Studies have shown that writing by hand can have enormous(极大的) beneficial impacts in terms of memory, brain development, and even the quality of writing itself.
Some might say that handwriting has become a dying art since the advent of the typewriter in the mid-1880s,even more so due to computers. In fact, nowadays, some schools in the United States no longer require teaching handwriting as a part of the main courses. However, despite the sense that writing on paper is out of fashion,it actually has a number of very important strengths.
Writing by hand is not only important for language processing and memory, but it is also important for mental development. In learning to write by hand, the human brain must combine feeling, movement control, and thinking. For whatever reason,it does not do so when learning to type.
Writing by hand is good for mental health, and there are some studies that can prove it.Writing on paper can help students recall material better than typing on a keyboard.Similarly,a study from 2014 shows that compared to writing by hand, taking notes on a laptop results in a less deep absorption of the learned material. This is because when using a laptop, students will often type out lectures word for word instead of processing information and rewording it in their own language.
These advantages actually translate to how you recall the information. In this case, writing by hand instead of typing also helps students do better on exams.Children write longer and more complex essays when they are writing by hand, compared with using a keyboard.Children usually do better writing with a pen when they write essays. They write more and faster.
The next time you want to sit down to write an email to a loved one,why not try writing a handwritten letter instead? It can be more beneficial to your brain.Plus, the personal touch of a handwritten letter can make your message even more special and memorable.
1.What does the underlined word “advent” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Rent. B.Request.
C.Alarm. D.Appearance.
根据画线词下文“In fact,nowadays...as a part of the main courses.”
2.What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about handwriting
A.Its advantages. B.Its types.
C.Its development. D.Its requirements.
答案 A
故选A。
3.What happens when students use a laptop instead of a pen to take notes
A.They recall more words.
B.They do better in writing essays.
C.They are less confident about their exams.
D.They have a lower understanding of the material.
根据第四段中“Similarly...results in a less deep absorption of the learned material. This is because when using a laptop, students will often type out lectures word for word instead of processing information and rewording it in their own language.”
4.What is the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph
A.To make a suggestion.
B.To express thanks.
C.To honour loved ones.
D.To share a personal experience.
答案 A
故选A。
Making decisions is a difficult skill. There are always things to consider and the results might not be obvious for months, when it’s hard to connect our decision to the impact it has. Some people might overly struggle with their choices, resulting in a sense of indecisiveness. 1 Here are some guidelines to help simplify the decision-making process.
Narrow the options down. One problem with decisions is the endless choices we face, such as when you imagine yourself looking through a streaming platform.Should you watch this action comedy or that romantic drama? 2 When you narrow down your choices, you can focus on the remaining ones to identify the ideal solution.
3 Being pressured into making a decision quickly is often a red flag.Don’t rush too much to do it,and give yourself permission to think about things; on the other hand, some people will be endlessly anxious about a decision if there isn’t a time limit in some way.If you’re the type to think and overthink something, establish a deadline(最后期限) for yourself and commit to sticking to it.
Talk things through.A good rule for decisions is to take part in discussions with others. 4 You don’t want to go to people who always discourage you or those who will cheer blindly for every option. You are aware of whom you can rely on for various decisions throughout your life.
Remember nothing is everlasting.Something that keeps us in the fear of indecision is the feeling that whatever decision we make,it will apply forever.Bear in mind that you can always rethink the situation and seek another path,as very few aspects of life genuinely never change. 5
A.Request additional time.
B.Take time but set a time limit.
C.You can find better ways to change course.
D.Consider approaches to cutting them down.
E.However,it’s important to find a trustworthy advisor.
F.Just allow yourself to reconsider if your choice fails.
G.Others may find it upsetting to make impactful choices.

5.答案 F
解析 根据上文“Remember nothing is everlasting...as very few aspects of life genuinely never change.”
