Do you love to read TFK Kid Reporters do too! Gabri Blankson shared her review s of The World Belonged
to Us, one of the summer's most interesting books. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading!
What is the book about
A young girl from Brooklyn enjoys summer fun with her friends. The book is based on the writer's life.As a

At eleven the next night I bring one hundred thousand dollars in
banknotes to the police station and put them into the chief's(警长)hands.
He takes the money and leaves, with a confident look in his eyes. The next
hour passes slowly and when I hear his footsteps I get up to meet him. His
eyes are happy as he says. "We' ve made an agreement! Follow me!"
He picks up a candle and walks down into the basement of the
building. SixtyMark Twain detectives(侦探)always sleep here, and a
group of them are playing cards when we come into the room. I follow
him as he walks quickly to the far end of the basement. It is dark and
frightening and there is a very bad smell. I feel sick and want to go back. Suddenly Detective Blunt falls over a
large object, shouting as he falls:"Here is your elephant!"
Someone carries me to the office above, where I come to my senses once again. Reporters arrive and
detectives open bottles of champagne and shake hands and talk warmly.
Naturally the chief is the hero and his happiness is complete. I am happy for him although now I am like a
beggar, my elephant is dead, and I have no job. Many people congratulate the chief and many detectives say,
"Look at him, the greatest man of the police. There isn't anything that he can't find."
The happy detectives share the fifty thousand dollars and the chief says, as he puts his share into his
pocket:"Enjoy it, boys; you've earned it. And more than that, you've made the police force famous."
And so the mystery of the stolen elephant is solved. The next day the newspapers are full of good words.
But, The poor elephant Hassan is lost forever. When he was shot he went into the dark, unfriendly place in
the fog, and there, surrounded by his enemies and constant danger of detection, he died of hunger.
The"agreement" cost me one hundred thousand dollars; my detective expenses(费用)were forty-two
thousand dollars more. I lost my job. I am a ruined man and a wanderer on the earth. But I still admire that man,
3
the greatest detective in the world. And I will admire him until the day I die.

Have you ever dreamed of traveling in space For many kids, staring at the stars leads to daydreams about
what it would be like to be an astronaut. Just think about how amazing it would be to set foot on the moon or
another planet!
Although it sounds like it would be great fun to travel to outer space, it would be a lot of work, too. Traveling
to outer space needs lots and lots of preparation.
Once you are in space, nothing can come on board and nothing can go out. You must take all you need into
outer space to keep yourself alive. Let's call these things" inputs", including food, water and oxygen. Every input
creates an output. If you open a box of cookies for breakfast, what will you do with the box when it's empty
Every piece of rubbish you create in space will remain on the ship with you. Your body will also output food and
water. Since nothing can leave the spaceship, you will have to think of another way to deal with these bodily
wastes.
Even breathing creates an output carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)! It's true that plants depend on carbon dioxide
in the same way humans depend on oxygen to breathe. However, plants have other input needs. If you take a
banana tree with you, you will need to bring enough water to keep it alive. You must also consider another type of
output rubbish in the ship after taking the fruit as snacks-the banana peel.
See how carefully you have to plan for a trip to outer space How can you plan your actions on earth to have
the least influence on the environment and your future Not only do you have to think about all the things you' ll
need, you will also have to consider the influence of those things because of the wastes they may create.

23. Which of the following is an"output" according to paragraph 3
A. Some cookies. B Food and water. C. Your oxygen mask. D. The empty cookie box.
24. What does the 4th paragraph mainly talk about

However you do it, planning a holiday is always tiring. In the past, people had to turn to travel companies to
organize their trips. But today, online travel platforms allow us to plan journeys by ourselves at home through
their artificial intelligence (AI). Expedia has Romie, its"AI-powered travel buddy", has TripGenie and
has introduced its own AI helper called Trip Planner.
One big attraction of these AI travel tools is that it can free people from tiring and repetitive work. For those
who find holiday booking stressful, personalized AI travel plans can be very convenient. For example, AI can help
design a romantic trip according to people's preferences, like"heart-shaped beds", according to Rob Francis,
's chief technologist.
But, these AI travel tools are still in the early stages and far from perfect. During a test, TripGenie
6
recommended a hotel near the airport in Paris as a romantic choice for a new couple, which was clearly not a good
choice. Besides, AI cannot fully understand everyone's different tastes. Not everyone shares the same idea of a
romantic trip.
AI travel helpers also have risks. They can give wrong information, as once happened to Air Canada.
Travellers were even tricked into booking expensive flights or giving money to advertisers.
However, big travel websites have a lot of data, such as hotel rooms and user reviews, so they still have
strong advantages with these AI tools. Their market values are even higher than last year.
