第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Four Works of Art Across Time
These four artworks, created in different times, show how artists express people, light, and history in unique ways.
Girl with the Red Hat
By Johannes Vermeer
Girl with the Red Hat is one of Johannes Vermeer’s smallest works, and it is painted on a wooden panel (板) rather than on his customary canvas (画布). The girl turns in her chair and looks straight at the viewer, which creates a strong sense of connection. The artist’s skillful use of color is this painting’s most striking characteristic, for both its compositional and its psychological effects.
Georgia O’Keeffe — Hands and Thimble
By Alfred Stieglitz
This photograph focuses on hands instead of a face. Stieglitz believed that a part of the body could still show a person’s true self. The hands move gently over dark cloth, holding a needle, while one finger wears a thimble. Stieglitz’s innovative approach to composing, cropping, and printing photographs made him an influential figure in 20th-century art.
Woman with a Parasol-Madame Monet and Her Son
By Claude Monet
The artist’s wife Camille stands on a hill with their son Jean behind her. Monet worked quickly to record this moment. The sky is painted with loose and quick strokes, while the grass is thicker and more detailed. Small touches of yellow suggest flowers in the field. Light falls on the woman’s dress, especially the white parts, making them shine. Completed in a single outdoor session, this is a celebration of color and light.
The Mill
By Rembrandt van Rijn
In the 19th century, viewers considered Rembrandt’s painting of The Mill to be one of the master’s greatest creations. They celebrated the dramatic outline of the post-mill against a dark, stormy sky, unaware that the romantic aura and rich golden tone of the scene were caused by darkened and discolored varnish (清漆). They owed the heavy atmosphere to Rembrandt’s frame of mind in the period of the mid-1650s, when he encountered severe financial difficulties.
1. What is special about Girl with the Red Hat?
A. It is painted on a board. B. It focuses on outdoor scenes.
C. It only uses dark colors. D. It shows more than one figure.
2. What can be known about Woman with a Parasol?
A. It features detailed faces. B. It catches a short-lived scene.
C. It avoids natural elements. D. It is created in an indoor studio.
3. In which part of the newspaper can you find the text?
A. Culture. B. Technology.
C. Environment. D. History.
B
For many students in special education programs, school spirit and typical extracurricular experiences can look very different. There are no team sweaters, no cheerleading uniforms, and often fewer opportunities to take part in activities many students enjoy. That reality stayed with Wes Massey, a special education teacher in Georgia — and he decided to do something about it.
“A lot of our kids don’t get to participate in things like basketball or cheerleading,” Massey explained. “I want these kids to enjoy what other kids would enjoy,” he added. With the help of volunteers and donations, Massey surprised 31 students in the state’s alternate assessment program — and their families — with something many had never experienced before: their first overnight trip.
The destination was Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange, Georgia, and families didn’t have to pay a single dollar. Transportation, meals, lodging, and activities were all fully covered. Planning the trip required extensive coordination. Multiple buses and support vehicles were arranged to accommodate students with complex medical needs, including those requiring oxygen or feeding tubes.
When families arrived, the surprises continued. Each student received gift cards at check-in, giving them the chance to make choices independently — including buying their own lunches. Students and families also enjoyed activities that many were experiencing for the very first time, like family putt-putt golf and other interactive games at the resort.
Support for the trip extended beyond the school system. As the buses traveled, the county sheriff (警长) personally escorted (护送) them, which fully demonstrated the entire community’s full support for these students.
For Massey, the message was simple but powerful. “I know life has been hard and there have been challenges,” he said. “But we are going to do everything we can to make sure you’re included, you’re important, and that you matter.”
4. What can we know about special education students?
A. They perform poorly in study. B. They lack typical school activities.
C. They refuse to wear team uniforms. D. They dislike extracurricular activities.
5. What did Massey want to achieve through this trip?
A. Gaining experience in guiding students. B. Promoting Great Wolf Lodge to families.
C. Providing equal enjoyment for his students. D. Winning recognition from the school board.
6. Which can best replace the underlined word “coordination” in paragraph 3?
A. Organization. B. Separation. C. Competition. D. Ambition.
7. Which of the following can best describe Massey?
A. Wise and courageous. B. Creative and ambitious.
C. Sincere and talented. D. Considerate and responsible.
C
The decline of lions and pandas often captures global attention, but a quieter and potentially more damaging crisis is unfolding among small mammals. These tiny animals are disappearing at alarming rates, and their loss can have outsized consequences for biodiversity. Small mammals are powerful indicators of environmental health, yet tracking them has long been a challenge because many species occupy different ecological roles while looking almost exactly alike.
This challenge is illustrated by the two species used to test a new footprint technique: Bushveld sengis (象鼩) and Eastern Rock sengis. Although they appear nearly the same, they live in different habitats and face different environmental pressures. While the two sengi species look alike, their feet are not exactly the same. Tiny differences in foot shape leave distinct patterns in the footprints they make.
Researchers have now developed a new way to identify and monitor these animals by analyzing their footprints. The research team from Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment focused on capturing and analyzing these differences, training a computer model to recognize which footprints belonged to which species. By treating footprint identification like a digital tracking problem, the scientists aimed to replace invasive (侵入的) and expensive monitoring methods with a faster and more practical alternative.
High - resolution images of the footprints were analyzed by using special software that measured shape and size characteristics. From this analysis, nine key footprint features were selected and tested against previously unseen images and sets of tracks. Across all trials, the system correctly identified the species 94 percent to 96 percent of the time.
The results show that footprint analysis can offer a simple, affordable, and non-invasive way to confirm species presence and track changes in population size and geographic range. The research team plans to expand the approach to other species by training new models with additional datasets. They also hope to compare footprint analysis with other non-invasive monitoring techniques to see how different tools can work together.
8. Why does the author mention lions and pandas at the beginning?
A. To criticize the public’s preference for large animals.
B. To show the ignorance of small mammals’ conservation.
C. To compare the living habits of different animal species.
D. To highlight the importance of large mammals research.
9. What can be inferred about Eastern Rock sengis and Bushveld sengis?
A. They live in the same habitats. B. They belong to the same species.
C. They need conserving differently. D. They have developed similar habits.
10. What does the author imply about traditional monitoring methods?
A. They are too complex to operate.
B. They distinguish different species well.
C. They will be replaced by digital ways.
D. They may disturb the tracked animals.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Ignored Decline Crisis of Small Mammals
B. Effective Ways to Distinguish Similar Small Mammals
C. Challenges in Tracking Environmentally Critical Species
D. A Novel Footprint Method for Tracking Small Mammals
D
There comes a point in many a parent’s life when their sweet child begins to fire back with cutting remarks and sarcastic (嘲讽的) behaviour that’s enough to make parents want to go into hiding for the foreseeable future.
Why are teens mean sometimes? According to Counselling Directory member Ana Hristov, teens still lack emotional control, and the part of the brain that deals with reasoning and planning is still developing. That can result in poor filtering (过滤) and general directness that may come across as rude, touchy and sometimes even mean. On top of all, their nervous system is maturing, meaning teens can experience a heightened sensitivity to stress, which can make them overreact to the situations, with small triggers (诱因) leading to big reactions.
Another factor for the big change around this time has to do with the normal process of slowly distancing from family in favour of peers (同龄人), where they go through great efforts to fit in and avoid being viewed by their peers negatively. Social media and study pressure add an extra layer of complexity to the mix.
It’s OK to let this kind of behaviour slide occasionally to avoid not getting into a constant cycle of negative interactions. But Hristov cautioned that if the rude behaviour is directed at siblings (兄弟姐妹), for instance, parents need to pull up on it immediately as your other children need a visible demonstration of you taking a firm stand, and it must be made clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated in your home.
However, immediate punishment can sometimes make the situation even worse. Similarly, responses rooted in further shaming or sarcasm will increase defensiveness rather than encourage reflection. Hristov’s advice for parents in this position is to respond, rather than react. Try to remain calm, reflecting on what might be underneath the comment. Revisit the conversation when everything’s calm. Lastly, parenting teens is hard work so it’s vital that you take time out to recharge your batteries.
12. What does Ana Hristov say about teenagers’ rude behaviour?
A. It reflects their desire for independence.
B. It is mainly affected by social media.
C. It is a reminder of improper parenting.
D. It results from their immature brain.
13. What can be inferred about teens’ distancing from family?
A. It results from negative peer judgement.
B. It potentially brings about study pressure.
C. It is a natural part of their development.
D. It leads to long-term family breakdown.
14. What is Ana Hristov’s view about teenagers being mean to their siblings?
A. They need to be stopped by their parents immediately.
B. They will eventually grow out of it naturally.
C. They may be trying to fit in with their peers.
D. They are likely to stick to their firm stand.
15. What is Ana Hristov’s advice about parenting teenagers?
A. It ought to be strictly disciplined.
B. It requires empathy and self-care.
C. It involves always maintaining distance.
D. It demands constant negative interactions.

Last month, our school arranged a science exhibition, and everyone was excited to show their creative projects. My best friend, Sara, and I were planning to work together, but our teacher reorganized the groups and, unfortunately, we were separated. I decided to make a unique project — a solar-powered water cleaning model — and discussed the core design secrets with Sara.
Later, I accidentally learned that she told the members of her new group about my idea during a project discussion. The leader of her group, a girl named Megan, was thrilled and thought my project idea was very unique. She immediately decided to adopt my idea as their own design. When Sara realized the seriousness of the situation, she firmly refused to share the full design details I had shown her, saying, “This project idea belongs to my best friend!” But Megan refused to listen, insisting they could figure out the mechanics themselves based on what Sara had already mentioned. Sara told me immediately and I became annoyed with her. “Why did you tell my idea to others? Were you deliberately doing that?” I cried. Our friendship felt like it was hanging by a thread.
In the following days, Sara explained that she was doing her best to persuade her new team not to present the same project as mine. She tried to explain her position and sincerely apologized for her mistake, but I ignored her and kept blaming her. Days passed, and I still didn’t talk to Sara.
During the rest days of preparation, all teams devoted themselves greatly to their projects and made use of all moments and resources to improve their performance and perfect their presentations. I noticed Sara’s team was often in heated arguments. Sara looked exhausted and spent all her free time doing research in the laboratory. The exhibition was drawing nearer and nearer; the school was filled with enthusiastic discussions about the upcoming science exhibition.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, the day of the science exhibition arrived.

Finally, the day of the science exhibition arrived. The school hall was packed with students and colourful displays. Every group was busy presenting their works, hoping to win the award. When it was time for Sara and her group to present their project, I waited with nervousness, expecting to see a copy of my project. However, I was shocked to find that their presentation was completely different from mine. At that moment, I realized that Sara had successfully persuaded her group members.
My heart felt heavy with guilt, and I immediately went to ask Sara about their new project. Before I could even speak, Sara smiled weakly and said, “I apologize to you again. I shouldn’t have told others about your ideas. I did my best to prevent them from using your ideas.” She told me that she spent several nights researching the new project in order to convince her team and that she couldn’t let our friendship be stolen away. I nodded with tears in my eyes, realizing true friendship means guarding each other and fixing mistakes bravely together.
