This page provides information and guidance about hands-only CPR and CPR with rescue breaths for children over one year old.
Hands-only CPR
To carry out a chest compression(胸外按压):
Place the heel of your hand on the breastbone at the centre of the person’s chest.
Place your other hand on top of your first hand and interlock your fingers.
Position yourself with your shoulders above your hands.
Using your body weight(not just your arms),press straight down by 5-6cm(2-2.5 inches) on their chest.
Keeping your hands on their chest, release the compression and allow the chest to return to its original position.
Repeat these compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 times per minute until an ambulance arrives or you become exhausted.
CPR with rescue breaths
For children over one year old:
Open the child’s airway by placing one hand on the child’s forehead and gently tilting their head back and lifting the chin.Remove any visible obstructions from the mouth and nose.
Pinch their nose.Seal your mouth over their mouth and blow steadily and firmly into their mouth, checking that their chest rises.Give five initial rescue breaths.
Place the heel of one hand on the centre of their chest and push down by 5cm(about two inches),which is approximately one-third of the chest diameter. The quality(depth)of chest compressions is very important.Use two hands if you can’t achieve a depth of 5cm using one hand.
After every 30 chest compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute, give two breaths.
Continue with cycles of 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths until they begin to recover or emergency help arrives.
21.What’s the first step of CPR with rescue breaths for children
A.To blow into their mouth.

22.What critical step do the two CPRs have in common
A.To call an ambulance for treatment.
B.To apply chest compressions properly.
C.To put oneself in a particular position.
D.To blow steadily and firmly into the mouth.
23.Where is this text probably taken from
A.A business report.

In a breathtaking incident in Berlin,a young man narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation where he became trapped beneath a bus.
The 16-year-old found himself unable to move beneath a tyre(轮胎) of the bus when he fell down during an attempt to catch the departing vehicle at a local stop on a Monday afternoon. The quick response of the bus driver, who immediately stopped the vehicle, coupled with the assistance of roughly 40 people, including both passengers and bystanders, led to a remarkable achievement.Together, they managed to lift the right side of the bus sufficiently to free the young man.
Frank Kurze, one of the courageous volunteers who participated in the rescue, recalled the messy scene, stating,“I saw the men trying to lift the bus,and it was clear to me that I also had to help lift the bus and try to pull the young man from underneath.”
Nearby medical professionals from a healthcare center in the Spandau neighborhood of Berlin instantly arrived at the scene to provide vital first aid.Michelle Rueckborn, one of the nurses on duty, shared their response, saying,“We were at work when we heard screams, and our coworker looked out of the window and saw what had happened, and said ‘Grab the doctor’s kit and run.’”
Sandra Grunwald, another nurse present at the scene, added,“He was responsive but understandably confused, unsure of what was unfolding around him.” Despite the frightening circumstances, the young man unbelievably survived with only minor injuries, thanks to the collective effort of around 40 individuals who came together to perform a heroic rescue.
The Berlin police department praised the collective efforts of those involved in the rescue as “heroes” and expressed their gratitude on social media, stating,“Thank you,Spandau.Thank you,Berlin.”

Hardly a day goes by without a company telling us in its beautifully crafted advertising how much it contributes to the environment on our behalf. In fact, they fail to make enough investment in renewable or alternative energy sources.Statistics are made up,and the tiniest ecological improvements are overstated in multi-million-dollar advertising campaigns, while in the meantime the greedy side of the business continues.
This is known as greenwashing, which means “making things that are not green look green”.As the public’s environmental awareness grew,so too did the experience of corporate public relations strategies, and advertisers found ever-more-creative ways to use a green curtain to hide dark motives.
When a company spends more time and money claiming to be “green” than actually adopting business practices that minimize environmental impact,it is clear that, for them, environmentalism is little more than a convenient slogan(口号).Their message is “buy our products and you will end global warming, improve air quality and save the oceans”.At best, such greenwashing pushes the fact to its limits;at worst,it helps conceal deception.
And what about today’s consumers?Few of them are truly well-equipped to make informed decisions about what is true.Greenwashing is only possible because consumers often believe what they are being told—why else would companies do it?More information and greater awareness are essential.Analyzing the tricks used by advertisers should be part of every school curriculum.Non-governmental organizations can spread the word.Consumer groups can punish the greenwashing companies. But it is not enough.Legally enforceable systems must be put in place.
So what is already being done about planned attempts to pull the wool over consumers’ eyes?In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission is taking action against misleading advertising claims.France has published Green Claims Guidance, stressing that “an advertisement must avoid conveying a message contrary to the accepted principles of sustainable development”.All of these surely are the heart of the matter:the true impact of advertising is the promotion of unsustainable lifestyles. And there lies the real danger to our planet,a danger which cannot be ignored any longer.
28.What can we learn about greenwashing
A.It is an ecological concept.
B.It is a marketing technique.
C.It is an awareness campaign.
D.It is an advertising innovation.

30.What can be inferred about most consumers
A.They are lacking in legal knowledge.
B.They have encouraged greenwashing.
C.They may question consumer groups.

31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Actions to fight false advertising.
B.Ways to protect customers’ interest.
C.Attempts to solve environmental problems.
D.Proposals to ensure sustainable development.

Most e-bikes have rechargeable lithium-ion(锂离子) batteries, the same that power smartphones and laptops. All these batteries have the potential to fail when damaged, overcharged or operated in extreme temperature conditions.E-bike batteries, though, are much bigger—between 50 to 100 times more—than the ones in our personal electronics, and pose a greater risk.
On May 20,a folding bike in a South London apartment began smoking, then within seconds a big fire erupted.According to Dom Ellis, deputy commissioner for the London Fire Brigade, the bike’s owner purchased it second-hand to commute(通勤) to work and bought an aftermarket battery from an unclear online marketplace.
Lithium-ion batteries are popular because they’re easily rechargeable. But if something fails, they can overheat, said Anna Stefanopoulou, professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan. This kicks off a bad cycle called thermal runaway. The melting battery materials fuel the flames, sending out more heat, and that heat also creates a flammable(易燃的) gas,she said.In other words, when a battery breaks down, the fire is self-sustaining(自我维持的) and hot.
Electric cars also contain lithium-ion batteries, but fires are less common compared with e-bikes.Cars have cooling systems and their batteries are more protected, she said.Any electric vehicle battery replacements would also likely take place through an authorized facility.
E-bikes,on the other hand, don’t have temperature regulators and their batteries are more exposed to the environment and possible impact,so minor manufacturing flaws(生产缺陷) can become problems,Stefanopoulou added. She said the cheaper batteries can suffer from flaws and low-quality control.
E-bike riders also tend to use their batteries more actively.A huge battery in an electric car can last more than 200 miles, and drivers top them off(加满) regularly.E-bike commuters are used to draining their batteries again and again throughout the week, which can add to the stress.
32.Why are e-bike batteries much more dangerous than the ones in personal electronics
A.They are much larger.
B.They are of different materials.
C.They are easily overcharged or damaged.
D.They are operated in extreme temperature conditions.
33.What was the main problem with the folding bike causing a fire on May 20
A.It was purchased from another user second-hand.
B.It was produced by an unqualified manufacturer.
C.It was already out of date when second-hand bought.
D.Its original battery was replaced with an aftermarket one.
34.Why are electric car fires less common compared with e-bikes
A.Electric cars seldom use lithium-ion batteries.
B.Electric car batteries are not exposed to heat or fires.
C.Electric cars are equipped with better lithium-ion batteries.
D.Electric cars are equipped with battery-protection systems.
35.What can be a suitable title for this text
A.How to Replace E-bike Batteries
B.Why E-bike Batteries Break Down
C.Why E-bike Battery Fires Are Common
D.How to Prevent Fires from E-bike Batteries

Not far ahead of them,a black truck was sliding from one lane(车道) to the other. To their horror,it crashed into the concrete barrier(混凝土护栏),jumped over the car directly ahead of them, and ended up hanging over the railing(栏杆) of the bridge.Bauer stopped his car in time to avoid other vehicles.
And then another scream appeared. It came from the truck, which had come to rest on its right side. The driver’s door was pushed open and a man climbed out.He dropped to the ground and then rushed to the railing.Bauer ran up beside him.The man pointed down, saying something in Spanish. In the water was a child car seat. There was a little girl next to it,about two years old.She was frightened, floating on her back, kicking and screaming.
From around the truck, more screams from others who had seen the accident came.Things quickly went worse when the girl rolled over.Bauer waited for the truck driver to do something, but he was in shock.Maybe he was quite fresh to the rescue.
Bauer was not sure about his chances of jumping from this height into such shallow water. And were there rocks that would cause cuts? But the truck driver didn’t move.Time ticking by,taking action was a must.“Ava,call the emergency group!” Bauer shouted, ready to remove his shoes.“And stay by the car!” Bauer added.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

M:It’s a baby bird on the ground.Poor thing. It looks so helpless.
W: It looks like its home was up there, but the wind must have destroyed it.What should we do
M:Well,I don’t see any parent birds.I guess we have to take it home.
W:Maybe we should stop by the pet store on the way home.We can buy some useful supplies.
M:That’s a good idea.It doesn’t seem to have any injuries so I think it will be okay if we take it home. When it gets older,we can bring it back here.
W: Sounds like a plan.Let’s get going before it gets too cold for the little one.
Text 9
M:Hi,professor.I was hoping I could have a moment of your time if you’re not too busy. I’m having some problems getting started on my paper and hoping you could give me some advice.
W:Sure. Can you remind me what your topic is
M:The general topic I chose is beauty, but that’s as far as I’ve got. I don’t really know where to go from there.
W:Yeah, that’s much too large a topic. You really need to narrow it down in order to make it more accessible.Otherwise, you’ll be writing a book.
M:Exactly. That’s what I wanted to ask you about.I was hoping it would be possible for me to change topics. I’m really more interested in nature than beauty.
W:I’m afraid you have to stick to the assigned topic.Still, since you’re interested in nature, then that certainly can be worked into your paper. We’ve talked about Hume before in class, right
M:Oh yeah,he’s the philosopher who wrote about where our ideas of beauty come from.
W:Exactly. I suggest you search for some information about him in the library and start from there.
M:Great. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, professor.
W:If there’s anything else you need, please come to see me in my office at any time.
Text 10
M:There are many different types of writing, such as essays, letters and speeches.Whatever your reason is and whatever your style is,there are some tips that will help you improve your writing. Firstly,be clear about your purpose. The most basic question to ask yourself before you start is why you are writing.Whatever you write, keep your purpose in mind at all times to avoid going off topic.Secondly, start with an outline.Far too often people write without an outline.Whatever you are writing, creating a clear outline is the first step to getting your messages across quickly and in the most effective way.Thirdly, write for readers, not for yourself.Your aim in writing is to communicate ideas and information to other people, and you must keep that in mind with every word and sentence you write.Constantly ask yourself who you really write the information for. Lastly, write for the ear,not for the eye.Once you’ve finished a draft of your writing, read it out loud. You’ll hear something that sounds awkward.

语篇解读 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了一些公司试图用环保宣传掩盖其黑暗动机的漂绿行为。
28.What can we learn about greenwashing
A.It is an ecological concept.
B.It is a marketing technique.
C.It is an awareness campaign.
D.It is an advertising innovation.
29.What does the underlined phrase “conceal deception” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Hide the truth.
B.Raise the risk.
C.Expose the weakness.
D.Break the limit.
答案 A
故选A。
30.What can be inferred about most consumers
A.They are lacking in legal knowledge.
B.They have encouraged greenwashing.
C.They may question consumer groups.
D.They tend to make sensible decisions.
答案 B
解析 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Greenwashing is only possible because consumers often believe what they are being told—why else would companies do it?”可知,消费者轻易相信广告公司的宣传是漂绿行为有效的原因,所以消费者实际上助长了公司的虚假环保的行为,所以B项 “他们助长了漂绿行为”正确。故选B。
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Actions to fight false advertising.
B.Ways to protect customers’ interest.
C.Attempts to solve environmental problems.
D.Proposals to ensure sustainable development.
答案 A

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a bright spring afternoon along the Maryland coast, and Jonathan Bauer,a doctor, and his 13-year-old daughter,Ava,were driving home with the windows down on the Route 90 bridge, which spanned(横跨) the shallow waters of Assawoman Bay.Suddenly, the calm was disturbed by the scream of tyres.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Then he climbed onto the railing.
The rescue team rushed towards Bauer to take the girl from his arms.
参考范文
Then he climbed onto the railing.Taking a deep breath,he let go of the railing and jumped. The cold water surrounded him,but he managed to steady himself and began swimming towards the girl.As he got closer,he could see her face more clearly. She was crying, but her eyes were wide open, looking at him in fear and hope.Bauer reached out and gently took hold of her. When they broke through the surface,Bauer could hear shouts and cheers from above.
The rescue team rushed towards Bauer to take the girl from his arms.Bauer looked down at the girl. She was still crying, but her grip on him had loosened. She looked at him with wide, grateful eyes.“It’s okay, sweetie,” Bauer said, trying to comfort her.“You’re safe now.” And as he looked into her eyes,he knew that this moment, this rescue, would stay with him forever. It was a reminder of the power of love and courage, and the importance of being there for each other in times of crisis.
