NeSmith and Maxwell are longtime residents (居民 ) of Oglethorpe County, Georgia, and
they have known each other for almost 50 years. In 2021 Maxwell called NeSmith to let him know
that because of health problems, he would be closing his weekly newspaper, The Oglethorpe Echo.
NeSmith decided to prevent the nearly 150yearold local newspaper from being forgotten.
NeSmith remembered waking up at 6 am after that phone call. He jumped into his truck and
drove to The Echo offices. Upon arriving, he suggested that his friend think of a new solution.
“Well, what are we going to do ” Maxwell asked him. “Are you going to buy the newspaper ”
NeSmith looked up, searching for an answer. Then, a sudden idea hit him.
He would create an organization and Maxwell would donate The Echo to it. After leaving the
office, NeSmith called Charles Davis, director of the University of Georgia's Grady College.
“I've got an idea,” NeSmith told him. “I want to turn The Echo into a reallife experience for
students at Grady College who want to be reporters.” Davis loved the idea, and he and NeSmith
developed a course with The Echo as its foundation. Students could experience a working
newsroom which would act as a stepping stone into their careers.
Of course, they needed someone to run the newspaper. Then Andy Johnston, who had been
teaching at Grady for a month, appeared. “I believe in the project. We've heard about other
newspapers closing, especially in rural counties,” Johnston said. “When that happens, it means
their only source of news and the only thing that holds people together is closing.”
Johnston teamed up with Amanda Bright, who taught the course. Bright, a community
reporter, helped create new digital platforms for The Echo, including an email newsletter and a
website.
The Echo also ran on a team of 12 volunteers that worked at the main office. The reason why
The Echo was able to continue is that everyone worked together—the students, Grady College,
NeSmith, Maxwell, and the residents of Oglethorpe County.
24. For what purpose did Maxwell call NeSmith

B. Chances to study famous newspapers.
C. Donations to continue their education.
D. Work experience as a reporter.
26. Why does Johnston place importance on The Echo
A. It has a long history.
B. It unites the local people.
C. It offers fun to natives.
D. It is owned by his family.
27. What is the best title for the text
A. Newspapers are dying
B. Friends help out a man in need
C. A county saves a newspaper
D. A project breathes new life into a county

Many children try to make their parents proud. But in some families, a child's success is
always “on show”. Parents want praise from others, and the child may feel like a performer, not a
person.
The term “peacock parenting” comes from the idea of being “as proud as a peacock”. Here it
means a self-centered style of parenting. A peacock parent may show off a “perfect family” in
public, yet criticize the child behind closed doors when the child fails to meet high expectations.
Over time, the child may fear that love is conditional. They may hide their real feelings, exploring
their own interests, and start to believe, “I am not worthy.”
Experts describe three common signs. The first is psychological control. When the child sets
a boundary or feels upset, the parent may say, “You're too sensitive,” and turn the blame back onto
the child. This often creates a sense of guilt. The second is unpredictable mood swings. The parent
can be warm one day and cold the next, making the child feel like they are “walking on eggshells”.
In adulthood, this may lead to people pleasing and weak boundaries. The third is role reversal(颠
倒). Some parents fail to provide proper care and attention, or even expect their child to look after
them emotionally or physically. As a result, the child may grow up too fast and miss out on a
normal childhood.
Healing takes time, but it is possible. The first step is to be kinder to yourself and reconnect
with your own interests. Supportive friends, groups, or professional help can provide the care that
was previously missing. Clear boundaries can also make a relationship safer, and if contact
continues to cause harm, limiting contact may be necessary. After all, there are many places to
find warmth, and not all of them are under a parent's roof.
28. What is the purpose of paragraph 1
A. To raise an issue.
B. To describe a study.
C. To explain the causes.
D. To offer the solutions.
29. What does “peacock parenting” in paragraph 2 mainly focus on
A. Independent growth.
B. Unconditional love.
C. Public approval.
D. Honest self-expression.
30. Which sign best matches “role reversal” in paragraph 3
A. The parent praises the child in public.
B. The child tries to win others' approval.
C. The child avoids setting any boundaries.
D. The parent relies on the child for support.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Support exists beyond the family.
B. Selfcare is the final step.
C. Healing requires parental effort.
D. Distance ensures safety.
D
If you use the internet, you've probably heard of a filter bubble (过滤气泡). Internet sites and
social media platforms use algorithms (算法 ) that show you content based on your previous
interactions, likes, and shares. Over time, this creates a filter bubble where you only see content
that agrees with your interests and belief, which serves to convince you that your belief is true.
But what you might not know is that in similar fashion, your brain has several mechanisms to
filter information, creating personal filter bubbles that deeply shape how you live your life.
Self-created filter bubbles happen through various cognitive processes, and they have
multiple consequences. They shape your experience of what's happening by forming a lens (镜片)
through which you see and interpret the world. On the internet, because things are being presented
based on past user history, no two people get the same results when they search for something on
the internet or open their news feed. In real life, no two people are experiencing an event or seeing
a situation in the exact same way, because we all bring our own past experiences and biases (偏见)
to situations, causing us to process them differently.
Filter bubbles can cause you to stay stuck in self-created and often self-limiting patterns of
thought and behavior. If you've ever wondered why change is so hard, it's because your mental
filter bubbles make it difficult to see different possibilities. If you hold the belief that you're not
someone who can have a high-paying job, you won't look for one and you'll only seek out and see
jobs that match up with what you think you're worth.
Filter bubbles can also prevent critical thinking and can lead to a limited and biased view of
the world, where people don't consider alternative viewpoints and don't engage with others outside
of their own circles. When we only consume information that confirms our preexisting belief and
values, we don't question the truth of that information or properly evaluate the evidence.
While you can't prevent your brain from creating selective filter bubbles, you can become more
aware so that you don't have to be limited or trapped by them.
32. What can we learn about self-created filter bubbles in paragraph 2
A. They have changed the way we view ourselves.
B. They shape our interpretations of the world.
C. They are frequent occurrences and have little effect on us.
D. They assist us in making friends with likeminded individuals.
33. How do filter bubbles impact individuals' ability to embrace change
A. They facilitate open-mindedness and flexibility.
B. They help individuals adapt quickly to new situations.
C. They limit people's ability to consider different chances.
D. They prevent individuals from successfully securing a job.
34. What might the author continue talking about
A. Ways of escaping from filter bubbles.
B. Barriers to overcoming filter bubbles.
C. Examples of creating filter bubbles.
D. Benefits of recognizing filter bubbles.
35. What does the text mainly talk about
A. The dangers of bias in information consumption.
B. The influence of past experiences on our world view.
C. The benefits of social media algorithms on our mind.
D. The impact of filter bubbles on shaping our perception.

Getting along with people can be tough. 36 .
Accept human nature.
Humans make mistakes. People aren't always nice. They also have all of the problems that you
have in your life. 37 This is important to remember when you're trying to get
along with people who are very difficult or seem to be ignoring you; everyone is just doing the
best that they can.
. 38 .
People are all very different: that's what makes life interesting. And just like people are all
different, the world is also very complex. Every situation is different, always. Just because
someone doesn't make the choice that you would make or just because they take a less efficient or
smart path to get where they're going, it doesn't make them wrong.
Practice forgiveness.
. 39 . Sometimes you just have to stop and give people the benefit of the
doubt (to believe someone even though you are not sure whether what the person is saying is true).
They might really be sorry or they might really not know that what they did was bad. You have to
forgive them so that you can move on to happier feelings.
Do something together.
. 40 .You can work together on a project for school or work. You can also try a
new activity together. These activities will give you more to talk about and lots of chances to
interact and get to know each other.
A. Think about what your words really say.
B. Everyone is dealing with their own set of problems.
C. Forgive people when they do make mistakes.
D. Respect that there are lots of reasonable choices.
E. Doing things together is a great way to bond with people and make friends.
F. The following are some suggestions that can help you in some way.
G. Even when someone's making you mad, thank them for their effort to help or their suggestions.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“What is your name ” is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time.
But for me, it was the first challenge I encountered as an international student in Ireland.
The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English. For
native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name
Qiuyu (秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them. Every time I gave
a selfintroduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still
could not say it the way I did.
Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of
thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should correct him or simply drop the matter. I
feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all,
I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn't stop, the entire lecture
would be ruined. “It's okay, professor,” I shrugged (耸肩). The awkward moment ended with the
class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
After that incident, I stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher”. Instead of correcting others when
they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach
spared me the discomfort of having to overexplain. However, I soon found that by doing so, I
might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural
identity.
注意:(1)续写词数应为 150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name.

Dear fellow students,
With the development of modern industry, the environment is becoming increasingly worse.
It's high time that we should take measures, or we would have nowhere to live. We students can
protect our environment by living a low-carbon life
Firstly, do turn off lights and other switches when not using them to save electricity. What's
more, if we go out, we should walk, ride or take public transport instead of driving. Finally,
reusing paper and bottles in our daily life is also highly recommended.
Let's make joint efforts to create a green and harmonious environment. I strongly believe that
a better world owes to the commitment and dedication of everyone.

第二节
Paragraph 1:In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name Taking a deep
breath, I stood up, my heart pounding. This was my chance. “Qiu yu means 'autumn rain’ in
Chinese,” I began, my voice slightly trembling. “Autumn is a season of harvest and reflection,
while rain symbolizes nourishment and peace. My parents named me so, hoping I could bring
calmness and growth to others.” No laughter erupted this time-instead, there were nods of
understanding. I realized that correcting pronunciation wasn't the point; sharing the story behind
my name was the key to bridging cultures.
Paragraph 2: Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class “Qiu yu," one of
them tried, pronouncing it carefully and much more accurately thistime. “ It'’ s a beautiful name."
Another asked about the poetry behind it. We spent the next hour exchanging stories about names
and traditions, For the first time, I felt a deep sense of pride, My name was not a barrier, but a
story waiting to be told. That day, I learned that true communication is not about finding an easy
name, but about bravely sharing the beautiful story behind it. From then on, I was no longer Rain,
but Qiu yu.
