designs from recycled waste, presenting their creativity while standing for
their schools around the world. This year marks the competition's 16th

On Feb 24, the Junk Kouture World Final was held in Dublin, Ireland, bringing together 60 top
school design teams from countries including Ireland, the UK, France, Italy and the US. In the end,

entry (参赛作品), a dress called Mirrorball, designed by Leonardo Iglesias and Sophie Lorenzo-Luace,
used more than 30,000 recycled can tabs. It won the title of New York Designer of the Year.

Twenty-five years ago, a small cartoon pig from HongKong changed the world of
animation (动画 ). Today, McDull is still remembered as a symbol of creativity and
heart, noted the Hollywood Reporter
In 2001, the film My Life as McDull told the story of a simple pig and his
everyday difficulties. The movie became a surprise success. It won a major prize at the
Annecy International Animated Film Festival and a Golden Horse Award. It even beat
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone at the Hong Kong box office for a short
time,Yahoo reported.
Producer Samuel Choy said the film stood out because it was “unique and original” (独特和原创).
Unlike many US or Japanese animations, My Life as McDull does not focus on heroes saving the
world or exciting adventures. US animation often features superheroes or fantasy(奇幻)worlds, while
Japanese works often have large settings. However, McDull’s story takes place on ordinary Hong Kong
streets, showing simple daily life, such as school, meals and time with his mother.
These everyday scenes help people connect with the story, noted the Paper. McDull is not smart or
perfect. He often fails, but he keeps trying. This “persistence in ordinary life” makes him feel real and
close to everyone.
Since then, the animation world in China has changed a lot. In 2025, animated films made huge
amounts of money at the box office. Big hits like Ne Zha 2 showed how popular local animation has
become, making billions worldwide.
The business has also grown outside of movies. At events like Hong Kong Filmart, experts talk
about new ideas such as artificial intelligence (AI), global teamwork, and selling products based on
popular characters, according to Qianjiang Evening News. The McDull team is also exploring new
projects, including a stage performance and a spin-off animation (衍生动画作品).
23. Which film did My Life as McDull beat at the Hong Kong box office
A. Ne Zha 2. B. Harry Potter. C. Japanese animations.. D. US superhero movies.
24. Why do people connect easily with McDull’s story
A. He saves the world bravely. B. He is smart and perfect.
C. He is close to every common person. D. He lives in a fantasy world.
25. What does the word “persistence” in paragraph 4 most probably mean
A. Giving up easily. B. Failing once. C. Being very clever. D. Continuing to try.
26. What can we learn from the passage
A. US animations are often about superheroes.
B. McDull’s story includes many exciting adventures.
C. Chinese local animation is less popular than before.
D. The McDull team is using AI technology to remake the film.

Laurie had just come home from school when she heard a light hammering (敲击 ) sound coming
from Grandpa's study. Curious, she tapped on the door. “Grandpa Can I come in ”
“Just a second!” Grandpa answered. Laurie heard lots of shuffling (拖着脚走). “Enter!”
Grandpa was sitting empty-handed at his desk; but there were wood shavings (刨花 ) everywhere.
“Aren't you supposed to be at school ” he asked.
“It’s over at three. What were you doing here ” Laurie said curiously. She saw something wooden
under a book. “Aha!” she cried, pulling the object out. “What’s this ”
“Well, that’s your birthday gift. But now it won’t be a surprise,” Grandpa said.
It was a wooden crocodile (鳄鱼 ) with a string (线 ) on the top of its head so the mouth could be
opened and shut.
“It’s an ancient Egyptian (埃及的 ) toy,” Grandpa said. “I made this, but if you were a child in
ancient Egypt, you might have something similar. Crocodiles were an important part of Egyptian life, and
many crocodiles lived in the Nile River.”
“The Egyptians depended on the Nile River for many things. It flooded every year, giving
much-needed water and nutrients (营养物) to the land. This made farming easy for the Egyptians. The
soft, wet land also made good mud (土) for building mud-brick houses.”
“And the river provided the people of the area with a convenient highway for transportation and
communication.”
“Ancient Egypt was an agricultural society. If you were a little Egyptian girl living about four
thousand years ago, your father would probably be a grain farmer. Grains were the most common crop,
especially wheat and barley (大麦), which were used to make bread and beer—the most typical food and
drink.”
“Unluckily, children didn’t go to school like you do now. You’d probably spend most days helping
your parents. During the harvest season maybe you would bundle (捆扎 ) wheat up on the farm. Or
perhaps you’d be at home, helping to cook or take care of the vegetable garden near your house.”
Just then, Mom called from downstairs, “Laurie! I’m home!”
“Hi, Mom! I’ll be right down!” Laurie said. “Thanks, Grandpa. I’ll pretend (假装) I never saw this,”
she said, putting the crocodile back on the desk. “Until next time!”
“Until next time! Bye, Laurie!”
—Adapted from Grandpa's World History

In western China, educational resources are fewer than in the eastern parts. There is a program
called “Go West”. It sends young volunteers to help bridge the gap. Since 2003, tens of thousands of
university graduates have served in the program. 36
At Xinjiang’s Xieyite Primary School, a volunteer teacher named Gao Chao came after
graduation. She found something. 37 For example, problems like “getting on and off the bus”
were hard for them. So she used sheep-counting problems instead. For example: “There were a certain
number of sheep in the pen. Some were let out in the morning. Some came back in the evening. How
many are there now ” In this way, she made lessons easy and fun.
38 Most students had never stepped outside their hometown. So she shared her travel
photos and videos during breaks. In August 2024, she and three other teachers took 12 students on a
study tour to Beijing. After the trip, a girl named Dilizhada said, “If I study hard now, I will have more
choices in the future.” She used to think her life would be like her parents’—living in the mountains
forever.
Yan, another volunteer teacher at the school, is known among the students as their warm-hearted
“big brother”. He carefully observes the children’s learning habits and pays regular home visits.
39 He also held a class talk. The talk was about “how to get along with classmates”. He taught
children to help and understand each other.
The volunteer team averages 24 years old. They were recently honored with the China Youth
May Fourth Medal. 40 They got it for their contributions to ethnic unity (民族团结) and
border stability (边境稳定).

tea. While studying in Yunnan, he worked hard and learned new ways to treat heart diseases. To help
more patients in his hometown, he plans to return after graduation and put the medical skills he has
learned in Kunming into practice.
At the 2026 Chinese Bridge Gala, Mubaiwa met 12-year-old Eve Solovey from America. Eve has
Chinese for seven years. Her mother Alexandra Solovey says Chinese culture helps children

四、书面表达 (20分)
Looking back at my middle school life, I think one word best describes it is “growth”.
At the beginning of middle school, I was quiet and afraid to answer questions in class. One day,
my math teacher asked me to solve a problem on the blackboard. My hands were shaking, but I tried to
stay calm and finished it correctly. The teacher smiled and said, “Well done! But you need to be braver
when facing difficulty.” From then on, I started to raise my hand more often. Slowly, I became more
confident.
From this experience, I learned that growth happens when you push yourself a little bit each time.
You don’t have to be perfect overnight. Just take one small brave step.
