二、阅读(共两节,满分 29分)

阅读下列短文,从各题所给的 A、B、C和 D项中选出最佳选项。

In ancient China, there were “four treasures of the study”—the writing brush, ink, paper, and the inkstone.
Among all the inkstones, the Chengni inkstone was one of the most famous and was widely loved.
The Chengni inkstone first appeared during the Western Han Dynasty, but the skills of making it were lost
during the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. Thankfully, today the traditional skills have been revived
with the help of Lin Yongmao and his son Lin Tao.
In 1984, Lin Yongmao began working at the museum in Xinjiang County, Shanxi Province. There he read
some books about the Xinjiang Chengni inkstone, and then decided to revive the lost skills.
It was easier said than done. It took the father and son two years to find the right materials to make the
Chengni inkstone. That was just the first step. After failing many times, they finally made two perfect Chengni
inkstones in 1991. Three years later, their Chengni inkstones won a gold prize at an expo on China’s famous
inkstones.
But the father and son did not stop there. While improving the skills of making the Chengni inkstone, they set
up a workshop in the hope of passing the skills on to young people. They also worked with universities and
colleges to make the Chengni inkstone more popular. At the same time, Lin Tao has created special Chengni
inkstone products and brought them to competitions at home and other countries to expand the influence of the
Chengni inkstone.

I’m Caroline. I walked into Renewal after a long day at work. I’d been “going” all day—stressing about a new
project, scheduling meetings—everything with the goal of crossing tasks off my to-do list. My final “to-do” of the
day was my first acupuncture (针灸) treatment. I kept asking myself: Where would the needles go Would they
hurt How long would it take Did this treatment really fit into my schedule
Since it was my first appointment, the acupuncturist Tessa and I talked about my medical history, health
concerns, and how acupuncture might help. Previously, several things had come to mind when I thought about
acupuncture: various friends who tried it to help with pain.
Fortunately, I didn’t feel pain, but I learned that acupuncture may still help me with my mental health. I
explained to Tessa that I struggle with managing anxiety during stressful situations, and sometimes even when there’
s no direct cause.
After we talked, I lay down as Tessa explained how she’d begin the treatment. The placement of each needle
has its purpose rooted in Chinese medicine: from the top of my head, down my arms, and on my feet. My questions
from before were all answered, even though I had already forgotten them. After all the needles had been placed,
Tessa left the room for the rest of my session and came back to check on me occasionally. I almost fell asleep and
found that the process ate away my previous fear.
After my treatment, my mind felt clear. My weekly to-do list was back on my mind, but seemed far less
frightening. I felt inspired to consider everything I could do to keep both my mind and body healthy. It’s one thing
to know about the importance of self-care, but another to really believe in it. Now I think I’m on my way.
25. How did Caroline feel before the first acupuncture treatment
第 4页/共 18页
A. Puzzled but cheerful. B. Exhausted but happy.
C. Worried and restless. D. Upset and stressed.
26. Why did Caroline mention her friends in Paragraph 2
A. To show the acupuncture’s popularity.
B. To prove the acupuncture’s effectiveness.
C. To show her former impression of acupuncture.
D. To share their unique experiences of acupuncture.
27. What do we know about Caroline during the treatment
A. She failed to remove former worries. B. She was asleep all the way.
C. She fell asleep at the beginning of it. D. She slowly dealt with her anxiety.
28. What does Caroline’s experience show
A. Think twice before you act. B. Where there is a will, there is a way.
C. Slow and steady wins the race. D. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Are you an open book, your face showing every passing emotion, or more of a poker face, not showing what
you are feeling Scientists at Nottingham Trent University say that wearing your heart on your face, could actually
give you a significant social advantage.
The study, led by Eithne Kavanagh, a researcher at NTU’s School of Social Sciences, involving over 1,300
participants, noticed striking differences in how much people moved their faces during conversations. Importantly,
these expressions appeared as a stable personal quality. People displayed similar levels of facial expressions across
different contexts, with different social partners, and even over time periods up to four months.
The researchers say that facial expressions are connected with personality, with more agreeable persons
displaying more lively faces. Facial expressions can also turn into real social benefits. In a negotiation task, more
expressive people are more likely to get a larger slice of a reward. The researchers suggest that for agreeable folks,
dynamic facial expressions may serve as a tool for building good relationships and smoothing over conflicts.
Across the board, the results point to facial expressions serving an “affiliative (亲和的) function,” or a social glue
that develops liking and smoother interactions.
Expressions are also connected with being seen as more “readable,” suggesting that a lively face makes one’s
intentions and mental states easier for others to decipher. Beyond frequency of facial movements, people who use
facial expressions more strategically to suit social goals, such as looking friendly in a greeting, are also more

well-liked.
The findings challenge the “poker face” common belief that a still and unemotional appearance is always most
advantageous. Instead, they suggest that for most people, allowing one’s face to mirror inner states and intentions
can invite warmer reactions. As the researchers conclude, “Being facially expressive is socially advantageous.” So,
the next time you catch yourself making lines on your forehead, or flashing a smile, know that your face just might
be working overtime on your behalf.
29. What does Paragraph 2 mainly focus on in the study
A. Its impact. B. Its findings. C. Its limitations. D. Its significance.
30. What may facial expressions serve as in negotiation settings
A. A way to frighten competitors. B. A method to hide personalities.
C. A tool to show personal quality. D. A strategy to settle disagreement.
31. What does the underlined word “decipher” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. To interpret. B. To overlook. C. To remember. D. To copy.
32. What may the author advise based on the findings of the study
A. Always wearing a still face. B. Learning to be an open book.
C. Speaking out inner emotions. D. Forcing a smile through tears.

Position
Always stand facing your audience directly. ____34____ And try not to look down at your notes too often.
Just look at your notes quickly if you have to. This helps you stay in touch with the people listening and shows you’
re actively communicating with them.

Be mindful of unnecessary movements. Don’t touch your hair, nose, or play with pens—these habits can
distract your audience. Keep your arms relaxed at your sides. At first, this might feel unnatural, but it makes you
appear more in control. Also, don’t cross your arms or put your hands in your pockets. ____35____
Posture

“No print, no year” is a well-known saying in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. The “print” here means Taohuawu
Woodblock (木版) New Year Prints, a special kind of nianhua, or New Year pictures. It has been over 20 years
since one of its inheritors, Sun Yibo, has worked on Taohuawu prints.
“Though it is generally seen as a kind of nianhua, Taohuawu Prints not only show the traditional pictures, such
as menshen (door gods), flowers and birds,” said Sun. “To keep the traditional craft alive, artists now also choose
themes from popular culture, like games and films. “
Such rich themes also mean difficult steps. To make a woodblock New Year picture, firstly, artists need to
make a rough drawing. And then they carve it on different blocks. The last step is to make the prints one by one on
paper. “Each woodblock New Year picture follows the ‘one color on one carved block’ rule and is made with the
colors printed on top of each other,” explained Sun. “How many blocks are needed for a picture It depends on how
many colors there are in the picture. One picture comes from at least two blocks.”
However, getting the right color on the block is never easy. Sun said that when he made a woodblock New
Year picture, he printed and adjusted each color block more than 100 times to get the right look.
Even so, Sun and other inheritors are finding ways to pass down this traditional culture. “Students who are
interested in the exhibitions can learn this skill at a college in Suzhou because we offer exhibitions and classes
there.” said Sun.

Dear Amelia,
In your last email, you wanted to know more about our Culture Festival. Now I would like to share it with you.
It was held last Friday on the school playground to enrich our campus life. The festival included an exhibition
of students’ artwork, such as creative comic strips. I was truly amazed by their talent and imagination. Another
highlight was the ballet Swan Lake. The dancers’ attractive body language and graceful moves deeply impressed
everyone.
I felt proud and joyful that day. I sincerely invite you to be an exchange student here next year and experience
it yourself!
Best wishes!
