M: Hello everyone, and welcome to the school’s Weekly News Broadcast. I’m your host Li Ming. Today, we have a positive local story. Last Saturday, our city library started a new program called “The Book Buddy Shelf.” Here’s how it works. Anyone can buy an extra book when they shop and then donate it to this special shelf at the library. People who cannot afford to buy books, especially children, can then take these books home for free. No library card needed. The program was a huge success in its first week. The library manager, Ms. Chen said they received over 200 books. “We are very thankful for everyone’s kindness. We’ve got storybooks, science books and even some cookbooks. It’s wonderful to see the community sharing the joy of reading.” We interviewed a young girl named Xiao Mei at the library. She was holding a new picture book. She said with a big smile. “My mom said we can’t buy new books this month, but I found this one here. I’m so happy.” “The Book Buddy Shelf” is located near the library’s main entrance. The library hopes this program will continue to grow. They remind everyone that the books should be new or in very good condition. That’s the end of today’s news. Remember, a small act of kindness can make a big difference.

M: When was the last time you looked up and saw a clear sky full of stars If you live in a big city, the answer is probably: a long time ago. The reason for this is light pollution. Streetlights, billboards and even the lights in our houses block our view of the night sky and mask the stars. According to a study, 60% of Europeans and almost four-fifths of people in North America cannot see the Milky Way at night.
Bright lights don’t just make us miss a nice view. They also affect animals, confusing them when they migrate. For example, sea turtles, which navigate by the moon, often become disoriented due to artificial lights on beaches. Birds that migrate at night are also thrown off course by city lights, sometimes flying into buildings or changing their migration patterns altogether.
And this type of pollution is bad for human health by disrupting human sleep patterns. Luckily, there are solutions. First, cities can install streetlights that point downward instead of spreading light in all directions. Then, shops can turn off bright signs after midnight. Last, we could follow the Czech Republic’s example and introduce a law against light pollution. We may see the starry night sky once again if we take action now.
21. Why choose 22. by plane/air/aircraft 23. first have/take/make 24.on Sunday 25.about a month 26.a businessman 27.in a hurry 28.two years ag/2 years ago
【原文】
Actually, it’s a decision made by my father as a business man. He has been to many places, but he said that he had never seen big plains with horses and goats running on it. That’s why he chose inner Mongolia. Maybe this trip will be quite different, but our original intention is to experience life.
Nope. This time we are not in a hurry, so we decided to take a train. It will take us a long time to get there, but I think it will be quite amazing. You see, from Guangdong to inner Mongolia, that means we are going to travel from the south of China to the north of China. I will be able to see the scenery all the way.
No, we have family trips one or two years a time. The last time I went on a family trip was two years ago. It mainly depends on my father. You know he is always quite busy with his business. If he has time during summer or winter holidays, we will be able to go on a trip. I love family trips because my family members are all happy during the trips.
When would you like to watch the new movie
How long will Tom stay in Inner Mongolia
What does Tom’s father do
Why does Tom’s family decide to take a train
When was the last time Tom went on a family trip

How to Apply for Scholarships
Scholarships can help you afford the education you need to reach your goals. I’m here to help answer some of your most important scholarship questions.
First, where do I look for scholarships
Check with the colleges you’re considering. Scholarships are often listed in the financial aid section. You may also be able to find information on the school website or by contacting their financial aid office.
Second, when should I start applying for scholarships
Ideally, you should start researching scholarships during the summer just before your senior year of high school. However, it’s never too late — you can even apply for some scholarships after you’re already in college. Just check the deadline information to be sure.
Finally, what scholarships should I apply for
Focus on finding scholarships you are a good fit for. Then, expand your search to scholarships that you qualify for, but maybe aren’t as confident about. Remember — you don’t have to be a perfect candidate as long as you meet the basic requirements.
