Looking at her granddaughter Pat,old Betty felt truly thankful for her life.
Although her husband Frank had passed away five years before,she still lived happily,
surrounded by a big and loving family nearby.Bad days came now and then,but Betty
always held a simple belief:there was goodness in everything if you looked hard enough.
This was also what Frank had always told her.
Betty once loved playing tennis.However,she had to give up her hobby because of
her knee problem.Still,she tried to stay positive and went out for a short walk every day
to enjoy the fresh air and warm sunshine after long cloudy days.Life was simple but
peaceful.
One day,a removal van arrived.A young family moved into the house
opposite Betty's.Soon Grace,the new neighbor,came to visit Betty with a warm smile.
She introduced her family:her husband Jon and their two children,Mel and David.
Grace explained that Mel loved music and practised the violin quite often.Worried about
making noise,she left her phone number and offered to help Betty with shopping in her
free time,since she would work part-time at a local primary school.Betty was moved
and told Grace to let Mel play the violin as much as she liked.
Later,Betty saw Mel standing outside alone,looking unhappy.The teenage girl
missed her old friends and music group in her hometown and was unsure whether her
music was good enough.Kind Betty noticed her sadness.She comforted Mel and
encouraged her to be brave.She told Mel not to fear failure and to show her talent freely,
because life favored those who dared to try.Inspired by her words,Mel cheered up and
decided to practise harder.
Soon came Betty's 87th birthday.The day turned bright and lovely.Relatives and
friends called one after another to send their wishes.Busy receiving guests,Betty felt a
little tired but full of joy,knowing how deeply she was loved.
