The definition, history, purposes of avatars and people’s different views on avatars
【Why】
To guide readers to wisely use avatars to socialise online, and to raise their awareness of information safety

Exposition (definition, examples, interpretation)
2. Analysis of target students
Strengths:
Familiar with social networking apps and avatars;
Interested in learning more about avatars
Weaknesses:
Knowledge of avatars is not deep enough;
Difficult to express their opinions clearly
3. Lesson objectives, teaching focus and difficulty
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Identify and arrange the information about avatars, including the definition, history, purposes and people’s different views. (Understanding)
2. Analyze people’s different attitudes towards avatars and the underlying reasons. (Applying)
3. Discuss the examples of the risks of using avatars and formulate suggestions to avoid the risks. (Creating)

Step 2: Read for General Ideas
From what aspects does the author talk about avatars Ask students to match each part with corresponding headlines.
Step 3: Read for Details
Students complete the table below and share their answers with partners.
II. Activities at the level of applying Step 4: Read for Deep Thinking
Guide students to read the last paragraph and then answer questions:
What are people’s attitudes towards avatars
Why do people think so Try to analyze the reasons.
III. Activities at the level of creating
Step 5: Group discussion
Get students to discuss the following questions:
Are there any risks of using avatars Please give examples.
What can we do to avoid such risks Give suggestions. Step 6: Homework
