Day 1 Indonesia joins Australia with its own teen social media ban
印尼推行16岁以下社交媒体禁令 词数 370 阅读时间 7分钟
Australia banned teenagers under 16 from using social media in December 2025, becoming the world's first country to introduce such a strict rule. Now Indonesia has taken a similar step. Starting March 28, existing accounts owned by children under 16 will be gradually closed.
Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said that the move is the government's best effort to protect children from threats like harmful content, cyberbullying, online cheating and internet addiction.
Apart from these two countries, others such as France and Denmark also plan to introduce a similar ban later this year. New Zealand, Spain and Germany are also actively discussing similar measures.
However, despite good intentions, there are many concerns about the ban. In January, the UK discussed a plan to ban social media for children under 16, but the plan was rejected in March. Many officials worry that the ban might push teenagers toward unsafe websites, Metro reported. As a result, the UK government decided to start a public discussion to come up with a better plan, the BBC reported.
At the same time, Australia's ban has not worked perfectly either. While Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that around 4.7 million accounts had been closed, a report showed that more than 20 percent of 13- to 15-year-olds in Australia were still actively using social media.
Experts from Flinders University, Australia, noted that to understand the effects of the ban, attention should also be given to its impact on teenagers' mental health, academic performance, digital literacy and how they spend their time without social media. At present, there is not enough data available to fully measure the ban's impact.
The question also sparked heated discussion in China. Some deputies to the National People's Congress have suggested setting a minimum age requirement for teenagers to use social media.
Meanwhile, many experts point out that guiding young people to use social media properly is better than simply banning it.
Fang Zengquan, director of the Research Center of Teenagers' Online Literacy of Beijing Normal University, told the Beijing News that protection and guidance should be balanced.
"Keeping teenagers completely away from the internet does not work well. Instead, we should help them grow by safely using and learning from the online world," Fang said.

Day 2 How much trust should we put in AI to check art
艺术鉴定的未来:AI是助手,还是“搅局者”? 词数 364 阅读时间 7分钟
Among the world's most mysterious artworks stands The Lute Player, painted by the Italian artist Caravaggio. There are three very similar paintings, and most people cannot tell which one is the artist's original.
To art experts, there has been broad agreement that the paintings held by Russia's Hermitage Museum and France's Wildenstein Collection were created by the artist, while the one at Britain's Badminton House is only a copy.
But artificial intelligence (AI) disagreed. In September 2025, Swiss AI company Art Recognition said there's an almost 86 percent chance that Badminton House's painting is real, while Wildenstein's one is likely a copy.
This event shows AI's new role in deciding whether an artwork is real. In the past, human experts identified real artworks from copies using their deep knowledge of artists and modern technologies such as infrared imaging. Today, AI might serve as another helpful tool for experts. The technology can study small details from images of artworks. It then compares these features with real works by the same artist to find differences that experts and other scientific methods might miss.
However, many experts don't fully trust AI to identify real art. They pointed out that AI can give results without explaining how it reached them. Also, the technology is only as good as the data it's trained on, meaning both the number and quality of painting images can affect its accuracy. The Art Newspaper reported that proper AI training can require thousands of images, but few artists have produced that many works. Artists may also change their styles suddenly, so AI that only looks for fixed patterns can easily make mistakes.
As art is subjective, neither AI nor humans can be completely certain about their judgments. Currently, AI provides only the likelihood of a painting being created by a particular artist, so it shouldn't be the only method used for authentication. Instead, it should be used together with human knowledge and scientific testing to reach the most reliable results. "I strongly believe that the future of art authentication lies in the collaboration between AI and experts," Art Recognition's CEO Carina Popovici told ARTnews.

Day 3 Complex spacewalks become routine as Shenzhou crew completes tasks
太空行走“常态化”:神舟二十一号乘组第二次出舱圆满完成 词数 341 阅读时间 6分钟
On March 16, two of the three astronauts from the Shenzhou XXI mission crew successfully completed a seven-hour spacewalk outside the Tiangong space station, according to the China Manned Space Agency. This was the mission's second spacewalk and the 26th carried out by Chinese astronauts.
This "marks the transition of our country's space station extravehicular activities from being a high-risk 'exploratory challenge' to becoming a routine and efficient 'basic operation'," commented People's Daily. The three astronauts have been aboard the Tiangong space station for more than four months since arriving on Nov 1, 2025.
During the seven hours, astronauts Zhang Lu and Wu Fei went outside the Tiangong station, while Zhang Hongzhang remained inside to provide support. With help from ground controllers and the use of a robotic arm, they finished all planned tasks, including putting up shields designed to protect the station from space debris, according to China Daily.
What they've done is crucial. The European Space Agency said that there are over 1.2 million pieces of debris larger than one centimeter, any of which could cause significant damage if they hit the space station. To protect the station, astronauts are adding "armor" to external parts like pipes. This "armor" includes a metal shell, an energy-absorbing layer and a heat-resistant layer, reported Guangming Daily.
The latest spacewalk brings Zhang Lu's career total to six, tying him with Chen Dong for the most spacewalks by a Chinese astronaut.
Spacewalks might sound easy, but they actually involve extreme conditions, such as a lack of oxygen, weightlessness and significant temperature differences. According to People's Daily, China once faced challenges due to the lack of key technologies such as spacesuits and robotic arms.
After years of efforts, China has overcome these challenges. Now, the second-generation Feitian spacesuit can be used for 20 spacewalks over four years. It features a beautiful design with red or blue trim. Other breakthroughs, such as quick-response control systems and fully autonomous core components, together make astronauts' tasks outside the station much easier, according to China Daily.

Day 4 Still going strong 词数 330 建议阅读时间 6分钟
I. Pre-reading

II. Reading
Almost every Thursday during the school year, we play pickup basketball. It's been over 25 years now a minor miracle, if you ask me.
We've played so long that now, some guys bring their kids or nephews. Once upon a time, we were the kids. New players join, too friends, coworkers or former students. Some are great shooters; others just want exercise. A few know the game well, passing and shooting with skill.
Back when it first started, we played shirts vs skins. We were skinnier, younger and full of energy. We were teenagers, and the game and permit were organized by someone's uncle. I remember thinking these middle-aged guys weren't very fast, but they sure knew how to pass. They had what we called "old-man strength".
Now, we're the old guys. We handle the permit and emails. We pass the ball well and play a solid zone defense. That old-man strength, I realize now, is probably just extra weight that makes us harder to move.
Nowadays, players arrive around 8 pm, later than scheduled. Family duties, work and traffic can delay us. But we make it to the gym. We lace up, warm up and chat about life. We make teams, joke around and notice who's missing due to work or injury.
The games are competitive but friendly. We've had arguments and injuries, but mostly, it's civil. We play for pride, contesting shots, trying to end the night as winners.
The love of basketball brings us back week after week. Quick passes, easy baskets and good defense bring joy and satisfaction. I love these moments minor sporting details that are somehow sweeter now after years of experience.
More than anything, the game lets friends meet once a week to talk, catch up and exercise. It's the glue of our friendship, a ritual that keeps us connected as life gets busier and more complicated.
Twenty-five years and counting. Sure, it's just a pickup basketball game, but also a minor miracle, if you ask me.

Stepping out of your comfort zone can be a powerful experience, offering opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Here are four effective ways to break free from the familiar and welcome new challenges.
Do one thing you've always wanted to
If you have a list of things you've always wanted to do but just haven't gotten around to yet, you're not alone. Many people have so-called bucket lists filled with meaningful experiences and goals they want to accomplish.
1 . This can be anything from learning how to play the piano to learning a new language or running a marathon.
2
Try a 30-day fitness challenge like running or cycling. Fitness challenges not only push you beyond your comfort zone but also improve your physical health and well-being.
Studies show that regular exercise decreases the effects of stress on the body, lowering anxiety levels. This makes it easier for you to try things outside your comfort zone, as one of the barriers to stepping outside of it is the feeling of anxiety that it triggers.
Change up your routine
3 . But when someone does the same things every day, they start to feel like they are moving without thinking.
Changing your routine actively is one way to get out of that boring cycle. 4 . Change up your routine and try working from a cafe or a different place in your home a few times a week.
Choose a fear and face it
You need to be brave to step out of your comfort zone. 5 .
Choose one fear that's currently holding you back and face it. You can start with something small. For example, if you're afraid of public speaking, practice speaking up more during meetings or join a local Toastmasters club.
A. Take on a fitness challenge
B. Improve your mental health
C. These changes break you out of old, comfortable routines
D. Being brave is not about removing fear but moving forward despite it
E. Challenge yourself by picking one thing you've always wanted to do and doing it
F. A routine built on good habits gives people stability and helps them get things done
G. For example, say you're working remotely from the comfort of your home office every day
