in China. In 1993, he happened to watch Beijing Opera performed in London by professionals from Beijing Jingju
Theatre Company. Ghaffar said he fell in love with the beautiful voices, colorful costumes, and excellent shows. So,
after one year, he arrived in China alone and became a student of Beijing Opera at a Beijing school.
At the age of 32, he had to learn with teenage students every day, starting from the most basic training of the legs
and waist (腰). At the time, he was mostly troubled by the dialogue in Beijing Opera, which was the biggest obstacle
for him. But he never gave up.
Four years later, he began to learn to perform the Monkey King, a traditional character from the Chinese classic
story Journey to the West. He said he arrived in the workroom an hour earlier than other performers and also bought
books and CDs to better understand the character.

States, Britain, and other countries. When he found that the language was difficult to understand, he started to translate
Beijing Opera song lyrics. Ghaffar led a group of actors to perform 66 times in a month and a half in the United States.

In most films about space, whenever Earth faces a disaster, the solution is always running away from the planet
in spaceships or expecting one or a group of superheroes to save it in the end. But the latest Chinese science fiction
(sci-fi) movie, The Wandering Earth II ( 《流浪地球 2》 ) , offers a different and greater idea. In the film, based on a
short story by Chinese sci-fi writer Liu Cixin, Earth is in danger of being destroyed (摧 毁) by the dying sun. Facing
the very danger, humans around the world work together to build a huge engine system that will push Earth away from
the sun. Instead of simply leaving Earth behind, we’re taking it with us.
After The Wandering Earth I, the Wandering Earth II also achieved great success. It becomes a symbol of a new
era (时代) in Chinese film making. During the spring festival last year, lots of people got out of their homes and enjoy
the movies. The “ambition” of the sci-fi film, however, didn’t come from nowhere. For thousands of years, “homeland”
has been the softest part in most Chinese people’s mind. One old saying is luoyeguigen, which means returning to one’s
homeland in old age, like fallen leaves returning to the roots (根) of their tree. Or as an ancient poem reads, “The
season called the White Dew begins tonight/Nowhere as in our native place is the moon so bright.” This special cultural
background is probably what makes this movie different from Hollywood-style space films.
And the movie makers have chosen the best time to tell its Chinese sci-fi story. The film was on Jan 22, the first

day of Chinese New Year. It was a time when many people had just made the hard journey back to their hometowns. So
to them, there is only one possible way to tell the story: Earth goes wherever humans go, ★ .
The director of the movie, Guo Fan, said, “China’s rapid development in recent years has also allowed.
Fertile (肥沃的) soil for the scientific films to grow. We hope that the soil will produce more amazing fruits of
Chinese sci-fi film making in the near future. “

She is a student form Hebei. She was doing her part-time job in a different city when her family got her admission

37 For example, they are all strong and optimistic (乐观的). Li Enhui said in an interview, “As long as

Such an idea makes many adults feel embarrassed. He refused to accept donation money and decided to make money

For them, few can choose their lifestyles. 40 That’s why they are highly praised. Every one of us should

76.例文 How to be a better teenager
Hello, everyone! Today I’d like to share my ideas about how to be a better teenager.
First, we should develop healthy living habits. We should go to bed early and get up early, keep doing exercise every
day and avoid eating too much junk food, which is bad for our health. Second, we need to make clear plans for our study and
take action actively. Third, be kind to others and help them when they are in trouble. Besides, it’s important to take up
hobbies, such as reading or playing sports. Joining volunteer activities is also a good way to grow. What’s more, just as the
ancient saying tells us, we should often check what we have done and find our shortcomings to improve. Let’s work hard to
become better!
Thank you!
