Discuss& Share
Use discourse markers to show relationships
Discourse markers are also known as “linking words”. They are used to show relationships between ideas. such as:
to add something (e.g. also, besides, additionally)
to show contrast (e.g. however, on the other hand)
to explain a reason (e.g. because, since)
to show a result ( e.g. therefore, as a result)
Without discourse markers, the connections between sentences and paragraphs would be less obvious.
Reading strategy
语篇标记词
1 however A to add something
2 since B to show contrast
3 when C to explain a reason
4 in addition to D to show an end point in time
5 in fact E to show time
6 later F to emphasize
7 eventually G to describe the order of events
Read the article again and underline the discourse markers
Read the article again. Match each of these discourse markers with the correct purpose.
Without discourse markers, the connections between sentences and paragraphs would be less obvious.
Deep thinking
What can travel bring to us
By traveling, not only can we relieve one’s pressures of life and work, but also broaden our horizon/ open our eyes.
Meanwhile, we have chances to enjoy the beautiful scenery in different places and experience different cultures.
Travelling much,we will not only enrich our knowledge and experiences, but also be aware of the vastness of nature.
From my aspect, we can make many friends and widen our social circle.

Yourself!
To read or travel,
may your heart and your steps
always on the way to your better life!
Travel far enough,
you meet yourself.
