Behrman was a painter, but a failure in art. Although his life was hard, he had always been about to paint a masterpiece (杰作), but had never yet begun it. He made little money by serving as a model (模特) to the young artists who could not pay the price of a professional. Among those young artists were Sue and Johnsny.
One day, Sue told Behrman the serious illness of Johnsny. As she lay in bed, she would watch the ivy leaves (常春藤叶) fall from the old vine (藤蔓) outside her window.
“When the last leaf falls,” Sue said in a low voice. “She said that she would go, too.”
“Foolishness!” Behrman shouted. “Someday I will paint a masterpiece and we will live a life of success. Got it!”
At night, they paid a visit to Johnsny. She was sleeping at that time. Inside her room, they looked out of the window fearfully at the last leaf on the vine. A cold rain was falling, mixed with snow. The drops were beating heavily against the shaking leaf.
Johnsy woke up the next morning. She found the leaf was still on the vine, brave and green against the gray wall. Another night passed, stormy and cold, but the leaf still survived.
Not long after, the doctor said Johnsny was out of danger. However, old Behrman passed away because of pneumonia (肺炎).
And that afternoon, Sue came to Johnsny’s bed.
“I have something to tell you, Miss Johnsny,” she said. “Mr. Behrman had been ill for only two days. When he was found by the janitor (门卫), he was helpless with pain. His shoes and clothes were all wet through and icy cold. And then a lantern, still lighted, a ladder and some brushes with green and yellow colors were found. Look out the window, dear, at the last ivy leaf on the wall. Didn’t you wonder why it never moved when the wind blew ”

Imagine mountains covered with silver water, shining in the spring sun. Summer sees the mountains turn bright green with growing rice. During autumn these mountains are gold, while winter blankets them with white snow. These are the colours of the Longji Rice Terraces (梯田).
These terraces were built by the local Zhuang and Yao people. Starting in the Yuan Dynasty, work on the terraces took hundreds of years and was finished in the early Qing Dynasty.
So why did these people work so hard to turn the entire mountains into terraces Firstly, there is little flat land for farming. Building terraces allows them to grow more rice. Secondly, although the area gets plenty of rain, the mountains are steep (陡峭的) and the soil is thin. The flat terraces help to catch the rainwater and prevent the soil from being washed away.
To our surprise, the terraces show how people have worked in harmony with nature. The design is really clever. Hundreds of waterways are connected with each other. During the rainy season, rainwater moves along these waterways from the top of the mountains down to every terrace. The sun heats the water and turns it into vapour. This creates clouds and then brings rain back to the terraces. These terraces also provide a perfect home for birds and fish. Some of these animals eat insects that can harm the rice plants.
Modern technology could help produce more rice, but the traditional ways are still very important to the local people. This knowledge is passed down through families, which means that new generations continue to use ancient methods of farming to maintain the terraces. Today, the Longji Rice Terraces attract thousands of visitors who come to admire this great wonder created by people and nature working together.
( )26. Which period shows when the Longji Rice Terraces were built

( )27. Why did Zhuang and Yao people build the Longji Rice Terraces
①To catch the birds and fish for food. ②To create more flat land for growing rice.
③To attract tourists and develop the economy. ④To prevent soil from being washed away by rain.
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ③④ D. ②④
( )28. What can we learn from the last paragraph about the local people
They value their ancient farming knowledge.
B. They want to replace the terraces with new farms.
C. They depend only on tourists to maintain the terraces.
D. They prefer modern technology to traditional methods.

① Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is becoming popular around the world. Many health food stores sell Chinese herbs, and most cities have acupuncture (针灸) clinics. Some Western doctors even recommend TCM for certain problems, like using acupuncture for back pain or herbal tea for sleep issues.
②In China. TCM is very common. About 28% of all medicine sold is herbal (草药), and there are over 4,000 TCM hospitals. However, many people outside China don’t know much about how TCM works.
③TCM has a long history. While other ancient cultures thought evil spirits caused illness, Chinese doctors believed sickness came from natural causes and could be cured with natural remedies. A famous early doctor was Bian Que, who created the basic TCM diagnostic method that doctors still use today. They look at the patient’s face and tongue, listen to their breathing, ask about symptoms, and check their pulse.
④TCM is based on several key ideas. The first is qi, the life energy flowing through our bodies. Then there’s yin and yang—opposite forces that need to be balanced. Yin represents cool and dark qualities, while yang stands for heat and light. Health depends on keeping these forces in balance. Another concept is the Five Elements Theory, which connects body parts to wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.
⑤TCM treatments include herbal medicines and acupuncture. Herbs are chosen based on their properties—some are warming, others cooling. Different flavors like spicy or bitter also affect how the medicine works. Acupuncture uses thin needles placed at specific points along energy paths called meridians to help qi flow better.
⑥Today, TCM is accepted in over 50 countries. UNESCO has recognized acupuncture as an important cultural heritage. Some Chinese herbs have been proven effective in scientific studies. For example, artemisinin (青蒿素) from qinghao is now used worldwide to treat malaria (疟疾).
⑦While Western medicine focuses on quick results, TCM offers gentle, gradual healing. Both systems have value, and many doctors now see them as complementary (相辅相成的) ways to treat patients and maintain health.
( )29. How does the writer prove TCM is common in China
A. By listing numbers. B. By showing pictures. C. By giving examples. D. By presenting reasons.
( )30. What can we learn about TCM according to the passage
A. TCM is based on three kinds of key ideas. B. TCM has quick and lasting effects on patients.
C. TCM is recommended to solve most problems. D. TCM has little connection with nature but a lot with culture.
( )31. The following paragraph can best go after ______.
About 2,000 years ago, medical knowledge was collected in a book called Huangdi Neijing. This was the first medical text to describe blood circulation—centuries before Western medicine discovered it.
A. Paragraph 2 B. Paragraph 3 C. Paragraph 4 D. Paragraph 5
( )32. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To sell TCM products to foreigners. B. To compare TCM with Western medicine.
C. To prove TCM is more effective in treatment. D. To make TCM more popular around the world.

Hello there! I’m one of the Unitree(宇树) G1 humanoid robots. Let me tell you my story, straight from my own metal-and-motor heart.
____ Since day one, engineers at Unitree dreamed big: robots that could balance, sprint (全速奔跑), leap and adapt. They gave me LiDAR, depth cameras and advanced motion control systems, and taught me how to stand firm, walk steadily, and finally dance.
Robots like me practised hard before the night of 16 February, when hundreds of millions tuned in to watch the 2026 Spring Festival Gala.
Then came the moment. I stepped onto one of the world’s brightest stages, right on cue with my fellow robots, we were there to perform.
At one point, I leapt into the air and flipped before landing squarely on my feet. The audience watched in awe before breaking into applause (掌声). Some of us even performed moves inspired by kung fu—all while children shared the stage with us.
At one dramatic moment, one of us suddenly fell flat on his back. Just as the audience began to wonder what was happening, he rose smoothly to his feet. It turned out to be a trick—a classic drunken boxing move.
Last year, robots first appeared at the Spring Festival Gala, twirling handkerchiefs and performing simple movements. We’ve improved a lot since then!
Videos of this year’s show have gone viral (走红网络的) online. People replay the flips. They slow down the kicks. “It looks like something straight out of a sci-fi film,” one comment reads. At the same time, they ask, “What will robots do next ”
That question excites me. Because the gala stage is only the beginning. In the future, robots like me may work in places where people need extra hands, such as care settings and disaster zones.
And of course, some of us may remain in entertainment and education—performing, teaching, inspiring curiosity in children who look at us and think, “I want to build something like that one day.”
The gala was my debut (首次亮相). The future is my next stage. And I am ready to step forward.
( )33. Which of the following fits best in the ____
I wasn’t built to sit quietly on a shelf.
B. I was created in a large factory in China.
C. People often believe robots are only cold machines.
D. Many robots are built for display rather than action.
( )34. The drunken boxing move was designed to ______.
test whether the robot could recover from a fall
B. create a surprising moment for the audience
C. show the robot’s control over its movements
D. introduce the robot’s new performance style
( )35. How does the writer show the robots’ progress
A. By giving detailed numbers about their training. B. By explaining how engineers improved the robots.
C. By describing their appearance in a scientific way. D. By comparing this year’s show with last year’s.
( )36. Why does the writer tell the story in the first person
A. To explain technical details more clearly. B. To show how robots are controlled.
C. To make the story more personal and lively. D. To present the gala in a relaxed tone.
