一、阅读六选五:本大题共5小题,共10分。
Humans have feelings, and guess what (1) A new study says plants can sense their environment and answer to stress, just like animals.
Scientists used a machine to watch plants' reactions when they were treated in different ways. (2) When people watered a plant, the machine drew smooth, calm lines. It showed a calm reaction, just like how people feel when they relax. But when someone shook the plant or blew smoke near it, the lines became sharp and shaky. This shows plants might "feel" stress!
(3) A scientist acted meanly—he pretended (假装) to cut leaves with scissors. The machine's lines jumped wildly as he came near! However, when other scientists walked past the same plant, the machine stayed quiet. It seemed the plant only reacted to the "dangerous" person!
Another experiment tested if plants care about other living things. Live fish were dropped into hot water nearby. Surprisingly, the machine recorded strong reactions right away, as if the plants sensed the pain of dying animals. (4)
But how do plants "feel" They don't have brains, but their cells can send tiny signals when touched. For example, if you tickle a plant's roots, its leaves might curl up!
So what can we do (5) One gardener said her flowers bloomed brighter when she played soft music. Though we don't fully understand plants yet, treating them with care is always a good idea.

My parents had died years ago, so I often went to visit the churchyard to look at their names on their gravestones (墓碑).
One cold afternoon, I sat on a gravestone in that churchyard, listening to the sound of the sea.
“Don’t say a word!” cried a voice, as a man jumped up and caught me. “If you shout, I’ll kill you!” He was a big man, with an iron chain (铁链) on his leg. He looked tired, and hungry. I had never been so scared in my whole life.
“Oh! Don’t kill me, sir!”
“Tell me your name, boy!” he said, still holding me. “And show me where you live!”
“My name’s Pip, sir. And I live in the village over there.”
He picked me up and turned me upside down. A piece of old bread fell out of my pocket. He ate it like a dog.
“So where are your parents ” he asked.
“There, sir,” I answered, pointing to their graves.
“What!” he cried, and wanted to run, when he saw where I was pointing. “Oh!” he said. “They’re dead. Well, who do you live with ”
“With my sister, sir, wife of the blacksmith.”
“Blacksmith, you say ” And he looked down at his leg. Then he held me and looked down into my eyes.
“Now look here. You bring me a file and some food to me tomorrow morning. If you don’t, or if you tell anyone about me, I’ll cut your heart out.”
“I promise I’ll do it, sir,” my body was shaking.
“You see,” he continued, “I travel with a friend, who likes eating boys’ hearts. Wherever you are, we’ll find you.”
As soon as he turned, I ran home as fast as I could.

47.Last week, I asked a worker to help me repair my old house. On the first day of the job, it was so awful. When he was about to work, he found he had left his tools for work at home, and his car broke down on the way. While I drove him home, and his wife telephoned to say that his son had a bad cold.
He was silent all the way. When we arrived, he invited me to meet his family. As we walked towards the front door, he stopped at a small tree and touched the tree with his hands. When we opened the door, I was very surprised to see that the worker wore a big smile. It seemed that he changed into another person. He hugged his son and gave his wife a kiss.
After a while, when he walked to the car, I asked him why he had touched the tree. "Oh that's my trouble tree," he answered. "Sometimes I have trouble with my job, but one thing is for sure—it doesn't belong to my wife or my son. So I just hang up the trouble on the tree when I come home every night. Then the next morning I pick it up. However, when I pick it up, I hardly remember what I put the night before."
That's true, sometimes the best way to deal with the trouble is to put it down.

As the saying goes, "Roses given, fragrance in hand. " So helping others is very important.
One rainy afternoon, I was walking home from school when I saw an old man fall down heavily near the bus stop. He looked so painful that I ran to him at once, helped him stand up slowly, and shared my umbrella to keep him dry. He thanked me with a warm smile and held my hand tightly, saying I was a kind kid. Though my clothes got a little wet and I was late for home, I felt very happy and proud.
That day I learned that even a small act of kindness can bring great joy to both others and ourselves. I will always remember this warm and meaningful experience.
