M: If you are determined, you can do anything you want to do. Don’t let those thoughts hold you back.
2.B
【原文】M: Why are you lying on the floor, Jenny

M: That makes sense.
W: What about you I guess you won’t be going cycling tomorrow — haven’t you got a swimming class
M: No, it’s a basketball class. I started last month, and I’m going to try tennis soon.

M: Yes, it’s 1049.
W: Well, let me check our records. I’ve got down that you wanted 13 pizzas. Just…
M: Did you say 13 I ordered 30 not 13. No wonder we haven’t got enough.
W: I’m very sorry about that. So you’re missing 17 pizzas, aren’t you
M: That’s right.
W: How about sending you all 30 this time And they will all be hot.
M: That would be great. How to deal with the 13 ones we have here Shall we give them back

M: Oh, that’s great. I’ve been trying to save my vacation time for a big trip next month after this project is over.
W: Oh, that will be perfect for you then. Just make sure to submit your application for leave in advance.

M: I’m thinking about water pollution causes and solutions. Or maybe solar energy. Do we need pictures in our presentation
W: That’s up to you. Make sure your points are clear, and use examples to support your arguments. Start by explaining the problem, then show how to fix it.
M: My teammate Lisa is good at making charts and organizing information. I plan to focus on the causes and solutions for water pollution. Lisa is looking into clean energy, including water and wind power technologies.
W: Good teamwork. Remember to explain important words like “recycle” in your speech. Send me your outline when you finish.
M: We will. Thank you!

【原文】
I have been a keen bicycle rider for about nine years. I first started riding seriously when I was 14 years old, and like many beginners, I found the flat roads easy but the hills almost impossible. But I didn’t give up. After three years’ training, I made great progress and climbs became easier for me. Then I started enjoying climbs and seeking tougher routes. Now, a long flat ride can be both boring and tiring as you never experience that fantastic feeling of freedom when speeding downhill. Years ago, going uphill left me breathless. Now I have learned to take hills slowly. When I set off, I’m full of energy and the first hundred metres are amazing; the next couple of kilometres are a bit tiring; but on the whole, the experience is very enjoyable. Bicycling is like any other form of exercise I have tried as it is never a task but always a pleasure. The physical benefits are obvious but the mental benefits are equally important. When you are travelling calmly, you breathe fresh air, have time to think and can relax.

【原文】W: Welcome to our university. Here is some information that may be useful to you. The Student Welfare Office is normally open from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m., Monday to Friday. Today and tomorrow, it will be open from about 9 a.m. If you have any problems, the teachers and volunteers there will help you. We also give out university identity cards that you will need to join the library. And they will allow you to get discounts at a number of local shops and places of entertainment, such as clubs and cinemas. On Monday and Tuesday of next week, second-year students will be running a book sale in the library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Many of the books on your first-year reading list will be available, and we suggest you should look there first before spending too much money on new books. The university canteen opens from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., selling hot meals, fairly cheap. There is a basic cookery course starting next week. If you don’t know how to boil an egg, this is for you. It’s always full, so get your name on the list in the Welfare Office now.
