Project Active Winter Camp 2026 —The Most Fun English Camp for Teens in Europe
※All English levels welcome ※ε590 per head
Beat the winter blues with a week of English, energy, and unforgettable memories! Set in
the heart of Goirle, just a short walk from the town centre, our modern youth centre is fully
equipped to keep the fun going — rain or shine. With a huge indoor sports hall and warm,
welcoming atmosphere, every day is packed with laughter, teamwork, and real English immersion (沉浸).
This Carnival holiday, campers learn English naturally through sports, games, and
multimedia projects led by our native-speaking staff. Using iPads, drones (无人机), and cameras, students bring their creativity to life while practising English in real-world situations.
Even when it’s cold outside, our indoor and outdoor spaces are filled with activities — from football and dance sessions to creative video projects and team challenges. Hikes to Rotterdam,
swimming trips, and movie nights make every day different and exciting.
Campers stay in comfortable shared rooms, with meals taken together (a staff member at every table) and breaks watched all day. It’s a safe, social, and 100% English-speaking
environment designed to build confidence, independence, and new friendships.
Spots fill quickly every year — book early and give your child an active, inspiring English holiday they’ll never forget!

I’m Kay. I was the kind of child who couldn’t just accept that something worked. I would take apart everyday stuff, not to destroy it, but to understand why it worked the way it did. This desire to question, reimagine, and improve became the foundation of everything I’ve done since.
That same curiosity followed me into academia. During my PhD journey, I desired to
strengthen medication adherence (遵循) among people living with serious infectious diseases (传染病) in developing countries. However, the challenge was contextual, cultural, psychological, and systemic. Contrary to the traditional approach of trying to fix the patient to improve
adherence, I turned my attention to the communications that the patients were having with their healthcare providers.
That idea led me to motivational interviewing (MI), a person-centred technique based on
open dialogue, understanding, and cooperation to drive behavioral change. On the surface, it
seemed promising. But I quickly realized it wasn’t a plug-and-play solution. As I was working in a developing country with entirely different cultural dynamics, it became clear that ideas like
personal choices and open emotional expression didn’t quite translate in the same way. Thus, I had to adapt the approach to fit the context and employ the adapted version to train doctors.
Essentially, I spent time understanding the local values, how people communicate, what trust looks like, and how authority was understood. I reworked the method — not to water it
down, but to make it fit. The results were powerful. Patients became more involved, more
confident, and surprisingly, the trained doctors started employing the approach in other clinical contexts such as patients with diabetes (糖尿病) and high blood pressure.
This was a defining moment. It showed me that true innovation isn’t just about invention — it’s about translation, adaptation, and understanding. It’s about meeting people where they are and helping them get to where they need to be.
24 .What can we learn about Kay from the first paragraph
A .She was fond of working. B .She enjoyed finding problems.
C .She had an inquiring mind. D .She longed to be a doctor.
25 .Why does the author mention “a plug-and-play solution” in Paragraph 3
A .To show the method was easy to use. B .To suggest cultural differences mattered.
C .To stress the need for doctor training. D .To explain why she adapted the method.
26 .What was Kay’s contribution to MI
A .She reinvented its core. B .She promoted its broader uses.
C .She simplified its rules. D .She proved MI failed in some cultures.
27 .What does Kay’s experience show
A .One size doesn’t fit all. B .Actions speak louder than words.
C .Practice makes perfect. D .Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

The world is a noisy place, filled with various sounds that often make it hard to focus. With support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Mounya Elhilali is helping us listen more
effectively — not just to conversations but also to the important sounds used to diagnose (诊断)
disease and the signs that help people with hearing challenges move safely in their surroundings.
Elhilali is leading efforts to make stethoscopes (听诊器) intelligent, improve speech recognition in noisy environments, and push the limits of how technology can improve our ability to understand what we hear.
In 2022, Elhilali, together with her colleagues, developed a smart digital stethoscope.
“Traditional stethoscopes, while widely used, are often unreliable due to noise, the need for expert interpretation, and subjective variability,” she says. “Our research introduces new, advanced
listening technology that combines artificial intelligence (AI) with new sensing materials to make diagnoses more reliable.”
This advanced stethoscope uses a special material that can be adjusted to reduce or block
out some background noises, making lung sounds clearer. It also uses AI, including models of the airways and neural networks, to study breathing sounds. Elhilali and her team trained their
algorithm (算法) on over 1,500 patients across Asia and Africa.
This technology is currently being used in clinical studies in Bangladesh, Malawi, South Africa, and Guatemala, as well as in the pediatric emergency room at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. A version of the device, now called Feelix, has received FDA approval and is being
marketed by the Baltimore spinoff Sonavi Labs.
“This technology is already making a difference. It is being used in rural clinics, mobile
health units, and large hospitals to assist emergency responders and health care providers around the world in providing time-saving, cost-effective pulmonary assessments (肺部评估), especially in areas with limited access to imaging tools like X-rays and ultrasounds,” Elhilali said.
28 .What is the main focus of Mounya Elhilali’s research
A .To help deaf people hear better. B .To reduce the influence of noise in life.
C .To make medical tools more advanced. D .To use AI for better medical listening.
29 .How does the new stethoscope achieve better performance
A .It makes lung sounds louder. B .It depends on AI to replace doctors.
C .It combines noise control with AI. D .It blocks lung sounds to improve clarity.
30 .What does Elhilali’s statement in the last paragraph suggest
A .It aids care in areas with poor resources. B .It is affordable for places with tight budgets.
C .It reduces the steps for diagnosis. D .It performs the same role as imaging tools.
31 .Which is the most suitable title for the text
A .The Future of Stethoscopes. B .A Smart Stethoscope for Better Diagnosis.
C .The Invention of Stethoscopes. D .A Smart Stethoscope Saves Many Lives.
D
Dogs have been a part of human society for over 20,000 years. Whereas they first served
people by supporting hunters, it did not take long before they became part of the home.
Companion dogs might not help secure food, but for years evidence has mounted that they help
diminish anxiety and improve sociality. Research led by Kikusui Takefumi at Azabu University,
published recently in iScience, explains what might be going on. It reveals that the microbes (微生物)found in the guts (肠道)of dog owners are apparently different from those who do not own
dogs and that this is, at least partially, responsible for the behavioral differences.
The brain does not exist on its own. The microbes found elsewhere, particularly in the gut, produce chemical compounds (化合物)that influence how the brain works. With this in mind, Dr Kikusui wondered if microbe transfer from dogs might be helping bring psychological benefits to owners. Keen to find out, he set up an experiment with 343 participants in Tokyo, focusing
specifically on teenagers, as adolescence is a crucial period of brain development when social interactions often have lasting mental effects. He and his colleagues therefore psychologically analysed 96 teens who were dog owners and 247 teens who were not. As expected, dog owners suffered from fewer social problems.
The next step would have been to introduce dog-associated microbes directly into the
bodies of non-dog-owning teenagers. Since that is an ethically grey area, Dr Kikusui worked
instead with mice. After six weeks, mice carrying microbes from dog-owning teens spent longer approaching unfamiliar mice and showed greater concern for troubled cage-mates.
Dr Kikusui admits that making direct comparisons between mice and humans is far from perfect, but his findings nonetheless indicate that the microbiotic changes brought about by dog ownership influence the brain. If the conclusions hold, it seems that the path to a healthier mind
may begin not with careful self-reflection, but with the companionship of dogs.
32 .What does the underlined word “diminish” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A .Overcome. B .Replace. C .Balance. D .Reduce.
33 .What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A .The differences between teenage dog owners and non-owners.
B .The design and participant selection of the experiment.
C .The biological basis and motivation for the research.
D .The role of gut microbes in shaping brain activity.
34 .Why did the researchers conduct experiments on mice
A .Dog owners show fewer social problems.
B .Teenagers were more difficult to study directly.
C .Human experiments may raise ethical concerns.
D .Mice can behave more actively in group interaction.
35 .What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A .Mouse-human comparisons may have limits in brain research.
B .Spending time with dogs may contribute to mental well-being.
C .Developing a healthy mind depends on careful self-reflection.
D .Psychological health requires changes in biological systems.
Natural disasters can happen at any time, and schools are no exception. Here are some steps for students to take to survive when a natural disaster hits schools.
Prepare an emergency kit. Every student should have a personal emergency kit. 36 Keeping this kit at hand can ensure students are always prepared.
Practice regular drills. Regular disaster drills (演习) are just as important as fire drills. They help students learn what to do in real emergency situations. Schools should conduct such drills
regularly to ensure that students know what to do when a real disaster occurs. 37
Recognize safe areas. 38 When a disaster hits, students should quickly head to the
nearest safe area that can provide the best protection. Examples include hallways, under desks, or designated shelter areas. These areas should be decided in advance within the school.
39 Different areas may face different types of natural disasters. For example,
coastal areas are more likely to experience hurricanes, and landslides are a main danger in
mountainous areas. So schools should teach students knowledge about the specific type of disaster in their local area.
Take action in different situations. Students should stay calm and take immediate action
based on different situations. For example, during a tornado, they should move to the lowest floor of the building and take cover under stable furniture. ____40____ Earthquakes require us to drop to the ground, take cover under a table, and hold on until the shake stops.
A .Understand the risk types.
B .Teach local disaster preparations.
C .A single drill is enough for students to learn perfectly.
D .This will help students react quickly and minimize the risk.
E .Knowing where safe zones are in the school can be a lifesaver.
F .In the event of a flood, students should move to higher grounds.
G .It should include necessary items like batteries and first-aid kit, etc.

Bob’s grandma, Alice, lived with him and his parents in the biggest community in their city. The community had more than 30 apartment buildings, with crisscrossing roads and
similar-looking houses. If you didn’t live there for long, it was really hard to find a specific
building. Luckily, Alice had moved there three years before, so she was quite familiar with the environment and could walk around freely.
One noon, Bob found his grandma busy cleaning the house. She was sweeping the floor
carefully, even though the floor was already spotless. Bob felt a little strange, because he clearly remembered that his grandma had cleaned every corner of the house that morning before he went to school. He walked over and said, “Grandma, you cleaned the house this morning. You don’t
need to do it again.” Alice stopped for a moment, looked at Bob in confusion, and then said slowly, “Did I I forgot it completely.”
Bob’s heart sank. He had heard from his teacher that forgetting things easily might be a
sign of dementia (痴呆). He didn’t dare to think too much, but he paid more attention to his
grandma after that. The next day, Bob told his parents about his worry. They were so anxious that they decided to take Alice to the hospital at once. After a careful examination, the doctor
confirmed Bob’s guess — Alice really had dementia. The doctor also warned them that staying at home all the time would make her condition worse.
In order to help Alice get better, the family made a plan: Alice would go for a walk in the community every afternoon. At first, Bob or his parents would accompany her, but soon Alice
insisted on going alone, saying she knew the community well. To their relief, Alice could always come back on time within half an hour. However, this just lasted for two weeks.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 左右;

根据第一段中的“Companion dogs might not help secure food, but for years evidence has mounted that they help diminish anxiety and improve sociality.(伴侣犬可能无法帮助获取食物,但多年来,越来越多的证据表明它们有助于 diminish 焦虑并提高社交能力)”可知,句中 but体现转折关系,前文说伴侣犬不能获取食物,后文应说明其积极作用,diminish anxiety 与 improve sociality 并列,均为积极影响,结合选项可推测 diminish 意为“减少” ,与Reduce 意思相近。故选 D 项。
The brain does not exist on its own. The microbes found
elsewhere, particularly in the gut, produce chemical compounds (化合物) that influence how the brain works. With this in mind, Dr Kikusui wondered if microbe transfer from dogs might be
helping bring psychological benefits to owners. Keen to find out, he set up an experiment with 343 participants in Tokyo, focusing specifically on teenagers, as adolescence is a crucial period of
brain development when social interactions often have lasting mental effects.(大脑并不是独立存在的。
The next step would have been to introduce dog-associated microbes directly into the bodies of non-dog-owning teenagers. Since that is an ethically grey
Dr Kikusui admits that making direct comparisons between mice and humans is far from perfect, but his findings nonetheless indicate that the microbiotic
changes brought about by dog ownership influence the brain. If the conclusions hold, it seems that the path to a healthier mind may begin not with careful self-reflection, but with the companionship of dogs.(菊水博士承认,直接比较老鼠和人类并不完美,但他的研究结果仍然表明,养狗带来的微生物变化会影响大脑。

和下文“When a disaster hits,
students should quickly head to the nearest safe area that can provide the best protection.(灾害发生时,学生应迅速前往最近的、能提供最佳保护的安全区域。)” E“Knowing where safe zones are in the
school can be a lifesaver.(知晓校园内的安全区域位置能挽救生命。)”
Different areas may face different types of natural disasters. For example, coastal areas are more likely to experience hurricanes, and landslides are a main
danger in mountainous areas. So schools should teach students knowledge about the specific type
of disaster in their local area.(不同地区可能面临不同类型的自然灾害。 A“Understand the risk types.(了解灾害风险类型。)” 故选 A。
40 .根据上文“Students should stay calm and take immediate action based on different situations. For example, during a tornado, they should move to the lowest floor of the building and take cover under stable furniture.(学生应保持冷静,根据不同情况立即采取行动。例如,在龙卷风期间,他们应该搬到建筑物的最低楼层,躲在稳定的家具下)”和下文“Earthquakes require us to drop to the ground, take cover under a table, and hold on until the shake stops.(地震时要趴在地上,躲在桌子下,坚持到震动停止。)” F“In the event of a flood, students should move to higher grounds.(发生洪水时,学生应前往高地)”与龙卷风、地震的举 例格式完全一致,衔接自然,符合题意。故选 F。

67 .例文
One afternoon, an hour passed, but Alice still didn’t return. Bob and his parents were in a panic. They searched every road and corner of the community, calling Alice’s name loudly. The
sun was setting, and their worries grew deeper. Just as they were about to call the police, a
neighbor called, saying he had seen an old lady sitting quietly by the community gate, looking
confused. They rushed over and found Alice, who was holding a crumpled leaf and murmuring, “I can’t find my home.” Tears filled Bob’s eyes as he hugged his grandma tightly.
Bob decided to create a special map for his grandma. He drew it carefully with colorful
markers, marking their apartment building with a big red heart. He also drew simple pictures of
familiar places, like the small garden where she liked to sit and the bakery that sold her favorite
bread. Next to each picture, he wrote big clear words. When he gave it to Alice, he held her hand and said softly, “Grandma, with this map, you’ll never get lost again.” Alice smiled and held the
map close to her chest, as ifit were a precious treasure.
