Hi, everyone! Let’s talk about something ancient or you might think boring—poem. I mean, why do we even need it A poem is actually like a superpower we all have.
First, poems express feelings.
Ever had a day when you’re SO happy, angry, or sad that you can’t even explain it Poems get that. Poems take emotions and turn them into something beautiful.
For example, imagine you’re having a math class, staring out the window at the rain. You could tell your friend, “Ugh, it’s raining.” Or you could write:
“Rain taps the window like a secret code. The sky’s grey blanket hugs the road.” See Suddenly, boring rain feels... magical.
Second, poems are secret codes for your brain.
Poems make you play with words like Legos. Some are short—just 3 lines—like sending a quick drawing to a friend. Here’s one:
“Pizza in the lunchroom. Cheese stretches like a high-five. Dirty spots on my shirt.”
Fun, right You’re painting pictures with words!
Third, poems connect us.
Ever feel like no one understands you A poem is like a “Hello!” from the past. Long ago, a kid in Japan wrote about feeling sad. Today, a teen in Paris writes about being nervous. You write about your terrible soccer game. And all these poems whisper: “You’re not alone.”
So why do we need poems
It turns your feelings into art. It’s a brain playground where rules don’t matter. It’s a time machine that links you to every human who may feel the same.
And it’s yours. You don’t need permission (允许) to write it.
Your homework Try this: Write one line about something tiny—your dog’s weird bark, the smell of hotdogs, the argument in the cafeteria. Make it yours. Because poetry isn’t about being “good”—it’s about being alive.

All through grade school, I got extra help with school work. If I got a D, I was very happy. If I got a C-minus (C-), I had achieved greatness. A’s and B’s were a kingdom I could never enter.
Once my teacher Miss Mills had given me a list of ten spelling words. My mother and I went over the list until I knew those words. I felt great. I thought. “Wow! This time, I’m going to pass.” The next day, I went into the classroom and began to write down the words. The first word was “carpet”. I wrote that one down c-a-r-p-e-t. I was feeling pretty confident. Then came the word “neighbor”—I wrote down the letter “n”. Then rhythm—I knew there was an “r”. Suburban——I wrote “s-u-b”. My confidence failed me. I had gone from 100 percent to maybe a D-minus. Where did the words go
Some people talk about information sliding off your brain. That was my life. I was an underachiever.
Now I know I have dyslexia (诵读困难症). A person with dyslexia might see “the” as “teh” and “bird” as “brid”. My brain learns differently. A learning disability can really change the way you feel about yourself. Now I know that even if I learn differently. I can still be filled with greatness.
Today when I visit schools as an actor, director, and co-author of children’s books, I tell children that everyone has something special inside. It’s our job to find out what that is and get it out, and give it to the world as a gift.

International Good Deeds (行为) Day was founded (创办) six years ago. “I founded this festival because I believe that everyone can do a good deed for someone else, each in his or her own way.” Shari Arison, the owner of Arison said. The festival calls for people to give back to others. In fact, as a student, you can also do your part to spread love for Good Deeds Day. Here are some ideas for you.
* You can go through your books and pick out the ones you don’t want any longer. Give these books to a free little library in your neighborhood. If you don’t have any nearby, organizing your own little library is a good family project. You will need a bookshelf, some books and posters to get started.
* You can organize a donation drive (募捐活动). Collecting gently used toys can brighten the life of a sick child. You can also collect household items for a homeless center.
* It’s also a great way to visit the elderly in nursing homes. You can bring homemade cards or baked food to the elderly and spend happy hours with them. If you like music, you can play music or sing for them.

Tipping tips When you take a trip around the world, you pay money for food, transportation and hotels. But in some countries, you’ll need money to tip people who help you. How much should you give
North America
In the USA and Canada, failing to tip is extremely rude. Waiters and waitresses often earn low wages, so they tips. Give them at least 15 percent of the cost of your meal before tax. If the service is really good, tip 20 percent. It’s common to give porters in hotels $1 or $2 for each bag they carry. You should also tip hotel housekeepers, tour guides and taxi drivers.
Africa
In most African countries, tip waiters 10 percent of the bill. But in South Africa, give them 15 percent. In hotels, the concierge (看门人) may services such as booking show tickets. For these services, give the concierge a tip in advance. And don’t forget to tip porters and taxi drivers.
Europe
Tipping customs in Europe are different from country to country. In France, waiters receive tips because the cost of service is included in the bill. Many English restaurants also include a service charge. In Germany, there is no service charge, so a 10 to 15 percent tip is proper. Make sure you tip in cash, though, so the money gets to your waiter.
Asia
In Southeast Asia, tips are not usually given. But people may appreciate them if you choose to give them.
Tipping are not the same in different parts of the world. Restaurant and hotel staff work hard to make your trip more enjoyable, and you would like to thank them for this. Please remember to choose the way that fits their culture.

The popularity of walking 10,000 steps a day means that many of us have believed the message: walking is beneficial for overall health.
This low-impact activity, requiring no special equipment beyond a pair of sports shoes, improves heart health, lung capacity and weight management. It helps prevent several age-related diseases, including type 2 diabetes.
In 2023, the British Journal of Sports Medicine published the results of a data analysis of ten different studies that investigated the impact of walking speed on the risk of type 2 diabetes. This study had a survey of over 500,000 people in the US, Japan, and the UK. It showed that both “fairly brisk walking” and “striding walking” were linked with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, independent of the time spent walking.
As time did not show up as a significant factor, the researchers suggest that encouraging people to walk at faster speeds could enhance the health benefits of walking, beyond simply increasing total walking time or hitting a specific step count. See the relationships between walking speed and the reduction of type 2 diabetes risk:
Average pace 3-5 km/h: 15 percent reduction in risk
Fairly brisk pace 5-6.5 km/h: 24 percent reduction in risk
Just below jogging pace 6.5 km/h: 39 percent reduction in risk
The time spent walking was not a decisive factor. Instead, each increase in speed of one kilometre per hour is related to a nine percent reduction in risk. Speeds over 4 km/h were connected with a lower risk of the disease.
41.The study shows ________ is good for preventing type 2 diabetes.
A.running B.jogging C.swimming D.walking
42.People from the following countries took part in the 2023 survey EXCEPT ________.

A.You’d better do the exercise using specialized equipment

C.You’d better take more steps when doing the exercise
D.You’d better do the exercise at a faster speed

Time to Rewrite “Hiss-tory”
— The Art of Animation: Gary’s Story
Movies are a great form of art. They use stories to help us face our fears. But for me, one fear is hard to forget. How do you feel when you think of snakes Their long, thin bodies and glassy eyes often make people panic. I still remember a trip to the zoo. Behind the glass, I saw a white, red-eyed snake trying to catch a mouse for lunch. It was so scary that I ran out.
Because of this, I was nervous about the movie Zootopia 2. This film features Gary, the first snake in Zootopia. In the trailer (预告片), as soon as Gary appears, the audience quickly runs away in fear. He is known as a “bad guy” around the city. This sequel (续集) shows Gary’s journey to set things right, which means he wants to prove that not all snakes are bad.
Why do people have such a strong dislike for snakes For centuries, snakes have been described as frightening creatures in many stories. Most people consider them dangerous and cold-blooded. But is this always the fact Sometimes, traditional stories can easily hide the truth. We should treat every animal in a fair way, because each one has a different side that we may not know.
Scientists say our fear may be inborn—we are born with it. Interestingly, my daughters love watching movies about snakes. They are excited for Zootopia 2. Through the art of film, they might understand my fear. At the same time, I am trying to reconsider how I see these animals. Can Gary change our hearts

Have you ever bought something and felt happy right away There’s a reason for that! Here’s why shopping can be fun and how to do it wisely.
Many people talk about shopping therapy. It means shopping can make you feel better. When you buy something nice, your brain makes chemicals that help you feel happy. That’s why buying a little can cheer you up when you’re having a bad day.
Buying something new can give you quick happiness. Whether it’s a new coat, a coffee or a phone, spending money can make you feel good for a short time. But the feeling doesn’t last long. It’s important to shop carefully.
Sometimes we shop because of our feelings, not because we really need something. This is called emotional shopping. Maybe you buy things when you feel sad, bored or stressed. When you notice this, you can try to stop and think first before buying.
It’s nice to treat yourself to something small, which can be a good way to make yourself happy. Just remember not to spend too much or buy things you don’t really need.
Have you ever bought something and then felt bad later This is called buyer’s regret. It happens when people buy too much or choose things they don’t truly want. Thinking before you buy can help you avoid this feeling.
Shopping can bring a bit of happiness, but it’s important to think about what you buy. A small gift for yourself can be fun, but shopping too often or spending too much won’t make you happy for long. The best way is balance—have fun shopping, but shop smart!
67.What does “shopping therapy” mean in the text
A.A medical treatment you get at shops. B.Shopping to help you feel better.
C.A special type of shopping discount. D.Shopping for health products.
68.According to the text, why does shopping make us feel happy
A.Because it helps us forget bad feelings for a while.
B.Because we can reward ourselves after hard work.
C.Because our brain makes “feel-good” chemicals.
D.Because spending money shows our success.
69.What is “emotional shopping”
A.Shopping for gifts for people you love.
B.Shopping for special occasions only.
