How can I become a better person This question has been in my head for long. As students, we spend most of our time studying. I know learning at school, of course, makes us better persons, but I always dream of doing more.
Last year, I got to know a group of autistic (患自闭症的) children. We called them “the Snails (蜗牛)”. It was hard to communicate with them at first, because they wouldn’t like to. After a two-week training, I became more skilled. I got closer to them day by day. To my surprise, I found that every one of “the Snails” had his or her own talent. And their colorful pictures on the wall attracted my special attention, though it was difficult to tell what they were trying to express.
Moved by their pictures, I decided to hold a charity (慈善) sale. We walked on the busy street, selling their creative pictures. We sold 60 pictures that day. People thought their pictures were full of imagination.
Back to the question about how to become a better person, I think I am lucky enough to get my own answer.
1.What do students spend most of their time doing
2.Why was it hard to communicate with autistic children at first
3.Do “the Snails” have their own talents
4.How many pictures did they sell that day
5.What is the writer’s answer to the question “how to become a better person”
Dear Aunt Lisa,
I’m writing to say thanks to you. Last weekend, I visited your garden and had a wonderful time with you. I want to share my story with you.
A week before the visit, I got mad at my deskmate because of a small mistake. I felt unhappy and argued with him from time to time. I even thought we could never be friends again. When I told you about this, you didn’t blame me. Instead, you encouraged me to calm down and talk with my deskmate sincerely. Even though I was afraid of making things worse, I followed your advice. To my surprise, my deskmate forgave me, and we became good friends again.
On that weekend, you took me to enjoy the beautiful flowers in your garden. The roses, sunflowers and lilies made me feel relaxed. You told me that life is full of small problems, and we should face them with a kind heart.
Thanks to your kindness and advice, I learned how to deal with problems and care for friendship. I will never forget this special day.
Yours sincerely,
Lucy

Chinese students have two long holidays (summer holiday and winter holiday) in a year. But besides relaxing, there is one common question: Should teachers give homework during the holiday
Some students want a homework-free holiday, while others believe a little homework can help them keep learning. We asked some middle school students and an education expert to share their ideas.
What Students Say:
Zhou Ming, 14: I hope there is no homework during the holiday! We work hard at school. The holiday should be for relaxing and doing fun things. We can exercise, read storybooks, or spend time with family. Then we will be more energetic when school starts again.
Li Xiaoyu, 15: I think a little homework is okay, but not too much. If we don’t review (复习) our lessons at all, we might forget a lot. It will be hard to catch up later, especially in subjects like Math and English——they need regular practice.
Chen Siyuan, 13: I agree with Xiaoyu. Teachers can give interesting tasks, like reading a book and sharing our thoughts, or doing a small project (项目) about holiday traditions (传统). This way, we can keep learning without feeling bored.
Dr Qiao’s Opinion:
A school break is a good chance for students to learn by themselves and experience life. Whether to give homework isn’t simply yes or no- it depends on the type and purpose of the tasks. If homework is just repetitive (重复的) exercises, students may lose interest and learn nothing useful. But if it encourages reading, thinking or hands-on activities, it can help students keep learning while relaxing. Meaningful tasks can also help them develop different skills. The real question is: Does the homework help students grow, or just fill their holiday time
11.What does Zhou Ming think the holiday should be for
12.Which two subjects does Li Xiaoyu say especially need regular practice
13.How can teachers make homework more interesting, according to Chen Siyuan
14.What does Dr Qiao believe is the most important question about holiday homework
15.Do you want homework during a holiday What kind of homework do you think is the best

It is necessary for children to help their parents with housework. But most parents may find it difficult to get their children to help with it, because children usually enjoy playing games instead of doing housework. However, I have some good ways to get my children to do housework. Here is an example.
"Mum, what's next week's housework Let Kitty and me choose the cards. I can't wait. It's interesting!"
When my son, 7-year-old Tommy shouted, I began to put all the cards on the sofa. On the cards, I wrote some words like these, "wash the car, take out the rubbish, make the bed, do the dishes, clean the living room, sweep the floor, wash the clothes, take the dog for walks, water the flowers" and so on.
Kitty and Tommy chose two cards for each day from Monday to Friday. Then they wrote them down on their notebooks. Tommy likes to take the dog for walks best while Kitty enjoys cleaning the living room. Soon the two kids had fun taking away all the cards. And I didn't need to worry about the housework again. Of course, on weekends, I usually do the housework myself and set the children free.
39.What do children enjoy doing according to the writer
40.How old is Tommy
41.Where did the writer write the housework information
42.What does Kitty enjoy doing
43.When does the writer usually do the housework herself

Floods, droughts, storms, hot days… extreme (极端的) weather is becoming more and more common all over the world. This is caused by greenhouse gas emissions (温室气体排放) from human activities, reported China Daily.
In the summer of 2024, big storms hit areas of Europe. At least 13 people died in Austria, France and Italy by Aug. 19. In Portugal and Spain, huge wildfires forced thousands of people to leave their homes. In the US, more than 80 percent of the west was in drought, causing three-quarters of farmers in these areas to stop growing food.
In China, the heat hit the south starting from June 2024. The duration (持续时间) of 2024’s high temperatures broke the 62-day record in 2013, becoming the longest heat wave in 61 years. If you visited Chongqing in the summer of 2024, you may have seen a very “dark” city: no more neon lights (霓虹灯) in the streets with only a few lights on in shopping malls. The highest temperature there reached 45℃! People there had no choice but to turn on the air conditioner the whole day, which was a big burden for the power system.
Extreme weather has also made 218 of the known 375 diseases more serious. You may have heard the word “thermoplegia (热射病)” in 2024. It is the most serious type of sunstroke (中暑). Many cases of death were reported to be caused by it that summer. If people stay in high temperatures for too long, the heat will damage their organs (器官) and make people feel sick, even die.

45.What made Chongqing a “dark” city according to the passage
46.What is thermoplegia

Reading is not just about finishing a book. It can also be a wonderful activity to share with others. Here are some reasons why reading with others is great.
Enjoy quiet moments together
Reading with a friend or family member doesn’t always mean talking. Sometimes, sitting together and reading quietly can help both of you relax. It is a simple way to enjoy each other’s company without any pressure. You can read side by side in a comfortable place, like a sofa or under a tree. Just being together while reading can make the experience more enjoyable.
Learn from each other
When you read the same book as someone else, you can share your thoughts about it. You might notice different things in the story. One person may like the main character, while the other may enjoy the setting. Talking about these differences helps you see the story from another point of view. It also helps you understand your friend better.
Build a habit together
If you find it hard to read regularly, having a reading partner can help. When you know someone is reading the same book, you will feel more motivated to keep going. You can set goals together, such as reading a few chapters each week. This shared goal makes reading a habit that is easier to keep.
Feel more connected
Books often talk about feelings and experiences that are common to everyone. When you read about a character who faces a challenge, you might think about your own life. Sharing these thoughts with someone else can make you feel less lonely. It builds a deeper connection between you and your reading partner.每道题的回答不超过8个词。

When we communicate with people from other cultures, small body language can carry big meanings. Smiling is always friendly in every culture. But some gestures are different. Thumbs-up means “good” in China, but it is rude in some Middle Eastern countries.
Eye contact is also different. In Western countries, looking into others’ eyes shows honesty. But in many Asian countries, avoiding eye contact shows respect for elders.
Nodding the head means “yes” in most countries. However, in some parts of Greece, it means “no”.
Before using body language in foreign countries, we’d better learn its local meaning. Wrong gestures may cause misunderstanding.
58.What does smiling mean in almost all cultures
59.What does thumbs-up mean in China
60.What does eye contact show in Western countries
61.What does nodding the head mean in Greece
62.Why should we learn body language before going abroad

When I’m in trouble, I always take out a book and read quietly. I put my heart into it so that I can forget all the unhappy things. I’ve developed a habit of reading in this way.
When I was a little boy, I was interested in comic books and storybooks. When I was a middle school student, I began to read novels, plays, essays (散文) and so on. I found I could get much from them. Little by little, I took a great interest in literature and last term I won first prize in the composition (写作) contest among high school students in our city.
Reading The Emperor’s New Clothes makes me laugh a lot about the emperor’s silly behaviour. The Little Match Girl makes me feel sad. And I am also deeply moved by Helen Keller’s spirit of being strong and never giving up. Besides these, books also tell me other things—how to be a brave man and how to tell the difference between right and wrong. In a word, good books can let me know what I didn’t know before. So I think good books are just like my best friends.

This constant mist (水雾) nurtures (滋养) a unique rainforest ecosystem around the falls, supporting rich plant and animal life.
In 1989, Victoria Falls was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (世界遗产遗址). Scottish explorer David Livingstone named it after Queen Victoria in 1855.
