Peipei:Good idea, but we did that last year. Wouldn't it be better if we did something different this year, like organising students to volunteer their time
Wang Li:Like what
Peipei:Well, like cleaning up the community, taking down ads from walls, and picking up litter. It might be a good idea to contact the community office and ask how we can help. Do you guys have any other ideas

Lily: That sounds like a kind thing to do, but my grandma is coming over this Saturday. I have to spend time with her. I’m sorry I can’t make it for the nursing home.
Tom: No problem at all! How about we go to the community park on Sunday My advice would be to help clean up the paths and water the young trees there.
Lily: Oh, that’s perfect! I love being outdoors, and tidying up the park will make it nicer for everyone. Let’s meet at the park gate at 9 a.m. on Sunday!
Tom: Deal! I’ll bring a pair of gloves and a trash bag.
Task 7: Pair Work: Talk about the plan for volunteer work.
Peer--evaluation
Items Yes
No

4 Did they use proper expressions to give responses
Task 8: Deep thinking
What kinds of skills and qualities are necessary if you want to be one of the volunteers
Sample answers:
For volunteering at a children’s hospital: You need patience to chat with or read to sick kids, and a caring attitude to cheer them up.
For helping at a nursing home: You need good communication skills to talk with elderly residents, and basic practical skills to assist with their daily tasks (like folding clothes).
But the most important thing about being a volunteer is having a caring heart and being willing to share your love and warmth.
