My family would describe me as anything but a risk-taker. “Grandma drives faster than you!” my younger son likes to joke with me. So when I announced I was going to step outside my comfort zone and sign up for a self-defense course, my children, my husband, and even my mom were a bit doubtful.
A gym near my house was offering two-hour classes including boxing, wrestling and judo (柔道). I signed up for it and for the next days I questioned whether yoga would have been a wiser choice. The morning of the class, I pulled up to the gym, grabbed my water bottle along with a bit of courage I brought with me, and walked inside. We learned how to kick and knee someone where it counts and how to strike using the palms of our hands. After the coach showed various escape skills, I found myself questioning my presence in such a setting. However, in the next second, I reminded myself that I had set out this journey to explore the furthest part of my abilities and to challenge the boundary of what I believed I was able to achieve.
Before I entered the gym, I never imagined I would have the confidence and courage to throw a blow that could discourage someone twice my size. Almost two years later, I still attend classes. As the oldest female in the class, I push myself to keep up, try harder and, more importantly, not quit.
Between increasing my strength and feeling confident about protecting myself (although I hope I never have to test my skills outside of the gym) , I’m proud of the risk I took in signing up for the course. I know that defending myself is not about strength, it’s about strategy. At the same time, I’m calmer and less anxious - a benefit my family enjoys.
As for my driving, after a recent lunch date, my mom suggested I speed up to at least the speed limit. She didn’t want to be late for her tennis match.
24. How did the author’s family think of her according to paragraph 1?
A. She was dependable. B. She liked taking risks.
C. She used to enjoy her comfort zone. D. She drove fast.
25. What does the underlined word “boundary” in the second paragraph mean?
A. Limit. B. Honor. C. Aim. D. Record.
26. What contributes to the success of the author?
A. Strategies from the classmates. B. Her never giving up.
C. Encouragement from the family. D. Skills from the coach.
27. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Self-defense training improves family relationships.
B. The training leads to better control in daily life.
C. Mom is still worried about the author’s driving ability.
D. Calmness gained from training increases mom’s confidence in me.
C
Heat waves don’t just make bumblebees (大黄蜂) hot. High temperatures also seem to seriously reduce their sense of smell, which can be very bad for their survival. For bumblebees, being able to smell flowers is a matter of life or death because it helps them find food.
Bumblebees are already known to suffer from climate change. So, an insect ecologist from the University of Würzburg in Germany and her team wanted to understand if heat waves could influence bumblebees’ ability to smell flowers.
The researchers put around 190 bumblebees from two common species into small special rooms for almost three hours at temperatures of 40°C to simulate (模拟) heat waves. Some bumblebees were also put in a dry environment; some had ways to sugary resources; some were given time to recover at normal temperatures for 24 hours after the heat treatment. After the simulated heat waves, the researchers cut off the bumblebees’ antennae (触须), which they use to smell, and measured whether the olfactory sensory neurons (the cells that help them smell) in the antennae could still detect flower scents.
The heat waves reduced the bumblebees’ ability to smell by up to 80 percent. Worker bumblebees, which are all female, were more affected than male bumblebees. Even worse, the antennae of the bumblebees that had 24 hours to cool off still didn’t recover their sense of smell after that time. “That was surprising,” said the insect ecologist. This suggests the bumblebees don’t recover quickly, which means they might have trouble finding food. “It could be one reason why we see so many bumblebee’s population drops,” she added, along with other factors like habitat loss.
“The study seems pretty reliable,” said a bumblebee ecologist from the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, who didn’t take part in the study. “The antennae are quite similar across bee species,” he added. “If bumblebees suffer in this way, I think it’s probable that other bees would too. But we won’t know for sure until someone does research on it.”
28. What problem might bumblebees face in the end because of heat waves?
A. Habitat loss. B. Death risk. C. Food shortage. D. Sensory failure.
29. Why were some bumblebees given 24 hours to recover after the treatment?
A. To count their number and species.
B. To prevent the researchers making mistakes.
C. To make sure they can adapt to the environment.
D. To prove if hot waves damage their sense of smell.
30. What does the insect ecologist think of the research result?
A. It leads to a good method. B. It goes beyond her control.
C. It limits the scientific research. D. It takes researchers’ doubts away.
31. What can we learn about other bees according to the bumblebee ecologist?
A. There is still a lot to study. B. They will suffer from death.
C. They will be well protected. D. More researchers are studying them.
D
In recent years, there has been a significant shift towards adopting eco-friendly practices and promoting sustainable lifestyles. This global trend is fueled by various factors, ranging from heightened environmental awareness to economic advantages.
A primary driver behind the rise of green living is the increasing awareness of environmental issues, particularly the urgent need to address climate change. As people become more informed about the harmful effects of carbon emissions, deforestation, and pollution, there is a collective push toward adopting practices that minimize ecological impact.
Beyond environmental concerns, there are some economic motives driving the shift toward sustainability. For instance, energy-efficient technologies and practices can significantly reduce utility bills over time, making them financially advantageous for homeowners and businesses alike. Additionally, governments and organizations often offer some financial stimuli such as tax credits and subsidies (补贴) to encourage the development and adoption of renewable energy sources.
For example, solar energy has emerged as a frontrunner in the renewable energy sector, attracting widespread interest from homeowners and businesses seeking clean energy solutions. Solar panels use sunlight to generate electricity, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The declining costs of solar technology, coupled with advancements in efficiency and storage capabilities, have made solar panels increasingly practical and cost-effective.
Consumer attitudes and preferences are also factors driving the demand for sustainable products and services. Millennials (千禧一代) and Generation Z, in particular, prioritize environmental responsibility and prefer to support businesses that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. This shift has urged businesses across various sectors to integrate eco-friendly practices into their operations, from sustainable sourcing to waste reduction initiatives.
Moreover, the power of social influence cannot be underestimated in shaping consumer behavior towards sustainability. Social media platforms and online communities arouse awareness about environmental issues and show innovative green solutions. Individuals are increasingly motivated by peer examples, fostering a collective movement towards greener lifestyles.
These living practices reflects a global commitment to sustainability. By choosing to integrate sustainable practices and technologies into everyday life, individuals and communities can contribute to lessening climate change and creating a healthier planet for future generations.
32. What is the result when the government offers financial stimuli according to the text?
A. Green energy will be more accessible and affordable.
B. It will bring too much financial burden to the government.
C. Technology companies will make much progress in their field.
D. Traditional fossil fuels will give way to renewable energy entirely.
33. What is true about the consumer behavior according to paragraphs 5 and 6?
A. Older generations have a more sustainable lifestyle.
B. Peers make little difference in shaping consumer behavior.
C. Social influence promises to drive changes in consumer preferences.
D. The eco-friendly practices of companies cause the shift of consumer behavior.
34. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To initiate a process. B. To list some reasons.
C. To address concerns. ` D. To analyze a dilemma.
35. What is the suitable title of the text?
A. Keeping Sustainable Development: The Strategic Goals for the Globe.
B. Protecting the Environment: An Everlasting Topic throughout the World.
C. Promoting Ourselves: A Better and More Advanced World in Store for Us.
D. Embracing Green Living: The Growing Movement towards Sustainability.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eva started her new job at a small charity called “Caring for Carers.” While checking the shared campaign folder, a name caught her eye: Adam Turner.
Memories suddenly flooded back. Adam had been her major opponent at school — a boy who always carried a leather briefcase while everyone else had backpacks. He was extremely talented at maths, while Eva excelled in English and history. They once failed a group project because they spent all their time arguing, unable to combine his logic with her creativity.
When the office door opened, a tall, handsome man walked in. It was Adam. He smiled broadly, “You do remember! Conker!” he teased, using her old nickname. Eva glared, but Adam quickly turned professional. “The Simpson Foundation is offering funding. If we make a convincing speech next Friday, they’ll pay for the whole campaign.”
As they worked together, the old disagreement remained. Adam was buried in precise budgets, while Eva insisted on using “creative” ideas to move the funders. Eva complained that he was too obsessed with figures, while Adam responded that her ideas were too impractical. They seemed to be back in their school days, fighting over every detail.
However, as the deadline approached, their relationship began to shift. Eva made an effort to understand his financial tables, and Adam started to appreciate the emotional power of Eva’s storytelling. One afternoon, they discovered some old black-and-white photos of people the charity had helped. Eva suggested using these to tell real stories, and Adam’s eyes lit up. He realized he could back those stories with data to prove their impact.
The day of the presentation finally arrived, which was also the final day of Eva’s trial period. Standing outside the boardroom, Eva felt her heart pounding. This wasn’t just about the funding; it was about whether she and her old opponent could finally succeed as a team.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Taking a deep breath, Eva and Adam stepped into the boardroom together.

【答案】 Hi, Chris! Glad to know that you are interested in Chinese electric cars.
I think that electric cars are popular in China mainly due to rapid technological progress and strong policy support. Breakthroughs in battery life and charging speed have solved the “range anxiety” problem, while the government’s subsidies and tax cuts lower the purchase cost. Additionally, the widespread construction of charging piles makes recharging as convenient as refueling.
In my view, this trend is highly positive. It not only reduces urban air pollution, but also demonstrates China’s leadership in the global green transition. With continuous innovation, electric vehicles will undoubtedly shape the future of mobility in China and beyond.
【答案】范文:
Taking a deep breath, Eva and Adam stepped into the boardroom together. Facing the group of funders, Adam kicked off the presentation with solid data, his voice steady and confident. Just as the atmosphere became a bit dry, Eva smoothly took over, weaving the touching stories behind the old photographs into her speech. She noticed the funders leaning forward, their expressions softening as they connected with the faces in the pictures. Adam didn’t interrupt her this time; instead, he nodded encouragingly, clicking through the slides in perfect time with her words. For the first time, their different strengths weren’t clashing — they were working in harmony, blending cold facts with warm hearts.
As they walked out of the room, Joanna, their manager, was waiting for them with a bright smile. She announced excitedly that the foundation was so impressed by their combined approach that the funding was officially theirs. Eva and Adam looked at each other, a wave of relief and victory washing over them. Adam turned to Eva, his eyes twinkling, and joked that they had finally passed that media studies project from years ago. Eva laughed, realizing that her”school enemy” had turned into her best partner. She hadn’t just found a perfect job; she had found a friendship she once thought impossible, proving that even the strongest competitors could make the finest team.
