The Person I Respect
The Person I Respect
My mother is my greatest inspiration.She is 47 years old and works as a cashier in a neighborhood supermarket.
I used to think her job was pretty simple,but now I realize that my mother deserves respect for doing an amazing job all these years.She works long hours every day for the sake of our family,and she still helps with household chores and spends time with me.My mother takes pride in her work.She faces and greets customers with a smile,and works hard even when she is tired.
Because of her,I have learned to stay positive even when times are hard.
One of the most pleasant sounds in sports is the whoosh of a basketball moving quickly into the netting.Take away the net and all that is left is the unsatisfying silence of a ball pushing air around as it sails through the rim(篮圈).Did it even go through?Sometimes it's hard to tell.
So it was really a shame that in a small American town to which Anibal Amador moved from New York,there was no basketball net on any basketball court in any park.The retired worker was a basketball addict and so was his son,Frank,a high school student.When they had time,they would go to the nearby playground in the park and join the players there in playing basketball.However,without the nets,it just didn't feel good and satisfactory.As a matter of fact,no one would like to play that way,for they couldn't shoot the ball to their hearts' content.Anibal often heard the players complain about it from time to time.
That was really something that bothered Anibal.One evening on their way home,he mentioned the problem to Frank,who suggested they should do something about it.Soon they took action.They took advantage of their spare time and did careful field research into the playgrounds around the neighborhood.Then Anibal visited the website of the town park department which was in charge of the basketball courts,uploaded what they had surveyed and put forward the suggestion that nets should be attached to the rims on basketball courts.
They waited and waited.After a long time,they finally got the response.The town park department said that nets were non durable goods.If they did as suggested,they would have to be putting up nets all the time and maintaining so many basketball courts was a great expense,which they couldn't afford.It wasn't workable to keep nets on all the rims in all the parks,so they were terribly sorry that they couldn't manage it.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Anibal and Frank decided to address the problem on their own.
Everything ready,they came to a nearby basketball court with a stepladder(折梯).
1.读要素
Who:Anibal Amador(a retired worker);Frank (Anibal Amador's son);the players;the town park department
Where:in a small American town
What:The basketball courts in the town did not have basketball nets on the hoop(铁环),and the father and son proposed that basketball nets should be attached to the rims,but they were rejected.
第一段:由续写第一段首句“Anibal and Frank decided to address the problem on their own.” 由续写第二段首句“Everything ready,they came to a nearby basketball court with a stepladder.”
(1)Where did they get the solutions
_______________
(2)How did they learn to make nets
_____________
on the Internet/...
see videos/...
(3)What was the process of making nets like

第二段

__________________

_________________
(3)What benefits did the net bring to people
_______________________________

__________

Anibal and Frank decided to address the problem on their own.
Everything ready,they came to a nearby basketball court with a stepladder(折梯).
Anibal and Frank decided to address the problem on their own. They surfed the Internet for possible solutions and gladly found some videos teaching people how to make nets.Having bargained with an online shop,they managed to buy many high quality cotton strings at a low price.After that,they began making nets as shown in the video.The first one took them great energy,but practice makes perfect and soon they were skilled at it.They worked hard until late into the night.Looking at their fruits of labor,they were so overwhelmed with excitement that they couldn't wait to fix them to the rims.
Everything ready,they came to a nearby basketball court with a stepladder.Frank climbed up the stepladder and carefully balanced atop it,fastening a net to a rim.Many players were attracted there,surprised but excited.All the work done,he was greeted with applause.A player ran to shoot his ball,which sailed through the net perfectly and produced a satisfying sound of whoosh.It felt so wonderful both for the player and the audience! The people in the town were very grateful for the act of kindness from Anibal and Frank,who were filled with happiness and pride every time they saw people enjoying themselves playing basketball.

(1)对数字的表达方式不够熟悉。如an hour and a half behind schedule=an hour and a half later=to be delayed for an hour and a half;
(2)没有注意形容词、副词的比较等级所代表的含义。如later, more, earlier, as old as, older等;
(3)需注意区分发音相近的数字。如eight thirty表示8:30 eighteen thirty表示18:30;
When...?What time...?What day...?At what time...?How long...?How much...?How old...?How soon...?How many...?How often...?How far away...?等。
(1)要听清楚这些数字及它们之间的关系。就时间题而言, 在掌握时间表达方法的基础上,首先要听清时间与事件发生时间之间的关系(关注与时间有关的副词), 尤其要注意时间上的提前和推后, 然后再进行正确的换算。高频词汇如more/less,late/early,fast/slow,before/after等;
(2)注意表示数的存在或引起数的变化的动词,数字间的加减关系由它们决定。 高频词汇如be, have, start/begin,spend, miss/postpone, leave, increase/add, decrease, borrow/lend等;
(3)注意 teen和 ty 的区别和千以上数字的辨别;
(4)注意街道、房间、汽车等号码的习惯表达方法,如320读成three twenty/three two zero,电话号码则将数字逐个读出来;
(5)注意年代、世纪在口头与书面表达上的差异。如20世纪写成in the 1900s; in the eighteen forties 应理解为19世纪40年代;
(6)注意倍数意义的表达。如times, twice, couple, a pair of, half of, double, one third, quarter, percentage,quarter=15 minutes, fortnight=two weeks, dawn=daybreak, dusk=time just before it gets quite black, decade=ten years等;
(7)注意如late(later), early(earlier), delay, postpone, start, fast, slow, add, increase, ahead of, in advance, a couple of days, a few days, be on time, be on schedule, behind schedule, put off等与时间数字有关的单词和短语,以帮助理解和计算。
