The 2026 Spring Festival is the most unforgettable one for me. I spent it with my grandparents in their small village in Shandong, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I hadn’t been back for three years due to busy high school study, and this time I decided to stay with them and experience the traditional rural Spring Festival.
When I arrived, grandma was busy making jiaozi and fried dough twists, my favorite festival food. She told me that every step of making jiaozi has a special meaning, symbolizing a happy and prosperous new year. Grandpa was writing Spring Festival couplets with a writing brush, a skill he has kept for over 40 years. Unlike the printed couplets in the city, his hand-written ones are full of warmth and sincerity.
On New Year’s Eve, the whole family gathered around the table for a big dinner. We ate jiaozi, watched the Spring Festival Gala, and chatted about the past year’s stories. At midnight, we set off firecrackers together, and the sound of firecrackers and laughter filled the small village. On the first day of the Lunar New Year, I followed grandpa to visit relatives and neighbors, and received red envelopes with sincere wishes.
During the Spring Festival, I also joined the villagers to make sugar paintings and paper-cuts, traditional folk handcrafts. This Spring Festival made me realize that the true meaning of the festival is not the fancy gifts or grand celebrations, but the family company and the inheritance of traditional customs. In this fast-paced digital age, these simple and warm traditional festival moments are the most precious.
4. Why did the writer go back to the countryside for the 2026 Spring Festival?
A. To avoid the city’s hustle and bustle.
B. To learn to make traditional folk handcrafts.
C. To stay with grandparents and experience rural Spring Festival.
D. To receive red envelopes from relatives and neighbors.
5. What does the underlined word “hustle and bustle” probably mean in Paragraph 1?
A. Peaceful and quiet life. B. Busy and noisy life.
C. Simple and ordinary life. D. Colorful and lively life.
6. What did the writer do on the first day of the Lunar New Year?
A. Made jiaozi and fried dough twists with grandma.
B. Wrote Spring Festival couplets with grandpa.
C. Set off firecrackers with the whole family.
D. Visited relatives and neighbors with grandpa.
7. What did the writer learn from this special Spring Festival?
A. Hand-written Spring Festival couplets are more beautiful than printed ones.
B. The true meaning of the festival is family company and traditional custom inheritance.
C. Rural Spring Festival is more interesting than city Spring Festival.
D. Traditional folk handcrafts are easy to learn and popular among young people.
C
I recently made a new friend, and we became Instagram mutuals right away. From her posts, I was getting a sense of what she does on the weekends and what she likes to cook. As I learned about her hobbies and how many brothers she has, I also noticed how much the act of sharing personal details has developed. Who needs to know what she’s buying at the farmer’s market or how long she waited for the subway? But none of her followers bat an eye, and they shared similarly about their activities.
One definition of oversharing put forward by a 2012 psychology paper is that it’s an “excessive generosity with information about one’s private life or the private lives of others”. Of course, what’s considered “excessive” is open to interpretation. Influencers, for example, share a lot because they’re getting paid to do so. But with the Internet, non-influencers gained more spaces to share and overshare.
The ways and amount people share online can differ from their offline lives. The sociologist Ben Agger wrote in the book Oversharing: Presentations of Self in the Internet Age that a person oversharing online is revealing “more of their inner feelings and opinions than they would in person, or even over the phone”. Oversharing can come with negative mental side effects because it can influence actual life experiences. For example, at a gathering, a person might become focused on taking a good picture for social media. Then he loses the real pleasure of spending time with his friend.
Yet revealing information about ourselves is part of how we communicate who we are. So sharing online isn’t a bad thing: When interacting in person or online, people seek to learn about each other. It’s not just nosiness: This information helps define what people can expect from one another, and what their relationship will be.
Agger wrote that just like a play involves a stage and a backstage, social life does, too. The front is where the actor performs, and backstage is where they prepare for the role. It’s easy to apply these thoughts to the Internet and social media: The Internet is the stage where we present our activities and thoughts, and backstage is offline. Spend too much time in either place, and you might miss out.
8. Why does the author mention the new friend in paragraph 1?
A. To lead in the main topic. B. To share her personal information.
C. To persuade people to be her followers. D. To encourage people to hold activities.
9. What can be inferred about oversharing from the second paragraph?
A. People always overshare in social life.
B. The standard of oversharing is unfixed.
C. Non-influencers pay to overshare personal details.
D. Influencers have more spaces to overshare online.
10. What negative mental side effect of oversharing is mentioned in the text?
A. Disliking offline communication.
B. Having fewer friends in real life.
C. Forgetting to prepare for social gatherings.
D. Losing real-life pleasures while focusing on social media.
11. According to Agger, what can the Internet and social media be seen as?
A. A backstage of social life. B. A place where we present ourselves.
C. A replacement for offline communication. D. A place where we should spend most of our time.
D
From Mozart to Metallica, tons of people enjoy listening to various types of music while they paint, write, or draw. Most believe that music helps increase creativity, but an international study conducted by English and Swedish researchers is challenging that view. The study results were echoed by scientists from Lancaster University, and the University of Gavle, saying their findings show music actually weakens creativity.
To reach their conclusions (结论), researchers had volunteers complete verbal (口头的) problems designed to inspire creativity while sitting in a quiet room, and then again while music played in the background. They found that background music significantly weakened the volunteers’ ability to complete tasks connected with verbal creativity. The team also tested background noises like those commonly heard in a library, but found that such noises had no influence on subjects’ creativity.
The tasks were simple word games. For example, volunteers were given three words, such as dress, rise, and flower. Then, they were asked to find a single word connected with all three that could be combined (结合) to form a common phrase or word. The single word, in this case, would be “sun” (sundress, sunrise, sunflower). Volunteers completed the tasks in either a quiet room, or while listening to two different types of music: rock music or light music
“We found strong evidence of weakened performance when playing background music in comparison to quiet background conditions,” says co-author D. Neil McLatchie of Lancaster University. He and his colleagues find that music negatively influences the verbal working memory processes of the brain, preventing creativity. Also, as far as the library background noises having seemingly (似乎) no effect, the study’s authors believe that was the case because library noises create a “regular state” environment that doesn’t affect concentration.
“To conclude, the findings here challenge the popular view that music increases creativity, and instead show that music, whatever type it is, is always a disadvantage for creative performance in problem solving,” the study reads.
12. What does the underlined word “echoed” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Challenged B. Accepted C. Doubted D. Heard
13. What were the volunteers asked to do in the study?
A. To play music. B. To combine given words.
C. To create new words. D. To connect words with music.
14. What can we infer from the study?
A. Quiet background inspires creativity best. B. Library noise does no harm to creativity.
C. Music has a bad effect on language ability. D. Music types matter in creative performance.
15. Which is the main idea of the passage?
A. Quiet Environments Prevent Concentration. B. Background Noise Affects Concentration.
C. Composing Music Weakens Creativity. D. Listening to Music Reduces Creativity.

When my daughters reached third and fourth grades, I sometimes allowed them to walk to and from school alone if the weather permitted. One warm spring day, a small friend followed them home after school. This friend had short legs and long floppy (松垂的) ears, with a furry coat and tiny spots across her nose. She was the cutest puppy I had ever seen and my girls begged me to keep her.
She was not more than twelve weeks old. She had no identifying marks of any sort. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about running an ad in the Lost and Found but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. Besides, her owners should have watched her more closely, I thought.
By the end of the week she was part of our family. She was very clever and good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the Lost and Found section in the local paper. One particular ad caught my attention and my heart sank. Someone was searching for a lost puppy near our grade school. He sounded desperate. My hands shook. I could not ask myself to pick up the phone.
Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the ad. I quickly put the paper aside and tried to ignore it. I never said anything about it to the kids or my husband.
We named the puppy Molly. She followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, she was one step behind them. When they did housework, she was there to help.
There was only one problem with this perfect dog: My conscience (良心) was bothering me. I knew in my heart I had to call that number and see if our Molly was the puppy the person was desperately looking for.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone.

答案】Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m Li Hua. I’m writing to express my sincere thanks for organizing the online English reading activity. It has greatly broadened my horizons and improved my reading skills.
To make the activity even better, I have two small suggestions. First, could we add a 10-minute sharing session after reading to exchange ideas? Second, it would be helpful if you could recommend reading materials of different difficulty levels to suit students’ various needs.
I hope my suggestions are useful. Thanks again for your hard work!
Best regards,
Li Hua

With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. Secretly I was praying no one would answer, but a woman did. As I described the dog to her in detail, her voice shook with excitement and she wanted to come over right away. Within minutes I heard a vehicle stop at the driveway and some footsteps stop at the door. Head cradled in my hands and heart hammering, I had a thousand thoughts crossing my mind: I could pretend I wasn’t home or tell her “I’m sorry you have the wrong address”. But it was too late. The bell rang and Molly was barking.
Opening the door, I saw a woman with a little girl sitting in a small wheelchair. One look at Molly, the little girl’s face lit up. “Here, Lucy,” she yelled. “Come here!” Molly instantly obeyed, wagging her tail wildly. My heart sank. Seemingly sensing my feelings, the woman explained that Lucy (Molly) was more than just a puppy to her daughter, who was left crippled for life in an accident. “Lucy gave her a reason to live,” she choked. Suddenly I felt relieved. As they pulled out of the drive, I smiled, knowing I had done the right thing—that puppy was exactly where she belonged.
