When I met Liebchen at the local animal shelter, I fell in love with him at first sight. He is an outgoing and energetic orange cat. After I brought him home, Liebchen started meowing at the door. He was trying to tell me that he wanted to go outside and explore.
Liebchen went on his first hike when he was just ten weeks old. Now he goes on adventures everywhere with me. When we go out, I usually make him wear goggles. This helps protect him from sunburn and snow blindness (雪盲症). On cold winter days, I also put a jacket on him if he needs it.
I do a lot of things with Liebchen. Of all these things, he likes hiking the most. He loves exploring forests, too. There he often jumps on and off rocks and fallen trees. And he enjoys smelling new places. He becomes very excited whenever he finds a new plant, insect or other animals. Liebchen also loves to ski. He usually rides on my shoulders and sticks his face into the wind.
My cat brings a smile to the face of everyone he meets. He is good at making friends with people and even dogs. If you meet Liebchen, he will quickly snuggle up to you.
Don’t be afraid; hear him out as he meows about his adventurous day!

Younger, Faster Learners
Are children smarter than adults The answer is “yes” when it comes to learning new things. A new study shows that kids learn new knowledge and skills faster than adults.
The study was carried out by scientists from the U. S. A.and Germany. In the study, some kids and adults learned the same lessons of new information and skills. The children were 8 to 11 years old. And the adults were 18 to 35 years old. The scientists looked at their GABA (γ-氨基丁酸) levels before, during and after these lessons. GABA is a chemical that our brains produce. It helps us remember newly learned information.
According to the study, the GABA levels in the children’s brains increased quickly during the lessons. This increase lasted for several minutes after the lessons were over. In the adults, however, there was no change in their GABA levels during or after the lessons.
The scientists then tested the effects of their learning. The results found that the children did learn more efficiently (有效率地) . They learned more items in the same amount of time than the adults.
This study encourages people to give children more chances to learn new skills. It could also be used to help adults learn faster. “We might develop a new technology, for example, to increase the amount of GABA in the adult brain,” said one of the scientists.
23.What is GABA according to the passage
A. A new technology to help adults learn faster.
B. A kind of lesson for kids and adults to learn new skills.
C. A study carried out by American and German scientists.
D. A chemical that the brain produces to help remember new information.
24.What did the scientists test in the study
A. The size of the brain. B. The speed of learning.
C. The levels of GABA. D. The amount of information.
25.What does the new study in the article show
A. Children learn new things faster than adults.
B. Children have better memories than adults.
C. Children produce more GABA than adults.
D. Children remember everything they learn.
26.If scientists successfully raise the GABA levels in an adult’s brain, what will most probably happen
A. The adult will learn more slowly than children.
B. The adult’s brain will stop producing other chemicals.
C. The adult’s GABA levels will stay the same after class.
D. The adult may be able to learn new things more efficiently.

Sustainable travel is an idea that many experts (专家) within the travel industry agree on. To continue enjoying this wonderful world, both travelers and the travel industry must learn to be more sustainable in actions. A report reads: “At this important moment in climate history, if there is no action, by 2040 many of the world’s favorite places will be forced to appear only online.”
What is sustainable travel It is about traveling in a way that reduces bad influences on the climate and environment, as well as the communities and people we visit. For many years, the attention around sustainable travel was based on reducing environmental pollution. While it is still important, there is now an even more pressing issue. With the growth of personal market, that means local communities aren’t benefiting (受益) much from tourism as they should, change is needed more than ever.
To deal with the problem, we need to rethink how we see travel. Instead of just focusing on our own experiences, we should think about the needs of our hosts alongside our hopes for a fun-filled holiday. All it takes is a little thoughtful planning.
One of the most effective ways you can make a difference when traveling is to reduce your carbon footprint (碳足迹) . Wherever you choose to go, your transport will likely cause the majority of your CO2 emissions. By simple math, that means taking shorter trips and in a way that uses less fuel (燃料) will make a big difference. And by doing so, you can visit more places and benefit more communities and people.
And traveling out of peak season can be a more enriching experience. You’ll avoid the crowds at popular sights and find lower prices for hotels, restaurants and activities. For local people who work in tourism and are seasonal workers, the money they make outside of busy periods is much valued and needed.
Another useful way to be more sustainable is to stay in community-owned accommodation rather than chain hotels. It means the money you spend goes directly to local people who are serving you and need it most.
Sustainable travel
Why is it important If travelers and the travel industry continue (1) little about the environment, we may one day lose the opportunity to enjoy the world’s beauty in person.
What is it It is about reducing harm to the environment and bringing more benefits to (2) and people.
What can we do * Small (3) in travel plans can help make tourism more sustainable. * Travel (4) distances and choose low-carbon transportation to reduce CO2 emissions. *Avoid traveling during the busy season to get more fun and (5) less. *Traveling out of peak season also helps seasonal workers support themselves better. *Staying in community-owned accommodation makes sure your money (6) to local people directly.
