At the Paralympic Games (残奥会), many blind or nearly blind athletes race (比赛) with the help of a guide. These pairs work very closely together.
Jerusa Geber is a runner who lost her sight as a teenager. When she races with her guide Garcia, he runs to her left. They each hold one end of a short rope. If they’ve started well, he matches her speed bit by bit, but with the opposite foot. They work so well together that Jerusa now holds the women’s world record in the 100-metre race for blind or nearly blind athletes.
Since 2012, guides at the Paralympics can win medals too. But the teamwork is about more than just winning. Garcia is a runner himself. “I like being a guide,” he said. “I feel more pressure (压力) at the Paralympics. I have to give 200% of myself to avoid mistakes and help my teammate do her best.”
In cycling, Hannah Chadwick and her guide, Skyler Espinoza, also work closely. When they ride together, Espinoza always holds Chadwick’s hand before starting,” It’s a reminder (提示) that we’re in this together,” Espinoza said.
Chadwick and Espinoza follow the same training plan. Sometimes, when the training gets hard, Chadwick thinks of her teammate. “I’m not training just for myself,” she said. “I’m training for both of us!”
People sometimes say Espinoza is making a sacrifice (牺牲) for a disabled athlete. But she doesn’t see it that way. Espinoza believes that if she hadn’t been a Paralympic guide, she would never have shone so much in sport. “I’m lucky that Hannah chose me to do this, just as I chose to do it with her,” she said.

On a cold winter night, two beagles, Pepper and Cooper, walked along a snowy road in Bethel, Ohio. They had no home and needed a safe, warm place to rest. Pepper, the female dog, was pregnant, and Cooper stayed close to protect her.
Gus Kiebel, a wildlife officer, was driving home when he saw the dogs in the snow. He noticed they wore collars with name tags. Gus stopped his truck and gently approached them. The dogs didn’t try to run away. He read their names and tried calling the number on their tags, but the snow made it hard to use his phone.

Everyone talks about the advantages (优点) of taking time out for “simple pleasures”.
The idea is that we will be happier if we often do inexpensive easy-to-do activities.
However, the problem for many of us is that we don’t know what makes us happy. When I was in college, my mother gave me some advice. She said, “Before you get married and live with another person, you need to spend some time living by yourself. You need to get to know yourself.”
So I did exactly that. For almost two years, I lived by myself. I found that I loved to spend hours in bookstores. I also loved to spend an afternoon just walking around the city.
A simple pleasure for me would be to spend an hour reading a book in my backyard. However, that same activity would give my husband no pleasure. We are So different.
Sometimes, we already know what makes us happy. However, as life gets busier and we get older, we put aside our simple pleasures. For example, I had to give up playing the flute when I started working and had family. But three years ago, I returned to playing the flute. I regret (后悔) having ever stopped.
Simple pleasures are neither simple nor usual. Our simple pleasures express who we are. They are different activities that give each of us joy. Certainly there are some usual topics—such as being out in nature, doing something creative, or enjoying music and literature—but except that, each of us has to find out what it is that feeds our souls (内心).
That isn’t always easy in a world in which we have to think about other people’s needs and opinions as well as our own, but enjoying simple pleasures is something that each of us needs.
Think of it as your right, and say to yourself, “Today, I’m going to find out what my simple pleasures are.”
38.What is the main idea of the last two paragraphs
A.To realize simple pleasures is the most important part of life.

A.Few people can enjoy them. B.They can show who we are.
C.It’s expensive to get them. D.They change as we grow older.
40.What does the writer want to tell by sharing her experience of living alone
A.It’s important to live alone before getting married.
B.A couple don’t always share the same interest.
C.It’s worth (值得) spending time alone enjoying simple pleasures.
D.Clever people often take their mothers’ advice.
41.What is the best title for the passage
A.Find Out Your Own Pleasures
B.Live Alone to Enjoy Life
C.Think About Your Own Needs
D.Find Out Who You Are

Gently holding a baby hummingbird, Catia Lattou says, “Hello, cute little guy. Are you hungry ” It’s the newest patient at her apartment in Mexico City, where she has nursed hundreds of the tiny birds back to health over the past ten years. Under Catia’s gentle touch, the bird relaxes little by little, allowing her to examine it. This is often how Catia’s days have gone since she turned her apartment into a home for sick, injured or baby hummingbirds.
Catia began caring for hummingbirds a year after surviving colon cancer. It started with one hummingbird that had an eye injured by another bird. A friend encouraged her to try to help it. She named it Warrior (勇士). The bird became her part that couldn’t be taken away, resting on her computer screen while she worked. “It wrote me a new life,” she said of the nine months the bird stayed with her. It helped pull Catia out of the sadness and loneliness she had experienced after her husband’s death followed by her cancer.
Later, friends began bringing her more hummingbirds, and the need for her services has jumped since 2022. She began studying how to better care for the tiny birds that are native to America. Someone put a video about her work on social media, which has been viewed more than 1.5 million times.
Catia says she never turns away a bird. She cares for the birds from 5 a.m. into the night. Most of the hummingbirds stay in Catia’s bedroom until they are strong enough to fly and feed themselves before they are finally freed.
The city is filled with menaces to hummingbirds. There are other birds that attack them and destroy their homes as well as modern building projects that replace flower gardens. But Catia remains positive and is certain that other bird lovers will plant more flowers to feed the birds. “Nothing is ensured,” she said. “But we do everything possible.”

Chinese paper-cutting is one of the oldest handicrafts in China. It appeared during the Northern Dynasties. So it has a history of about 1,500 years. At first, paper-cuttings were only popular in the countryside, and the masters were farmers’ wives.
Traditional paper-cuttings were first put on windows for decoration. This is why they’re also called “window flowers”. Most paper-cuttings are made of red paper, because red means good luck in Chinese culture. Today, people use paper-cuttings to decorate not only windows, but also mirrors, lamps and other furniture.
Paper-cuttings are popular because of their expressions of good wishes and hopes. During the Spring Festival, for example, many people put up paper-cuttings of the Chinese character “Fu” upside down. They hope that this will bring them good luck. At wedding ceremonies, you can always see paper-cuttings of the character “Xi”. It means that the couple can enjoy double happiness together. Paper-cuttings have developed different styles in different parts of China. Paper-cuttings from the northern parts usually have interesting shapes and rich patterns. In southern China, people prefer elegant paper-cuttings. They focus more on the themes of flowers, fruit, birds and fish.
It is quite easy to learn how to make paper-cuttings. With a piece of paper and a knife or a pair of scissors, you can try to make your own paper art.
31.How does Garcia help the blind athlete Jerusa Geber

D.He holds a rope, running beside her with the opposite foot.

Gus decided to take the dogs into his truck to keep them warm. He called the number again, but the owner said he didn’t want the dogs anymore. Realizing they were abandoned, Gus called his wife, Katie. She told him to bring them home because they couldn’t leave the dogs outside in the storm.
That night, Gus and Katie gave the dogs food, water, and a warm bed on their porch. The two beagles stayed close to each other showing how much they cared for each other. Although Gus had always wanted beagles, the couple already had a family dog and couldn’t keep Pepper and Cooper.
The next day, Gus contacted a no-kill animal shelter. Katie brought the dogs there but made the staff promise to keep them together. She called often to check on them, glad to hear they were safe and cared for. A few days after Christmas, the shelter told her Pepper and Cooper had been adopted as a pair by a loving family.
