When handball was introduced to Sri Lankan schools in 2019,I wanted to bring it to my school,St Anthony’s,in the remote village of Wasalakotte in central Sri Lanka. This became a challenging task as the sports coach was unwilling to play anything other than traditional sports, such as rugby and basketball.
As headmaster, however,I was determined to start this game at any cost.I foresaw it as a golden opportunity for our school as we had never got a place in traditional sports. The boys were immediately interested and 40 students aged between 13 and 19 signed up to play.Heshan Pradeep,a former student, volunteered to coach the team.
After three months of devoted training,we were able to send an under-19 boys’ team to compete with 50 other schools at the school handball tournament(联赛) held in Colombo. Our boys played remarkably well and reached the semi-finals(半决赛).However,in a heartbreaking turn of events, they faced a strong opponent who managed to get a narrow victory.Defeated, the boys fell to the ground, sad and disappointed. Some students from Colombo said,“Don’t cry, brothers. You must come again next year and claim your victory.” If not for the encouraging words of these students, our team may never have returned to Colombo for another tournament.
A few weeks after the defeat, with the help of Heshan,I invited Coach Vonho,a Korean professional handball coach,to our school.Vonho fulfilled his duty to the letter—I have never seen a more enthusiastic, supportive, and encouraging trainer. With his efforts, our handball team made great advances.Meanwhile, the team’s parents showed their support by preparing Vonho delicious traditional meals.

AI is getting better and better at creating illustrations, musics, movies, stories and more.Tools that have risen sharply(急剧地) in popularity since late 2022 are changing the way people create content.AI can help jumpstart a person’s creativity by offering countless ideas, almost immediately.
Kevin Baragona is the founder of Deep AI in San Francisco,California. It’s one of several AI tools people can use to generate(产生) artworks or writing in many different styles.“We’re pretty popular among the artistic community where people use us to inspire their own art,” he says.
Deep AI also makes possible entirely new types of content.Baragona says you’ll soon be able to generate Hollywood-quality movies to fit your tastes.“And the same thing with audio(音频),”he adds.“We’ll generate music just for you. It’s going to be pretty cool.”
Not everyone is happy about AI’s introduction into artistic fields, though. Some artists and writers are against their work being used to train AI models without their permission(允许).And in 2023,Hollywood screenwriters and actors went on strike(罢工),partially because of concerns about how AI-generated writing and acting could change the movie business. These walkouts ended up getting some limits about how AI can be used to write scripts(剧本) and describe actors and characters.
As people get used to AI and society establishes guidelines for its use,we might become more welcoming about its place in art.For example, consider the game of chess.AI can defeat the strongest human grandmasters at the game, yet people still play and compete. They now use AI to train and to develop new strategies.Chess is more popular than ever, and AI may be part of the reason.Visual artist Matt Saunders told the Harvard Gazette newspaper,“We should be thankful to be challenged and knocked out of our habits!”
28.What does the underlined word “jumpstart” mean in paragraph 1
A.Promote. B.Kill.
C.Lower. D.Imitate.
29.What do we know about Deep AI according to Kevin Baragona
A.Many artists may find it helpful.
B.Many artists feel challenged by it.
C.It is famous for Hollywood movies.
D.It is owned by an artistic community.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.Limits on using AI.
B.Reasons for a strike.
C.Negative attitudes to AI.
D.Worries about losing jobs.
31.What might be the author’s attitude toward using AI
A.Unclear. B.Supportive.
C.Doubtful. D.Objective.

Florida has some of the best beaches in the world.Thousands of people visit the state to enjoy the sun and the sand. But these beaches are also home to sea turtles.Female sea turtles come from the ocean and onto these beaches at night. They dig a hole, lay many eggs, and cover their eggs with sand. They use their fins(脚蹼) to crawl back across the beach and return to the ocean. However, the creatures have a hard time on beaches now.
Local volunteers and researchers in Florida take direct action to help the turtles. They look closely at the large area of sand to locate where the sea turtles laid their eggs. When they’ve figured out where the eggs were laid, they mark the beach off so that no one can enter the area and disturb the eggs. They also collect information about the nests and tracks to help scientists study sea turtles.
Another problem for sea turtles is the quick urbanization(城市化) near beaches.Bright lights on buildings near the beach can negatively impact sea turtles.Baby sea turtles usually hatch(出壳) on the sandy beach and head to the ocean. When there is bright light coming from the other side of the shore far from the ocean, the baby turtles get confused. They do not know which way to go.Many of them do not make it to the ocean and die. Now,residents who live close to a beach try to turn off their lights at night as early as possible.
Many people believe the best way to save these creatures is through organizations like the Marine Conservancy. The Marine Conservancy helps people take steps that will help reduce the threats that put sea turtles in danger.Sometimes, turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish(水母).They eat this trash and die.Florida residents can volunteer for beach clean-ups and make sure to pick up their own litter. However, sea turtles are still starving because of overfishing and climate change. These days, the organization aims to help the creatures find a new source of food by planting seagrass underwater.
32.How did volunteers help sea turtles
A.By increasing the size of beaches.
B.By tracking sea turtles’ movements.
C.By taking sea turtles’ eggs to the lab.
D.By limiting human entry to certain beaches.
33.Why is light pollution harmful to sea turtles in Florida
A.It may delay their normal growth.
B.It may harm their ability to reproduce.
C.It may disturb their hunting activities.
D.It may make them lose their sense of direction.
34.What might be the theme of the Marine Conservancy these days
A.Feeding sea turtles.
B.Cleaning up water pollution.
C.Fighting against overfishing.
D.Providing more habitats for sea turtles.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.Why Sea Turtles in Florida Face Survival Threats
B.How Residents Help Protect Sea Turtles in Florida
C.A Protection Organization Works to Improve Local Beaches
D.Florida Tries to Keep a Balance Between Urbanization and Protection

Gift baskets are a popular gift choice. The key idea behind such a basket is that you are giving someone several smaller gifts instead of a larger one. 36 And the entire package is attractively wrapped in cellophane(玻璃纸).
Gift baskets are almost always themed. They can be tailored to the recipients’(接受者) interests.Books and pens can be given to a writer.New lipstick and nail polish colors are always good choices for a make-up enthusiast. 37
A gift basket doesn’t have to be a basket. 38 This can be a chance to really highlight the theme.A gift basket for a gardening enthusiast could consist of seed packets,a nice pair of work gloves and a new gardening tool inside a terracotta pot or a watering can.For a movie fan, wrap a few DVDs and some popcorn in a fun serving bowl.
39 Pre-made gift baskets sit on the shelf already wrapped and ready for purchase. This is gift-giving at its easiest.Besides, some stores also offer gift baskets created right before your eyes. They allow you to select the items you would like in your basket, and then they’ll arrange and wrap the items for you. What’s more, you can also bring the contents home and make baskets only by yourself.Homemade ones allow you to have total control over the design.
Whether you create the gift baskets by your-self or not, they are excellent presents for any occasion. 40 They can be a unique way to express your appreciation and thoughtfulness and are sure to make the recipients feel special and appreciated.
A.Any container will do.
B.Not everyone likes small gift baskets.
C.These small items are usually packed in a container.
D.So don’t forget to make some for those you care about.
E.The best containers can be used long after the contents are gone.

I was busily preparing for our Saturday night barbecue(烧烤),a weekly tradition that brought our family together.Suddenly, our daughter Rikki stormed in through the front door, her face clouded with anger.Without a word, she marched straight to her room, leaving me with a sense of anxiety.
I looked out of the window and saw her classmate Lexi walking away sadly. My mother’s intuition(直觉) told me that this situation might need some gentle guidance. So I called Rikki out to the kitchen, hoping to start a conversation about what had happened.
Rikki stood before me with a stubborn look on her face, the kind that kids get when they know they’ve done something wrong but are too proud to admit it.“I noticed that Lexi came over, but she didn’t stay long,” I said gently.“She’s your age and goes to the same school as you.Why doesn’t she stay longer?”
Rikki said,“I don’t like her,I wish she would stop coming over here all the time. She dresses terrible, and sometimes she doesn’t smell good.”
I sighed and said,“That’s not her fault,Rikki.Maybe she doesn’t have anyone to help her with things like that. Some kids don’t have the extra things that you and your friends have. But that doesn’t make the many less worthy than you.Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.”
Rikki nodded but her expression didn’t change. Her father had been watching from the backyard where he was grilling(烧烤).He didn’t like the way Rikki had treated Lexi,so he decided to take action. He came over to me and said,“Let’s go and see Lexi.” Then he called Rikki over and asked her to get in the car.Together we drove straight to Lexi’s house.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
At Lexi’s house,Rikki was shocked to see how different her life was.
Rikki invited Lexi to come over and have dinner with us.

The following year, nobody could stop our team from winning the school handball championship in Colombo. The village were proud of our victory, appreciating the hard work and devotion shown by us all.

解析 考查非谓语动词。设空处应为非谓语动词作状语,且位于句首,首字母应大写;逻辑主语 Qinqiang与equip 之间为被动关系,所以使用过去分词。故填Equipped。
62.答案 has influenced
故填has influenced。
63.答案 With
解析 考查介词。设空处使用介词构成“with+宾语+过去分词”的复合结构。该空位于句首,开头单词首字母应大写。故填With。
64.答案 itself
解析 考查反身代词。根据句意,此处表示“不同口音导致了秦腔本身在发音、音乐等方面的细微差异”,表示“秦腔本身”用反身代词itself。故填itself。
65.答案 an
解析 考查冠词。句中play an important role in为固定短语,意为“在……方面发挥一个重要的作用”。故填an。

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
At Lexi’s house,Rikki was shocked to see how different her life was.
Rikki invited Lexi to come over and have dinner with us.
参考范文
At Lexi’s house,Rikki was shocked to see how different her life was.Entering the yard,a shabby house which stood lonely came into view and seemed to be in need of repair.Lexi’s mother welcomed us warmly, though her eyes revealed the hardship they were enduring.Inside the house, the decrepit furniture as well as the crumbling walls spoke about their financial struggles in silence.Rikki’s eyes widened as she witnessed the evident contrast between her own home and Lexi’s,making her realize how awful she was.
Rikki invited Lexi to come over and have dinner with us.At first,Lexi hesitated, but Rikki’s understanding and genuine smile convinced her.During the barbecue,Rikki introduced Lexi to everyone, ensuring she felt included. That night,as they all sat under the stars, their eyes sparkled with cheerful light, through which I could see the evident transformation in Rikki:The stubbornness had been replaced by a warm, inclusive behavior. This weekly night barbecue tradition not only brought our family together but also let Rikki learn a valuable lesson about empathy and kindness, which made the evening memorable.
