think School. D. Nested Housing.
23. What do these four 3D building projects have in common
A. They use local materials. B. They make construction faster.
C. They are affordable to the homeless. D. They are high in cost.

Alvin, 66, was deep in the woods in Louisiana, last December when a broken balloon caught his
eye. Attached was a piece of paper decorated with sparkly star stickers. It read “Dear Santa, my
name is Luna. I am four years old. I live in Liberal, Kansas. This year I have been nice. I would like
candy, Spider-Man ball, Frozen doll, puppy. With love, Luna.”
Alvin’s heart hammered in his chest. Ever since he was a child, he had dreamed of this very
scene. He believed this was his childhood wish coming true. And he decided to make Luna’s wish
come true too. So he posted the Christmas list on his Facebook page, asking for help to locate the
sender.
Meanwhile, Leticia, the mother of four-year-old Luna, had no idea that such an effort was
underway. It had been a hard year for them. On a particularly tough day last December, Leticia told
Luna to send her wishes to Santa by balloon. The girl was excited. Leticia helped her write down her
wishes, put the note into a Christmas red balloon and took her out to release her wishes on the chilly
windy morning.
One day in January, a friend called Leticia, “Someone found Luna’s balloon.” Her jaw dropped.
Then she logged on to Facebook and saw Alvin’s post and more netizens trying to help. Leticia was
deeply touched and called Alvin. When Alvin told her how much it would mean to him to fulfill the
girl’s wishes, she agreed to let him meet Luna. Back in Louisiana, Alvin got busy collecting toys
from his new-found Facebook community.
On a morning in April, just as chilly and windy as the day when Luna waved goodbye to her
balloon, Alvin made a trip to their house. He presented all the gifts, including a puppy. Luna cried
with delight. Later, they sat down together to share home-made breakfast. They all felt as if they had
known each other forever. Having received so much generosity, Leticia and Luna expressed their
gratitude and intended to pay it forward.
24.What did Alvin find in the woods
A.A wish note of a child. B.A balloon made of paper.
C.A picture of sparkly stars. D.A shopping list for Christmas.
25.How did Alvin feel after he read Luna’s words
A.Nervous and moved. B.Thrilled and joyful.
C.Surprised and stressful. D.Sympathetic and concerned.
26.Why did Luna’s mother ask her to release her balloon
A.To send a message to Santa. B.To ask the community for help.
C.To give her hope on a tough day. D.To attract the netizens’ attention.
27.What message does the story intend to convey
A.Time reveals a person’s character. B.Where there is a will, there is a way.
C.God helps those who help themselves. D.Life is hard, but the world is full of love.

Today, poetry and science are often considered to be mutually exclusive (互相排斥) career paths.
But that wasn’t always the case. The mathematician Ada Lovelace and the physicist James Clerk
Maxwell were both accomplished poets. The poet John Keats was a licensed surgeon. Combining the
two practices fell out of favor in the 1800s. But translating research into lyrics, haiku, and other
poetic forms is reappearing among scientists as they look for alternative ways to inspire others with
their findings.
“Poetry is a great tool for questioning the world,” says Sam Illingworth, a poet and a geoscientist
who works at the University of Western Australia. Through workshops and a new science-poetry
journal, called Consilience, Illingworth is helping scientists to translate their latest results into poems
that can attract appreciation from those outside of their immediate scientific field.
Stephany Mazon, a scientist from the University of Helsinki in Finland, joined one of
Illingworth’s workshops. In the workshop, she was grouped with other scientists and tasked with
writing a haiku, a 17-syllable-long poem, which spotlighted water, a fluid that featured in all of the
group members’ research projects. “It was a lot of fun, and surprisingly easy to write the poem,”
Mazon says. She plans to continue writing. “We do a disservice (伤害 ) to ourselves to think that
scientists can’t be artistic and that art can’t be used to communicate scientific ideas,” Mazon says.
That viewpoint is echoed by Illingworth, who thinks current science communication initiatives
rely too often on public lectures with their hands-off PowerPoint slides. “Actually, when science
communication involves writing and sharing poems, it invites a two-way dialogue between experts
and nonexperts,” he says. Scientist-poet Manjula Silva, an educator at Imperial College London,
agrees. Poetry provides a way to translate complex scientific concepts into a language that everyone
can understand, Silva says.
Scientists and poets are both trying to understand the world and communicate that understanding
with others. The gap between scientists and poets is less than people might think. We’re all just
people with hopefully really interesting things to say and to share.
28. What is the purpose of mentioning the famous people in paragraph 1
A. To display they were talented. B. To confirm they were out of favor.
C. To encourage different career paths. D. To show poetry and science can be combined.
29. What are Illingworth’s workshops aimed to do
A. Promote a new science-poetry journal.
B. Inspire outsiders to pursue their careers in science.
C. Encourage science communication through poems.
D. Get scientists to exchange ideas about the latest research.
30. What does Illingworth think of the present ways of science communication
A. Complex. B. Creative. C. Effective. D. Traditional
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Scientists Take on Poetry B. Scientists and Poets Think Alike
C. Poetry: A Great Tool to Question the World D. Science Communication: A Two-way
Dialogue
D
I remember that a singer on television once said, “If it feels good, do it.” From schools to
workplaces, we are told that ordinary negative emotions and experiences—fear of failure or sadness
over a break-up, maybe—should be treated or removed. Feeling bad is bad.
This is wrong, as was the singer’s motto. I don’t believe that eradicating bad feelings is the path
to a good life. We have an opportunity here to judge the benefits of negative emotions and
experiences instead of trying to push them away.
Negative emotions exist to keep us safe. The main negative emotions include sadness, anger,
fear and disgust (厌恶). We experienced them in an unconscious way in response to environmental
stimuli (刺激). You never say to yourself, “Hey, I think I’ll feel afraid now.”—you just feel it and
react with fight or flight, which can save your life. Disgust similarly warns us unconsciously of
potential illness.
Negative emotions can also make us more effective in our day-to-day activities. In an article in
the journal Psychological Review, two evolutionary psychologists argue that sadness—and even
depression—have existed in the face of evolution (进化 ) because they bring cognitive benefits.
Sadness can make us more productive at work by improving focus and helping us learn from
mistakes. This is how failure, by means of the resulting negative emotions, can help lead to later
success.
Finally, negative emotions make us stronger for when there is a true emergency. Research
shows that “stress vaccination training”—in which people learn to cope with anger, fear and anxiety
by being brought up to stimuli that cause these feelings—is effective in creating emotional toughness.
In sum, if we want a life full of deep meaning, true love, and emotional strength, it’s going to
involve the risk of discomfort, fight and loss. This means there will be sadness, fear, anger and
disgust. If we remove negative emotions and experiences from our lives, we will be poorer and
weaker for having done so.
32.How does the author introduce the topic
A.By showing a social phenomenon. B.By explaining a specific concept.
C.By creating a related situation. D.By stating a common belief.
33.What is the meaning of the underlined word “eradicating” in Paragraph 2
A.Stirring up. B.Focusing on. C.Getting rid of. D.Keeping track of.
34.According to the author, why is failure the mother of success
A.Negative emotions help us work effectively. B.Negative emotions give us stronger hearts.
C.Failure gives us a true sense of crisis. D.Failure results from mistakes.
35.Which is this passage mainly about
A.Why feeling bad is bad. B.How to achieve a meaningful life.
C.How to deal with negative emotions. D.Why negative emotions are necessary.

Tablescapes (桌面景观) are creatively designed table arrangements or decorations for the centre
of a table, which show or highlight a specific object or collection. Usually, it’s dinner tables that are
transformed into tablescapes. 36.
Tablescaping allows people to express their creativity by adding a personal touch. This is often
achieved through the use of valuable collections or specialized themes. 37. Themes can be
based upon a particular event, season, hobby, or collection. Finding a suitable theme for tablescape
displays depends on personal preference as well as the style of its surroundings.
38. Each item within a tablescape relates to other elements around it. While the
objects in tablescapes do not necessarily have to match perfectly, they should stay in harmony with
each other or make each other more attractive.
When it comes to organizing the selected objects for tablescapes, the easiest method is to think
in terms of levels. 39. The other relatively unimportant ones include the spaces both above
and below the table. Including similar or repeated items in all of these levels will help pull
everything together.
When the appropriate tablescape design is carried out, the surrounding area should fit in. The
highlighted table arrangement should stand out in a pleasing manner rather than looking like a mess.
As everyone’s view can be different, not all tablescapes will hold the same appeal. 40. It’ll
create a comfortable appearance regardless of someone else’s personal taste.
A.But items like bookshelves can also make it.
B.The most important level is the tabletop itself.
C.Tablescapes normally have three different levels.
D.That’s why balance and harmony are so important.
E.Once a theme is chosen, collect proper related items.
F.Themes are especially important when people are designing tablescapes.
G.However, maintaining a balance within the tablescape theme is necessary.

On a bright, sunny day, my friend and I decided to have a hike up the nearby mountain. The
weather was fine, with a gentle breeze and a clear blue sky overhead. We were having a great time in
nature, looking at all the green plants and colourful flowers around us. As we climbed higher, we
chatted about our plans for the future and shared laughter at our shared memories.
Suddenly, we heard a weak sound coming from a nearby bush. Curious, we approached as
quietly as a mouse and discovered a small bird with an injured wing. It was clear that the bird was in
trouble, and we really wanted to help. However, every time we tried to approach the bird, it would
fly away in fear, staying away from us.
Deciding to save the little bird, my friend had an idea. He reached into his backpack and pulled
out a small piece of fruit and bread that he had packed for our hike. Gently, he placed the foods near
the bush, hoping they would get the bird to come closer.
At first, the bird remained careful, its eyes darting (瞥 ) between us and the foods. Slowly,
hunger seemed to overcome its fear, and it hopped towards the foods, carefully pecking at (啄食) the
foods. My friend and I stayed very still, not wanting to frighten it away again.
注意:续写词数应为 150个左右。
After a few minutes, the bird seemed to realize that we were not a threat. _________________
