In August, 2022, Chongqing had a very hard time. The city suffered record-breaking heat, with the highest temperature above 40℃ for weeks. Because of the hot and dry weather, large forest fires swept through many parts of the city.
Firefighters worked hard to put out the fires, but they were not the only heroes. In Beibei District, a large number of motorcyclists (摩托车手) played an important role in fire control.
Li Xin is the owner of a motorcycle club in Beibei District. He organized a team of 15 club members as volunteers. They transported supplies for the firefighters in Xiema Town, the centre of the local fires. “It is my honour and duty to guard my hometown,” he said.
The team members took turns using nine motorcycles to carry food, water and whatever firefighters needed. They also helped transport firefighters to certain places.
There were hundreds of motorcyclists like Li. Most of them were in their twenties. They rode on the poor mountain roads and carried a large basket full of supplies on their back. Some fell and got hurt even though they had the best motorcycle skills. Some got heatstroke (中暑) after working long hours. They didn’t have much time for sleep, but they were in high spirits at all times.
Besides riding on the difficult roads, these motorcyclists also helped cut wood and put out fires. They stayed and helped till the fires were finally put out. Without them the fires couldn’t be put out so quickly.
1.What problem did the 2022 summer heat cause in Chongqing
2.What did Li Xin and his team do to help with fire control
3.What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about
4.What advantages (优势) did motorcyclists have in controlling the forest fires in Chongqing
5.What can we learn from the young motorcyclists

Natural dangerous events can happen anywhere and at any time. Earthquakes, floods, storms, and wildfires are just a few examples of nature’s powerful forces. While you can’t stop these events, you can learn how to protect yourself and others.
The first step is to know the latest news. You can listen to weather reports and important warnings on the radio or your phone. Many countries have warning systems for earthquakes, typhoons, and floods. If you hear a warning, take it seriously and act quickly.
Next, make a safety plan with your family. Decide where to meet if you get separated. Prepare an emergency bag with water, food, a torch, a medical box and important papers. Practice what to do during different kinds of dangerous events, like “Drop, Cover, and Hold on” during an earthquake.
During a dangerous event, stay calm. If you are indoors, stay away from windows and heavy furniture. If you are outside, move to an open area away from trees, buildings, and electric lines. After the event, avoid damaged areas and listen to adults or police for instructions.
Being prepared can save lives. We should respect nature’s power and learn to live safely with it.

“Yes,” said Indian Joe. “But five years ago, you sent me away from your father’s kitchen when I came for something to eat. Your father had me jailed as a homeless person. I said I’d get my revenge. And now I’ve got you, and you’ll have to pay!”

Then, the old man tied many chopsticks together into a bundle (束,捆). “Now, break this!” he said. The oldest son tried, but the bundle didn’t break. The second and third sons also tried, but the chopsticks stayed strong.

Virtual Forest: Protecting Trees Online
Have you ever thought about protecting trees without leaving your home Now you can do it through the Virtual Forest project. This project was set up by a group of environmentalists in 2022. Its purpose is to encourage people to protect real forests by planting virtual trees online.
How does the Virtual Forest work It’s very simple. You can register an account on the project’s website. Then you can complete various online tasks, such as answering environmental questions, watching educational videos and sharing environmental knowledge with friends. For each task you finish, you will get “green points”. When you have enough green points, you can “plant” a virtual tree on the website.
Here’s the most interesting part: for every virtual tree planted, the project will plant a real tree in a forest in western China. These forests are facing the problem of desertification, and the new trees can help stop the desert from expanding. So far, about 100,000 virtual trees have been planted, and as a result, 100,000 real trees have been planted in the forests.
The Virtual Forest project has become very popular among young people. Many students and office workers spend their free time completing tasks and planting virtual trees. They feel proud that they can contribute to environmental protection even when they are busy. The project also has a social function. You can invite your friends to join the project and plant trees together. You can compete with each other to see who plants more trees, which makes the project more fun.
In the future, the project plans to expand to other countries. It hopes to encourage people around the world to protect forests and make the earth greener.
30.What can you get by finishing tasks
31.If 300 virtual trees are planted, how many real trees will be planted in the forest

A popular saying goes, “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure.” There certainly is some truth in it. Rather than using paint, ink or other traditional materials, many artists are turning to discarded (废弃的) materials for creating their artwork.
It’s a well-known fact that artists have been using discarded resources for a long time. One of the reasons for this is that traditional art resources such as paint, clay and metal can be extremely expensive. Another reason is that some artists want to bring attention to the fact that people throw away a lot of perfectly useful items.
Artists may seem avant-garde (前卫的) by using garbage as the material for their artwork. For example, most people wouldn’t think that a plastic bag would have an artistic purpose. However, some artists have shown photos of breathtaking landscapes and ocean surfaces created using only plastic bags. And something called “auto-destructive art” is another example. The idea began to exist during the 1960s. This means that an object doesn’t start out as art. It becomes beautiful as it breaks or becomes old and worn. If you have seen broken glass, you can understand this idea better.
Some artists just want to create something that will make people think about important problems. One popular theme in art is the importance of reducing environmental waste. A few years ago, a large work of art called World of Litter received international attention. The artist, Peter Singer, created a huge globe that floated on water. It was bigger than some of the local boats! Singer created it by collecting hundreds of bottles and other forms of plastic waste.
The discarded materials make beautiful artwork. Besides, they provide hope for the future by bringing about environmental awareness.
33.What are many artists turning to for creating artwork rather than using paint, ink or other traditional materials
34.When did the idea “auto-destructive art” begin to exist
35.How did Peter Singer create his artwork called World of Litter

Do interesting activities. When you feel sad, you can try to do some fun things to make you forget the bad emotion and feel better. You can play sports, watch a funny movie or read some jokes. It’s also helpful to go for a walk or ride a bike with your friends in the park.
Have a cry. You may cry when you’re upset. In fact, sometimes crying is a useful way to help you get over the bad emotion. After crying, you’ll feel better to move on.

Have you ever heard of Saihanba, a very big forest that lies in Chengde, Hebei In Mongolian (蒙古语) , its name means “beautiful highlands”. Just as the name means, across the area were endless forests, grasslands and clear lakes.
