I always saw myself as an honest person. The only time I’d ever lied was to protect someone’s feelings. But that wasn’t really lying.I would tell myself that it was an act of kindness!
And then I had a therapy(治疗) period, when I realized that all of this was actually people-pleasing behaviour. Not only that, but according to my therapist,by continuously hiding my true feelings to protect those I loved,I was stopping them from ever getting to know the real me.I knew something had to change. So,from that moment,I promised I would never tell another lie again.
It was particularly hard at the start. It would take me hours to reply to a “do you like a coffee?” text when my answer was “no”.But gradually,I realized it was not impossible.Because more often than not,I’d tell the truth when I have to stop the appointment(约定) with friends, but instead of being disappointed, they would reply,“Oh,I’m delighted that you tell the truth.”
If there is any difference,by telling the truth,I was becoming closer to those I really connected with, and gently letting go of those I didn’t.Some did struggle at first because they weren’t used to my honesty. But slowly, people began to express their gratitude for my new-found honesty.I’ll never forget the first time a friend thanked me for it:“I feel so safe in our friendship because I know if I’ve upset you, you’ll just tell me!” It’s why I’m fully committed to maintaining honesty.I have no idea where it will take me,but at least I’ll always be living a life of total authenticity.
My experience inspired me to write a children’s novel about a girl who couldn’t lie.I’ve dedicated(把……献给) it to my younger self, and I hope it also encourages a new generation to do what I’ve only just learned:to tell the truth.
24.When did the author decide to stop lying
A.When she received a treatment.
B.When she became a therapist.
C.When she made her friends happy.
D.When she wanted to protect someone’s feelings.
25.What made the author believe it is possible to tell the truth
A.Her friends’ supportive responses.
B.Her unique way to tell the truth.
C.Her therapist’s encouragement.
D.Her trust in her friends.
26.What does the underlined word “authenticity” in paragraph 4 mean
A.Creativity. B.Humor.
C.Truth. D.Greatness.
27.What does the author want the new generation to do in the last paragraph
A.Be honest people.
B.Avoid unnecessary conversations.
C.Write books to encourage children to be happy.
D.Keep a balance between telling lies and the truth.

Sea level is rising due to climate(气候) change, which threatens the future of millions of people around the world. Also,it threatens our cultural past.“It’s really the history of our species that’s at risk in a lot of ways,” says Meghan Howey,an archaeologist at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.Another archaeologist Anderson recently used online data(数据) to look at the dangers caused by rising seas to cultural sites in the south-eastern United States. He found a one-meter rise in sea level could destroy more than 13,000 of those places.
So how are we going to protect the important places Efforts to limit the worst impacts from climate change, including sea level rise, will require cutting greenhouse-gas emissions(排放) or maybe taking steps to limit flooding in important areas.Another approach might be to move cultural treasures. But projects like that are often very expensive. It’s unlikely that funds to do that will be available(可用的) for every site. And some treasures simply can’t be moved.
But high-tech tools might help preserve knowledge of those treasures before physical sites are lost, says Mark McCoy,an archaeologist at Southern Methodist University in Dallas,Texas. For example, scanning and imaging tools can help.LIDAR is a type of system that uses lasers to make exact 3-D scans of objects.High-resolution digital photography can make detailed puter technologies can also create 3-D virtual reality models.
Rising seas are likely to eventually bury a lot of archaeological treasures. And in some cases, the old techniques(技术) that archaeologists have long used may also help.“I still use traditional methods out on a site when the conditions call for it,” McCoy notes. For example,he says,“Paper and pencil do not require batteries and don’t break when I drop them on rocks.”
28.Why does the author mention two archaeologists in paragraph 1
A.To stress the risk to cultural sites.
B.To prove the value of online data.
C.To explain the reason of sea level rise.
D.To show the impact of climate change.
29.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A.How to make exact 3-D scans of objects.
B.How to save the endangered cultural treasures.
C.Scanning and imaging tools can help save the treasures.
D.High-tech tools may play a part in preserving knowledge of the sites.
30.What’s McCoy’s attitude towards traditional methods
A.Objective. B.Doubtful.
C.Supportive. D.Puzzled.

Ariel Procaccia has always been attracted by big questions and hard problems. When he was a teenager,Procaccia loved reading books about big ideas. One of his favorites was Fermat’s Last Theorem, which tells the story of a math puzzle that remained unsolved for more than 300 years.Another book he enjoyed was A Brief History of Time, which explores deep questions about the universe.
By the time he went to college,Procaccia knew he wanted to study two of three things—math, computer science and physics.“But my dad is a physics professor, and it seemed strange to do the same thing he did,” Procaccia says.“So I chose the other two.”
Today,Procaccia is a computer scientist at Harvard University in Cambridge,Mass. There,he designs computer algorithms(算法) that can solve problems quickly and fairly.Through this work,Procaccia has been able to address some big problems that directly affect people’s daily lives.
One of his favorite projects is Spliddit.org.It’s a free website that helps people divide things in a way that mathematically ensures fairness. For example, one of the apps on Spliddit is rent division.Say a few roommates rent an apartment and have different preferences over rooms. The goal is to assign(分配) the rooms and divide the rent in a way that each roommate feels they got the best deal.Since Spliddit was started in 2014,it has been used by hundreds of thousands of people.
For those who think computer science is only about computers,Procaccia has a different view.He believes it is really about solving problems in the best way possible. He encourages people to explore it,even if they think they are not interested in computers. He says,“It’s not just about the machines;it’s about using them to make a real difference in people’s lives.”
32.What can we learn about Procaccia from the first paragraph
A.He has a curious mind.
B.He longed to be a teacher.
C.He was a quiet teenager.
D.He enjoys writing stories.
33.Why did Procaccia study math and computer science in college
A.He accepted his father’s suggestion.
B.He failed to choose the subjects he loved.
C.He was unwilling to follow his father’s path.
D.He thought computer science was more popular.
34.What is the main purpose of the website Spliddit.org
A.To encourage students to explore math.
B.To share information on low-rent housing.
C.To help its users find suitable roommates.
D.To offer solutions to fair division problems.
35.What is Procaccia’s opinion about computer science
A.It is mainly about computers.
B.It aims to improve people’s daily lives.
C.It only draws college students.
D.It depends on future computer scientists.

As I walked towards the track,I glanced around me at the sea of faces in the stands, but my mind was focused. After I finished the six events of the heptathlon(七项全能),the Olympic gold medal was just minutes away.
My heart was beating loudly,my mouth was dry and the adrenaline(肾上腺素) was pumping.I was so close to the realization of my childhood dream and the feeling was fantastic; it was completely exciting, but also terrifying.I knew I would have to push myself beyond my known limits to ensure that my dream came true.
I tried to keep calm, telling myself not to panic,to stick to the plan and to run my own race.I knew the Russian girls would set off quickly—and I had to finish this race fewer than ten seconds behind the Russian athlete Yelena Prokhorova. If I could do that, the gold medal would be mine.
I looked at the track and caught my breath. The 800m race stood between me and the gold medal.
The supporters were cheering so loudly that it seemed as if they were the only fans there.I could hear my name being called.I could hear the shouts of encouragement and the cries of hope.Flags fluttered all around the vast, beautiful stadium.I felt unified with the crowd—we all had the same vision and the same dream.
My ankle(脚踝) was bandaged against an injury I had got in the long jump just a couple of hours earlier, but I shut out all thoughts of pain.I just tried to concentrate on the crowd.Their cheers uplifted my spirits and I felt calm.
I knew I would do my best and that I would run my heart out and finish the race.I had just two laps to run, that was all.Just two laps and only two minutes,I kept telling myself, anyone could run for two minutes.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
The starting gun was fired, and the race began.
Prokhorova was running ahead of me.

Text 10
M:On Thursday,I woke up feeling ill.I had a headache, and I felt really tired, although I went to bed early the night before.Because I also had a fever,my mom said I should stay at home.I was worried about missing school because I had an important science test that day.If it had been for math or English,I could have taken the test online, but I needed to be in the lab.Dad called my school and explained the situation, and, thankfully,my teacher said I could take the exam when I felt better.By lunchtime,I had developed a cough. So,together with Dad,I went to the hospital to do a medical test.It was unpleasant, but not too bad.I got the result the next day.Luckily! It was not very serious, but it was still a very bad cold.I was in bed for five days and didn’t return to school until the following Wednesday.Anyhow,I passed my science test!

参考范文
Hello, everyone! My name is Li Hua.Today I’d like to talk about my views on kindness, which is promoted as the most important moral value in Confucianism.
Last Friday,on my way home,I came across a little boy crying in the street. As it turned out,he got separated from his mother in the crowd.Having found he didn’t know his parents’ phone numbers,I took him to the nearest police station and accompanied him until he joyfully reunited with his mother.
As the saying goes,“Kindness is the golden chain linking society.” If everyone practices kindness in daily life,no doubt we’ll strengthen connection between people, which absolutely helps in building a harmonious society.
Thank you for listening!

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
The starting gun was fired, and the race began.
Prokhorova was running ahead of me.
参考范文
The starting gun was fired, and the race began.Prokhorova had taken the lead right from the start.I knew it was crucial not to let her build too big of a lead.As we heard the bell signaling the final lap,I was 2.3 seconds behind her.Just one lap to go! Determination surged through me as I pushed forward, believing I could do it.In the last 150 meters, the thunderous roar of the crowd provided a boost at exactly the moment I desperately needed it—just as my legs were burning and I saw the gap opening between me and the Russian.Thankfully,my foot was holding out.
Prokhorova was running ahead of me.I had to keep up with her.I started counting down the meters I had left:40m,20m,10m.I knew I could do it,but it would be a close finish. Then, finally, the finish line came into view. With the last ounce of strength,I crossed it,completely exhausted.I stood there, looking up and waiting for confirmation. And then, the moment that would stay with me for the rest of my life arrived—my name in lights. That was when it all hit me:relief,a moment of calm, and a silent gratitude to my inner self.I was the Olympic champion! I made it.
